“A rather poor BBQ”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

On our recent visit to the Seychelles we had lunch at the Kempinski (June 10). Following an advertisement in the local newspaper we made a booking. We were the only guests.
The salad buffet had a rather poor selection and was quite tasteless. The BBQ selection was not that much better and we were disappointed. No deserts at all and all that at a rather stiff price.
The only positive side to report was the BBQ chef who was friendly and did the best he could with the little he had.
The location of the restaurant overlooking the pool and towards the sea is quite nice but we won't be back.

Dear Boonlom,

Thank you for your comment which certainly refers to your visit dated back in June and clearly described the past situation. Please allow me to extend my apologies for any inconvenience you may have endured.

We are pleased to announce that during the month of September, we have conducted substantial enhancement works upgrading the entire BBQ area, transforming the Pool Bar in purely BBQ Restaurant, whose new layout is facilitating the food preparation and its service.

We trust that you will give us the opportunity to welcome you back to The Kempinski Seychelles Resort.

Warmest Regards,

Jean-Marc Michel

We have travelled extensively and on this ocassion we were looking for a relaxing enviroment but with plenty going on if we wished to take advantage of it. We could not have found a better location and every aspect of the hotel was to a very high standard. The hotel is run extremely efficiently but in such a manor as to appear to happen automatically. The star attraction of this hotel is the STAFF. We have never come across such happy helpful people who are really interested in ensuring you enjoy yourself and will do anything they can to make this happen. To more than one member of the staff we said " you are always smiling and looking happy" and the reply was " if you are happy then so are we" the difference being they meant it. Go there and try it, you will not be disappointed.

Where to start....

Myself and my fiance arrived at the hotel on the 14th November and departed on the 18th November. During these days we got married on the perfectly graded beach and crystal clear ocean of the Kempinski resort, fully organised by the hotel, and i cannot express enough in words just how fantastic our experience was.

We stayed in a beachside villa, little more expensive than the normal hillside apartment, but it is well worth the additional money as we were literally 25meters from the ocean and beach rather than up to a 15 minute walk through the resort. The rooms were big and the qaulity very comfortable. Lovely bathrooms and always extremely clean everyday. Beds were great, loads of free movies available and plenty of water and fruit complimentary.

The ameneties and services of the hotel were also impecciable and many many activities are planned per day to keep the guest entertained, if you wish to participate. From tours of the island to turtle feeding to snorkelling.
Food is awesome and i would highly recommend the set menus in L'Indocine restaurant. The butter chicken is top notch and the local pumpkin soup great!

Then our wedding was held on the beach on the 16th and from start to finish, every detail, was handled by the dedicated team with the utmost professionalism. This day was perfect and memories which we will cherish for a lifetime. and yes of course that would be the case when you get married. But i say again, the level of detail and care that the staff expressed was absolutely brilliant! Just Brilliant!!

The greatest asset of the Kempinski is the people. It is clear from the beginning, my 1st experience and contact to the last point of departure, that the level of service is impeciable. I have now lived in Dubai since 8 years and customer service is big over here, however it is very easy for this service to feel like it is faked to just please a customer. If they upset or have a bad day in Dubai, no problem as there is hundreds of other customers lining up at the door to pay the money again. So 1 lost customer is not a big deal. plenty more to capture.

Kempinski however in Seychelles is the complete opposite. Their customers are the most important thing for them and you feel that instantly. I would highly recommend the resort to anyone, already have and would continue to do so. I would also happily go back next year without hesitation.

So, all in all, stop searching around for the best deal or best resort. Its right in front of you..book up, and enjoy!!

By the way, check out Anse Major beach in the north (you an hire a car pretty cheap and good fun). We took a 1 hour walk to get there over cliff edges and jungle but wow..... amazing - google it !!!

Enjoy people !!
Ross

Room Tip: Upgrade your Hillside room to a Beachside room... its worth every penny!!!

To start with I should point out the good thinks I found with this Hotel.
The property and location is very nice even stunning. The staff are very friendly.

My real problem with the Hotel was prices charged at the resort. I cannot say it was expensive. I have to say it was extortion. We had Breakfast included and the rest was pay as you go. The food quality was average. The place is obviously geared to make high profits. We did very little and consumed as little as possible. The place is secluded and if you want to eat of the property it would be a trek. The bill at check out was a shock! If you have to go to the Seychelles please check into the costs apart from just accommodations.

