Villa Vanilla

This hotel has 6 double rooms and one apartment with 2 dorms. The hotel was built 5 years ago as a private villa, but was transformed to hotel one year ago. It is really beautyful, the pool is nice, the view is excellent. The breakfast was also good - fresh juices, eggs, bread, a lot of fruits, ham, salami etc. - at some days we were the only guests, as the management has changed a few weeks ago. For dinner we had to go out, as there is no dinner available at this hotel - that was the only bad thing during our stay, but they promised to offer dinner in future again.

Room Tip: take a upper double room, as the apartment has no air co.

Villa Vanilla is a small and stylish hotel, with views of the Seychelles sea, mountains, and forests. Actually, the hotel is surrounded by beautiful trees and it is enjoyable to be in the spacious balconies amidst so much green. The downside is that Villa Vanilla is located high on the hills close to Port Glaud in a very steep road. Having a rental car is highly advisable, unless you are very keen on walking. A rental car is a good idea in Mahe anyway to visit the many sensational beaches the island has.

The rooms are well-appointed, with spacious bathrooms, and large balconies. The pool is good but deep - parents should keep supervise their kids in the pool. There is no shallow pool for children.

The staff is very responsive to requests and gave useful hints on where to go and what to do. The breakfasr and buffet diner are excellent. The chef does a great job in balancing local and international dishes, all of them delicious.

I highly recommend Villa Vanilla (and a rental car to get there).

Villa Vanilla is a small and charming hotel nestled in the green hills that border the island's national park. An 800-meter, very steep road (great cardio!) takes you down to the shore, from where you can walk to a beach on either side within maximum 15-20 mins. It is great to hear birdsong all around you, no matter what time of the day. Each of the rooms has a large balcony from which you can admire the jungle hills around you and do bird watching while sipping a cold beer.

The staff here are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the surroundings and island attractions. Margaret does a great job managing the whole show, and the chef, Damien churns out one wonderful dish after another, day-in day-out. In fact, my wife and I both felt the food was probably THE highlight of this hotel. Whether it is Creole dishes such as octopus curry, or classics like pork ribs (his signature dish), you won't be disappointed!

The only disappointing thing was the frequent problems with running water, especially the shower. They always seem to have pump failure or some other glitch that prevents water from running at good pressure, or sometimes running at all. I hope they fix this issue soon, because it is a shame considering how pleasant the hotel is otherwise. Oh, and don't forget to bring a book because there does not seem to be any satellite TV hook-up.

Overall it was a pleasant stay and if they fix their water problem it might just be a perfect 5/5!

This is an incredibly charming place; huge rooms with enormous terraces overlooking mountains, lush tropical greenery and clouds floating by, decent-sized pool, very friendly staff, great chef catering simple but delicious food. It is very quiet. VERY QUIET - so make sure this is what you're looking for :) + rent a car - going to the beach by foot will take at least 40 min one way, but with your own car you can explore the island.

Room Tip: Second floor is better

My husband and I are pleased we booked in Villa Vanilla. The service was very personalized. Margaret is such a gem and had been very helpful. The chef was excellent with his creations during dinner as we booked a half board.
