Silver Beach is a warm, friendly resort with a fantastic beach. From the cheerful and warm reception by Salim when we landed, to the young waiters who are always around to get what you need, the service is wonderful. The resort is well located, right on the beach. We had a garden room, that was spacious and clean - However the fixtures are dated and could do with some refurbishment. The Garden itself is well maintained, breezy and cools the surroundings nicely

While we did have a decent variety in the buffet lunch, dinner and the set dinner menu's, breakfast tended to be the same fare every morning that became monotonous. Taste quality was good and could do with spicier options for guests who would like something different

The bar (and the barmen) were outstanding. Always willing to accommodate a request. There were a few reviews that mentioned that the cocktails were light on alcohol. Not only we did not have that problem, but a request for a 'double' was obliged with a smile

Overall a very good holiday, great beach and value for money

We had a great 2 week stay, from our arrival through to check out the staff couldn't do enough to help you. The rooms were cleaned and towels changed every day, Reyaz does some brilliant origami with the towels, it was a shame we had to use them, but knew tomorrow would be something different !. In the bar we had great service from Salem, Ravi and their colleagues, not forgetting Egory the waiter who never failed to deliver either the wine or the rum punches, even managed to convince him that rum does taste good in hot chocolate. As for getting about on the island, from Reggie who took us to the hospital in Flac, and certainly made things run smoothly there, to Mamood who took us round the island. Use the Silver Beach taxi guys, they don't charge a fortune and know the best places to go, and we used them rather than booking through the tour operators. If there was one minor niggle, it was the dress code, with our booking paperwork and on arrival we were advised that the dress code for the evening, gents in smart casual shirt, smart trousers and closed shoes, ladies to wear smart/casual clothing, which we did and not to wear swimwear, shorts t shirts and flip flops . However a number of guests thought it was appropriate to wear t shirts, jeans, flip flops, which was a pity the Maître de wasn't able to do anything about. But on the plus side we went paragliding, swam with Dolphins, visited the Rummery and many other interesting places. We would certainly go back there again. One thing we did notice there was a lady there with a motorised scooter, not the ideal place to go if you have poor mobility.

Room Tip: We should have had a garden room, which looked excellent and slightly larger, but as this wasn't...

Another Day in Paradise

Warm friendly welcome on arrival. We were escorted to our room to discover our ‘bungalow’ was a first floor room. I have difficulty with stairs. There was no problem changing rooms to a ground floor. Maybe I should have checked before, but whenever I’ve read accommodation is a bungalow, it was a bungalow, a ground floor dwelling.

There were steps down to the dining area and beach. I was able to manage but do check suitability if mobility is a concern. There are beach front ground floor rooms with level access to dining area.

We had read there were problems obtaining sun beds and parasols. We brought our own parasol and a beach cover. We need not have worried. We found sun beds and parasols available even late morning. Staff were observant and brought out more parasols when the need arose. We were never ushered off our beds at 5 pm, some evenings we didn’t move until well after 6 pm.

We enjoyed a wonderful relaxing holiday and enjoyed delicious food. Staff were always friendly and helpful.

I did notice several children/teenagers. Other than beach, sea activities – windsurfing, pedaloes (free), and a swimming pool, the only other activity available is a snooker table. Highchairs were available in the restaurant. There is not a separate children’s pool.

We enjoyed snorkelling and discovered an abundance of colourful fish. The best area is definitely at least 50 metres left of the beach hut (towel hut). Sea shoes are a good idea. It’s uncomfortable along the waterline but does get better. I soon had my feet up or fins on.

We considered hiring a car. A taxi appeared to be a better option, so we could relax and there was not a lot of difference in price. Hotel taxis can be found across the road from the hotel. We met Mann (drives the Red taxi). We discussed the places we wanted to visit and go our own pace, then negotiated our price. We enjoyed an excellent day in the Black River Gorge, visiting a Tamil temple on the way, the Volcano, Sacred Lake, Coloured Earth, Waterfalls and even saw wild Capuchin monkeys then along the West coast. Lunch time we asked to stop to eat a typical Mauritius meal. We were never rushed and discovered and saw so much more with the wealth of information Mann gave us.

Flacq Market. We waited for the bus outside the hotel for less than 10 minutes. It took half hour and cost 25 rupees each to the bus station opposite the market. Best prices we had seen for t-shirts and dresses and bags. Returning to the bus station we were on a bus within minutes. I was annoyed with myself as I had forgotten to visit the craft market.

There are not many hotels we return to but we will certainly return here.

Room Tip: If you need a ground floor room request when booking. Sea front, ground floor, if you want to be on...

