My husband and I chose sunset beach hotel for the last part of our honeymoon, looking forward to some beachy relaxation after a safari in Africa. We had a great stay! The hotel is smaller than most of the fancy resorts you'll find on Mahe, but it makes it more intimate and quiet. It has character, unlike the bland-looking many-floored block hotels we saw at the other resorts. Staff is friendly, it is tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable. Our room had a wonderful little terrace looking out on the ocean, the beach is beautiful (amazing view of the sunset!) and the pool/bar very nice too. The breakfast buffet was very good and varied, just make sure you get there not too late if you want the full range of options because some dishes are not replenished once empty. Location is very scenic, on a rocky outcrop overlooking the ocean, but detail people might want to know before booking: the hotel is a little isolated and out of the way, with basically nothing within walking distance (you don't want to walk along the roads in seychelles anyway, no sidewalks, super dangerous!) so you'll definitely need a car rental.

Really enjoyed our 5 night stay at sunset beach hotel... The location was spectacular and it has the small resort feel. Not too busy and you can get to know the staff, who were all really friendly. If I go back to the Seychelles (which i'd love to) I will stay there again.

My partner and I holidayed in Mahe Island, Seychelles in May 2014. We both agreed it was the most beautiful island we have ever visited (in the world)...and we have seen lots of beautiful islands and beaches.

We absolutely loved the Sunset Beach Hotel. We loved the fact that it was quant (small - I think only 12 bungalows?) and the service was friendly and interpersonal. The staff were all willing to do anything to make our holiday special and memorable as well as get to know us during our visit. My boyfriend was serenaded on his birthday as well as provided with a free desert with candles :)

Sunset Beach Hotel is located a short bus ride (20 min walk) from Beau Vallon - a great little town/beach. We were very happy with the location of the Sunset Beach Hotel. Sunset has its own little cove/beach which is just delightful to wake up to. Our bungalow was set directly above this beach. All bungalows have beach views. The rooms were simple, yet comfortable and clean! Dinner's were an absolute joy - we booked half board (breakfast and dinner included), which was a good choice because the meals were of very high quality. Each meal you could choose from a soup, appetiser, several main meals and several desserts. There was plenty of variety across our week - yummy yummy food! There isn't much variety in restaurants nearby, unless you eat at other hotels. We would recommend half-board 100%

We cannot say anything bad about our experience at the Sunset Beach Hotel - only that we had to pay for bottled water each day :) but of course you can walk to the local corner store and buy bottled water :) we visited the Maldives and Mauritius also on this holiday, and our time in the Seychelles was far the best.

Room Tip: Request room looking over the beach, if possible.

Wow, what a great experience in this hotel, this is a repeat hotel, private beach.

Excellence service of a young staff that is well trained and sweet.

Champagne and cocktails to celebrate this great location.

Made friends with some fishing boats that took me on a tour of the coast.

Coming back soon!

Room Tip: The room to the right after the restaurant, on top of the water, private garden and full ocean view!

My wife and I have just returned from a magical week in the Seychelles and have good memories of the Sunset Beach. We hired a car from the airport (recommended, as there is so much of the island to see, and a car gives you eating options in the evening). Be aware that from what we saw, a lot of the hire cars are rather battered (be sure to make a note of any damage before you drive away) and the smaller ones have tiny engines which makes driving the mountains a bit of a struggle!) petrol can only be purchased with Seychelles rupees.
It is true that the fixtures and fittings in the rooms and hotel are in need of some attention in places, but everything worked just fine, and since we were only in our room for a fraction of the time, it hardly bothered us. Likewise, the pool needs a good lick of paint, but hardly anyone used it due to the fantastic beach next door. The servicing was a little hit and miss, with things not being replaced on occasions-but a quick call to reception always had things remedied within a few minutes.
The outdoor breakfasts were fine, with all you'd expect, including fresh eggs cooked to order. I don't quite know what the reviewer who complained about the birds expects - a sniper behind the croissants maybe? Al fresco meals will always have to be shared with the local fauna! The lunch menu was reasonable, with toasted sandwiches an option on the lighter side. We did feel the evening menu lacked choice though ( no vegetarian option) and it was rather bland. For that reason, we got in the car and made the 5 minute run down to Beau Vallon, where there was a choice of several good restaurants.
The hotel's best asset is its location. The beach is brilliant, safe and virtually private - just a few extra visitors at the weekend. Plenty of loungers too.
All in all we were glad we'd stayed here. On our one previous visit to the island, we'd stayed at the Fisherman's Cove which was very nice, but a lot more expensive. Sunset Beach is a smaller and more down to earth hotel, which for the price, gave us what we wanted. If you want to be pampered and spoiled in pristine accommodation then it's not going to be the place for you, but some of the poor reviews here are, in our opinion, unjustified and misleading. The price is a fair one in comparison to the more upmarket locations.
We hope to return one day.

After all my years of travelling this has to be one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in - the rooms are very tired and dated and the public toilets well unusable to say the least. Breakfast is shocking and the most unhelpful rude staf in the whole of the Seychelles.

Not a good location as you need a car or taxi to get to any restaurants and believe me you will need to go out for dinner as the menu is limited and expensive. The breakfast is aweful and if you are not there early only bits left.

I travel a great deal and I am never very negative on vacation but this is a terrible place please book elsewhere there are many other great hotels to choose from

Room Tip: A good room tip dont book one

Sunset Beach is something of an antidote to the normal big brand 5 star hotels; its small, its friendly and a little quirky. The hotel rooms are on the shore while the lobby, restaurant, swimming pool and bar are perched on granite rocks that stick out into the sea. The bar in particular has a wonderful position right above the rocks. You can watch shoals of fish below in the crystal clear waters while having a drink or snack. The rooms are comfortable and the food is pretty good. Breakfasts can be a bit hit and miss as there isn't always everything on offer but there is a lovely relaxed charm about the place that makes it work. Now, the beach. It is fantastic. The snorkeling is out of this world. The hotel will loan you gear and you will have hours of entertainment swimming among the fish and coral-studded granite boulders that sit on the sea floor. We fed shoals of fish with bread and it was a magical experience to be surrounded....barged out of the way even....by hundreds of beautiful fish.

Room Tip: The higher rooms are more private, the ones by the beach can be seen into.