We stayed from Oct 26 till Nov 2. and it was our first time on the Seychelles.
Baie Lazare is a very nice tranquil cove imbedded in a superb mountainous vegetation with nature-based kept style of beach, bearing of course the charm of lots of corals and sea urchins. Hence “classical” running from shore into water, at least during low tide is not really recommended.
The whole resort is very much built to preserve the natural character of the island. Thanks also to the gardener team.
Exception however is the concrete alley towards the reception which is certainly not an architectural masterpiece and the lights around the trees remind me the x-mas decoration we will soon encounter again in our regions. Indirect lighting would certainly give a more luxury touch to the venue than this redlight district illumination.
Difficult to say which of the room courts are nicer, those close to the beach with obviously sea view or those where we stayed and close to the small lake with a lovely view into the wooded mountain slopes, appearing especially mysteriously in the dark when sitting at the terrace, having a last drink and finishing a good cigar after returning from dinner.
Kempinski got also a lovely recreation team capable to spread sooooo much security especially when you are out fishing in a small kayak…”lot of plankton today Sir, good for sharks”….you might hear from one of them and then you look into the nasty smile on his face. Really good guys in that team, offering lots of leisure activities with on top obviously great possibilities to explore the waters of the Baie Lazare; thanks Pepe (however you slightly have to improve your Tennis - it’s not too late mate).
Staff very friendly and helpful even if not always the fastest and not all complying with the expected 5-star standards. But maybe this is also due to our European-style of looking at things even being in holidays and maybe we should also consider that a 5 star resort is not comparable to a 5 star hotel in a city; nevertheless…….
Breakfast buffet as well as quality and variety of dishes in general in the various restaurants very nice. Compliments to the new “patissier” and many thanks to your “Bavarian” Daniel who preserved all his extremely positive attitude we already had the chance to experience in Munichs 4 Jahreszeiten. A really good asset to the company.
Prices in Restaurant and bars as expected when considering the category of resort and the location, i.e. an island. By the way I don’t know where the gentleman in one of the comments on tripadvisor had to spend USD 80 for 2 Gin&Tonic’s. I found the same with best quality Gin from the menu for half the price…think he might got screwed when he exchanged his bucks into SCR somewhere on the island.
The small shop however is far too expensive, (e.g. you have to pay almost double the price for a Vilebrequin short as normally); reckon they are probably unfairly exploiting their monopoly position. Bad of course for the guests missing at arrival their luggage for a while as there is not much to be found outside the resort.
As a general comment, a very nice place with a couple of small “retouches” as you say in French in order to raise the services to an even higher level.
For sure a place to go back…..but don’t be in a hurry, which is true by the way for the whole island.

The hotel claim itself be a paradise, and actually, it is.... located in a nice bay, where nothing but the hotel is and the surrounding is very natural and untouched. If you listen to the sound of waves and animals outside rather than loud music and enjoy the fact that if you want, just few metres from your hotel you can find yourself in a jungle, then you're at the right place.
The hotel has everything you want a 5* star Kempinski to have - beautiful and comfortable rooms, great breakfast, cleanliness and very nice and welcoming staff!
Extraordinary makes it the choice of sport activities on site. You can borrow water sports equipment (kayaks, snorkeling sets etc.) for free! Also there are plenty of guided activities both free of charge or for few euros, which are gonna take you see another places than the hotel beach. Thus I want to thank the recreation team Pepe, Ricky, Phil, Kenny and others for being professional, entertaining and making it my best resort holidays!:)
Shorty before our stay, we've read a lot of complaints about the food and the prices there. So we went to eat outside (there are 2 restaurants in the wide neighbourhood) and realised, that the price level stays the same, whether you choose a restaurant with few plastic chairs on a beach (40 eur for two meals) or one of those in Kempinski. The fine-dining restaurant of the hotel, L'Indochine, offers f.e. a delicious 3-course menu for 30 euros. I don't have to comment the difference in service and food experience, do I? We experienced that the prices, which all of you comment and which is very high, is a matter of whole Seychelles and not of this particular hotel.
I'd come back to the relaxed atmosphere immediately...
With these words we also wanna greet Gaetano, the resindence manager, whom you see running around and making sure the guest's stay is all perfect! :)
