“Kempinski Seychelles Resort”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

If a 6-star grading exists for accommodation establishments in the Seychelles, that would be my rating for this superb resort. From the friendly and efficient attention of staff on check-in to the luxurious room amenities, wide ranging facilities and ample activities, this resort has it all.

Located on the exclusive south end of Mahé Island, directly on the famous Baie Lazare Beach, the Kempinski Seychelles Resort is close to the airport and 40 minutes from the capital Victoria.

Dining

Excellent cuisine is served at four unique venues; including the signature L'Indochine restaurant, inspired by the cuisine of the Indian Ocean rim, the casual Windsong poolside bar, which offers an eclectic selection of carefully crafted cocktails and snacks, and Café Lazare − the resort’s buffet-style dining venue where breakfasts and themed dinners are a gastronomic delight. The Planter’s Bar and Lounge is located just off the lobby area, where a delectable selection of snacks and a special medley of cocktails can be enjoyed.

Rooms

I stayed in room 420, on the second floor - a short walk from the main lobby of the hotel. Every room has a balcony overlooking the lawns leading onto the beach and a view of the Indian Ocean. Little touches in the room, like personalized messages on the rooms plasma TV screen, daily letters from management and newspaper snippets in the language of your choice, a complimentary bottle of wine and fruit tray on arrival and a fully stocked bar fridge, which you only pay to have restocked, are all part of the service.

Room amenities include his and hers bathrobes and slippers, monogrammed suit bag and shoe shine implements in the dressing room cupboards and the widest range of bathroom amenities that I’ve ever come across.

Activities

In true resort style, the hotel caters for families with a supervised Kids Club. The club is open 7 days a week from 9:00 to 18:00 hours and children from 4-12 years old are cared for free of charge. A daily activities roster keeps guests active, while sport equipment from the Watersports Pavillion kiosk on the beach can be used at any time of the day. The Tidal Lounge has an extensive library for both books and DVD’s. It also serves as the games room, where guests can practice their skills on the piano or at the snooker table. An ultra-modern gym located adjacent to the pool caters for cardiovascular and power training sessions, while the athletically inclined can train at two tennis courts.

Business Facilities

Meetings and events are catered for through three indoor venues, of which the Salon Quincy is one of the largest in the Seychelles, catering for 200 theatre style seats.

Special Occasions

Weddings and honeymoons are specialised events that the resort caters to and I can think of few venues that are better staffed and equipped to cater for these memorable moments of a lifetime.

And then there's The Spa ....

Spa and Wellness

The luxury spa and wellness centre, set against a majestic hillside backdrop, has six private treatment rooms with a twin treatment room for honeymooners or special treatments.

Up to now, I've considered people who enoy being massaged to have masochistic tendencies, but after a full body 'Classic' massage at the powerful hands of masseur Bryan, I'm a convertee!

Little Known Facts About Seychelles − Did you know that:

We stay at this hotel for 10 Days, the Rooms are comfortable and big, the Resort is very beautiful the beach is one of the best in the island to snorkeling, from the reception you get the goggles to swim, you see a lot of fishes with a lot of different colors. The swimming pool is also great to relax.
We took the option with Breakfast and Dinner inclusive and this was the best option the food is very good and every day is different even when they have the same theme, you will get always something different to eat. The food in the hotel is not more expensive than outside, we found it even cheaper them most of the places we saw. The service is good and the employees are very attentions
If you go to Seychelles, this is the place to stay at Mahe island.

The only thing we found negative was the internet access that was very slow around 250Kb/s

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel just before Easter this year. It was our silver wedding anniversary and we took our two children with us as well.

The service was exceptional – all of the staff were both welcoming and gave every appearance of enjoying working at the resort. The beach was immaculate, which meant there was no danger of sand flies and the whole resort was sprayed once a week to eliminate the risk of mosquitoes. The rooms were large and spacious and well cleaned every day. My husband and children are keen divers and the main reason we chose the hotel was that they had a dive centre in the resort. Again the staff were magnificent and made all of the dives an enjoyable experience, great sea life, good safe diving protocol. My husband and the children also enjoyed playing tennis at night – but extremely hot!

The food and wine at the hotel was highly priced, the breakfasts were so substantial they lasted us through to our evening meal however and the rooms all had state of the art coffee and tea making facilities. If you do not want to search out other local restaurants then I would advise taking the full meal package, or half board, before you leave. The hotel did not allow me to change to this on arrival.

We hired a car for two days and enjoyed both the freedom to explore the island (confirming our location at the hotel was one of the best) and stocked up on nibbles and beer and wine from the local shops for our early evening drinks. The hotel sent us a wonderful cake and a bottle of sparking wine for our anniversary with a lovely card. There is a local restaurant that is walking distance from the hotel – head for the dive school, follow the track beyond and then turn right up the hill. It is only a short walk, but the hill is steep and it was 29C at night with equal humidity. We really enjoyed both eating at the hotel and at some of the nearby restaurants for variety and to save on the cost with 4 of us needing to be fed (and kids also enjoy a glass of wine and a beer or two).

