My wife and I have visited this venue quite a few times in the last year. You will not easily find better sushi in the Overberg, and the calamari is yummie! The views over Walker Bay and Kleinmond Harbour make up for the occasional bottleneck in service on busy, sunny and bright weekends. Not a silver service restaurant, and they do not profess to be one either! If you have time on your hands and enjoy looking at the ever changing ocean, this is a good place to relax with your significant other and a glass of wine - a very good wine list with mostly a "local is lekker" theme.

For the hungry big boys - try the fish and calamari combo. You will battle to finish it all, and good value for money too!

We’ve been driving the R44 through Kleinmond for years without knowing about the old harbour and its collection of arty shops and restaurants.

The Shellfish and Sushi Bar was recommended to us for its sushi, but that is a food that does not appeal. However the place serves fresh seafood and has super views over the old harbour and the sea breaking spectacularly over rocks, especially when you sit on the high deck over the main restuarnat.

Our waiter, Eric, was a credit to his profession. We couldn’t decide between two wines – no problem says Eric and brings as a generous taste of each. So we decide on a bottle of the one we both prefer. Mrs P has prawns, I have the catch of the day which is pan-fried Cape Salmon, and we both choose to accompany with potato wedges.

Mrs P enjoyed her prawns and I love the simply cooked meaty white flesh of the Cape salmon. The large wedges are super, crispy on the outside and softly waxy inside. The Sauvignon Blanc – marked with a tick on the winelist as the ‘owners selection’ - just hits the spot.

This is about as perfect as it can be – beautiful views, good food and excellent service. It’s not fine dining with crisp table cloths but bare picnic benches outside.

Eric willingly moves the umbrella to shade us, the views are wonderful and prices are reasonable. Worth 5 stars in its category. A gem.

This used to the best, not anymore they need a new chef we complained but no one came to see what the problem was. I hope it sorts it's self because it is in a stunning location

Over 15 years we have been visiting this place, it started as a rustic venue with food being served from a container, but with excellent quality and friendly service.

Sadly now it has been expanded into a soulless tourist trap with a view. Today the service was friendly and efficient, but the food appalling. Mussels by the sea without a shell in site, I could buy the same packets in a frozen food store if I was inclined. The sauce was awful. The other 2 in the party had bouillabaisse which was weak and insipid. We we will not be returning and cannot recommend.

The weather was fantastic as we arrived in Kleinmond and by chance found The Shellfish Bar situated very close to the old harbour.

Rustic, casual outdoor seating, overlooking Walker Bay is their theme.

Seafood and Sushi are the main features on their menu. What else would you expect being so close to the sea..?

The hake and calamari we ordered were so fresh they could have been pulled from the water while we were parking our car.

Service could have been better and I did wonder how they "glued" the paper napkin around the cutlery. A small adhesive patch would have been a better, more hygienic option.