This hotel is not really meant for children but I went with my 3 daughters - 9 and 14 yr old twins and we had a fab time. We don't want kids club anymore nor special children's food . Lovely buffets most meals with evening buffet 3 times per week and set meals the other 4. Often Mauritian curries or more adult style food though they did also serve toasted sandwiches/burgers/chips in the afternoon so the youngest child could supplement with this. The staff were very friendly and Rishi (restaurant) was a delight with his endless jokes and tricks for my 9 year old. We had a garden room and yes it was old fashioned but I don't like places mega sparkly. We booked last minute through Expedia and were pleased with everything. We emailed the hotel for an airport transfer and a friendly taxi driver met us in his new minibus. We were only there 5 days and parked ourselves on the loungers for most of the time , enjoying the close proximity to the beach with free use of the free pedalos and free snorkelling. No real problems getting loungers and guys very helpful to provide extra umbrellas if all taken. Our trip to swim with the dolphins on the west coast was very successful - hour and a half drive to west coach beach, speed boat out to many dolphins and swimming with them. Our guide was very good. The set up at Siver Beach Hotel is best for older couples but also good for families with older children who don't want to be classed as children any more but who are prepared to behave as adults! Cannot comment on surrounding delights as was too glued to lounger! No fitness centre or children activities - just sun, sea and food. Perfect.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor garden room and it was very quiet. Wifi poor though. Though that was a bonus a...

The hotel is very close to the sea front . We had a beach facing room and was able to see the sea all the time .
The sea was not very rough and we were able to have a very enjoyable bath .
The Sun was bright all the time and we enjoyed the sand and the Beach . The beach and the Sun bathing front were kept very neat and tidy.
Services were excellent
It was a disappointment that the hotel has no Gym facilities and no services such as Massage etc.

Silver Beach is a fabulous gem of a Hotel. It boasts a location on one of the best of Mauritius’ lovely beaches. There is very little that could be improved, and it doesn’t get a higher star rating only due to its size and facilities.

It will not be for everyone, those with small children up to teenager will struggle to keep them entertained.

Whilst there is entertainment on every evening, it mainly consists of piano and a singer 8 until 10. Perfect, if a quiet time is what you want.

The food is excellent. Breakfast is a buffet, but a chef is on hand to prepare omelettes, freshly poached eggs, etc.
Lunch is also a buffet, however a chef is always on hand with a freshly cooked dish or two.

The snack menu is only available between 1430 and 1630 and is limited to a delicious handmade burger or cheese and ham toasties. I have to say I would prefer this be available for a longer period so it could perhaps replace a meal, and maybe a little more imagination for the menu. Also this has to be taken inside the restaurant area rather than eating outside.

Dinner is a Buffet 3 nights a week and a set menu restaurant service for 4 nights. This has a choice of 2 main courses, and the service would put some Michelin star places to shame. The food itself is very good and errs on the side of bland, but they will fall over themselves to satisfy any taste if you just ask.

One thing to be aware of, the brochure clearly states Men must wear long trousers, so tailored shorts are NOT allowed. This is strictly enforced with guests not being served unless they conform. That said full length tracksuit bottoms would suffice.

The rooms are cleaned every day. You will have clean sheets and towels daily. We had a Seaview room, and one or two reviews suggest these are small, and I can’t imagine how that can be the case. The bathroom is perfectly adequate but there is no bath.

The electric points are British so no adaptor required but if you have several chargers etc I would recommend take a 4 gang extension in your suitcase. The hairdryer provided is fine. Each room has a fridge stocked with bottled water and 2 soft drinks.

The hotel is on a number of levels and there is no lift, but they will attempt to help anyone who struggles by careful choice of room location. Just email them before you travel. One slight improvement would be to provide more contrast definition on the steps to assist those with sight problems.

If I had a criticism it would be that there is just a single bar, and the drinks are quite limited. All cocktails essentially have 2 tastes either an orange fruity or lime mix. The house wines are palatable and the draught beer is perfectly adequate.

The beautiful beach is private to the hotel, and all sunbeds have a comfortable padded cushion. There is free access to a Pedalo, one or 2 man kayaks and windsurfer for the experienced. The snorkelling is excellent, and the best is 100yds walk to the left. We counted over 25 different species in one session. Beach towels are provided and can be changed daily if required.

The UV index at this time of the year is extreme so don’t be caught out, we are experienced sun worshippers and it was easy to get a little burnt by using our normal level sunscreen. I would therefore recommend that everyone goes up a level so you don’t suffer. We saw a lot of red peeling mistakes!! There is a constant strong breeze to counter act the high humidity but this does give you a false sense of security.

The local town is some 16 minutes walk way and there isn’t a lot to it, just a few restaurants and cheap T-Shirt shops. Fine varied dining is not available!! as most seem to have the same basic menu.

Money is Mauritius Rupees and roughly 50 to the pound, the hotel will exchange and there are a couple of bureaus in the town offering a slightly higher rate. There is an ATM in Trou D’eau Douce

You can hire a car for about £30 for a single day and fuel is roughly the same price as UK. A taxi will cost about £60 for 8 hours and the driver will stay with you all the time. There are various interesting tourist attractions around the island but none of the towns or villages could be described as pretty, poverty is an issue.

All in all Silver Beach Hotel is perfect for couples who like quiet and intimate hotels.