We would all highly recommend this hotel; we have some wonderful memories and photographs to remind us of this perfect holiday.

Doesn't feel like you are in a five star property. Staff is not well versed with the property and it's services.
The food options are highly limited. Just two restaurants, that too with limited menu and weird timings, imagine a five star hotel that doesn't serve pizza. It has only a one page in room dining menu. Rooms are terribly small. The beach has too many corals. We found spiders, ants and lizards in our room.

However the hotel is over all clean and the staff staff is very friendly. If you are looking for a five star experience this is not the place to be.

We stayed here one night on our way back to Europe from another Island Resort. On the heels of that exceptional hotel the Kempinski has a lot to learn. We should have been picked up from the airport by hotel drivers but they didn't know where our flight had landed.

Once they found us we were on our way and at the hotel around 5:00 pm. As we pulled into the portico there was no bellman or staff to greet us or help with the bags. We stood at the bell mans desk for five minutes until a man shuffled over in flipflops and asked us if we were checking in!?! Seriously? The hotel driver picked us up, they should know that along with our names and greet us. He then put our bags on a cart and took us over to some couches to sit and wait for someone from reception to come over. So we waited and waited for about forty minutes. Another family with a small baby were left in the same predicament. Totally unacceptable! It is the evening and checkout occurs usually much earlier so why the delay in checking in???

Finally my husband went over to the desk and got someone from guest services to call someone to reception. By this point we were tired, hungry and wanting to get settled so that we could make our flight the next morning. We were driven to the end of the sort and shown two rooms on tow separate levels, not ideal for a family......

Then off to dinner. This is a large complex, not sure how many rooms total but big. It feels a bit US motel - ish from the outside architecture no personal touch, one of a crowd going thru. The first restaurant was a buffet type thing so we carried on to the other ala carte restaurant. The first staff member who saw of browsing the menu was a rather aggressively helpful European. We were than seated by a local lad who really wanted to put us outside but we wanted to eat inside. The food was okay but nothing special to warrant the prices which are completely out of wack for the quality of food and service! At one point I had to pour our water as he had disappeared to fawn over some local client.

Or rooms were nice, relatively clean with the exception being that my daughters room smelled of damp, ( being on the ground floor?). And had a dehumidifier running when we walked in. As we had no face cloths in our bathroom I had to steal one from my daughter's room to wash may face. The bed was comfortable and the coffee machine in room is nice but is placed very inconveniently on the desk where one has to also dry ones hair. Awkward. The rooms and decor are nice, but smallish if you are going to stay more than a night or two. Also the pool area looked pretty small for the number of rooms and guests so I can imagine it is pretty crowded.

Overall I would not want to come back here as it feels as though it is catering to the masses......

Room Tip: Try and get an upstairs room as I feel the ground floor rooms suffer from damp.....

We spent 9 nights with my family (husband + 3 year old son + my best friend) at the Kempinski Seychelles Resort in February, 2014. We have seen many hotels around the world, and now this hotel became one of our favourite!
SURROUNDINGS:
The Hotel is situated in a very nice bay, between granite stones and tropical garden around.
ROOMS:
We booked a deluxe garden view room, and we were really satisfied with it. It was spacious, clean, and had beautiful view to the granite stones, and tropical vegetation. We loved it!
FOOD:
Can not understand the guest who did not like the food here, because it was amazing! We are from Europe, do not like indian cousine, were a little bit scared about what to eat, but these worries just gone at the first evening. We were on half board, and the food was very-very good every night! Once we got in touch with the chef, who is from Indonesia, and worked for many great hotels, before, and all we can say, is, we congratulate to him, he really did a good job! Food is extremely good in this hotel, believe me! The half board is great, but if someone would like to eat sg else, he could choose nice dinner from a'la carte, also. So once again, our advice to the management: work on to keep this Chef at Kempinski, he worths his money!
KIDS CLUB:
The ladies in the Kids Club did a very good job, also. My son loved Sheila, and the others, they really took care for the kids.
BEACH:
Probably this is the weakest point of the hotel. The ocean is full os seaweed and coral here, so it is impossible to swim a good, in the ocean. It should be worked on it, the seaweed should be rarefy. But from our point, we are the travelers, who just like to see the ocean/sea, smell it, sit near to it, and then swim in the pool....:-) but the seaweed makes the ocean like a lake, not a beautiful sight.

All in all I can recommend this hotel to everyone, who would like to have some relaxation between beautiful surroundings, and who would like to eat georgeous food! Congrats to the management!

Room Tip: I think garden view rooms are better, try to choose one near to the Reception.
