“An Unexpected Treat Overlooking Lake Manyara”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

This Lodge, located at the very top of a plateau overlooking Lake Manyara, is a little jewel that will truly surprise you. The way in to the lodge, and even its entrance, is so unassuming that when you walk into the reception area your jaw literally drops. Artistically decorated with natural elements and exceptionally good taste, this lodge has it all... great accommodations, excellent food, and truly outstanding service.
To begin with, when you arrive you are assigned your own personal "butler", who sees to all your needs throughout your stay, including serving your meals and even staging unexpected surprises. Ours was named Daniel, and he was quiet, unobtrusive yet very friendly, respectful of our privacy, and attentive to a fault.
The rooms at the lodge consist of individual wooden chalets, with a surrounding balcony looking down to Lake Manyara in the distant valley. Ours had a king size bed with netting flowing down from a wooden square support suspended from the ceiling, a love seat overlooking the balcony, beautiful wooden furniture and floors, separately enclosed toilet and shower stall, twin washbasins, and a gorgeous tub overlooking the chalet veranda. The lodge has 16 chalets, and for those traveling with family, there are two with a common area surrounded by three, or two rooms, respectively, each room with its en suite bathroom.
The lodge has an infinity pool with a bar, and you can have your meals in the dining room, or ask your butler to prepare a table for you at the pool or at the outdoor terrace. One night, coming in from a full day of game driving, our butler Daniel surprised us with a candlelit room, a tub filled with bubbles and rose petals, and followed by a full meal for just the two of us, out in the terrace , under the stars. So, not surprisingly, this is a lodge we highly recommend, especially to couples looking to mix a little romance with their safari experience.

Room Tip: There are two chalets built to accommodate families.

An amazing experience in the middle of the wilderness. Stunning views across lake Manyara upon arrival. The staff once again; ever helpful and so welcoming. The bedrooms, WOW! A massive very comfortable bed, a sofa with great views, a freestanding bath with breathtaking views and an outside shower; luxury in the bush! The night we were there, the directors (all Tanzanian - which we appreciated; local ownership and management) were there and we had a fantastic dance and music show put on for us; this may be the norm but I am not sure. Regardless it was a great show, comparable to some of the cirque de Soliel acts we've seen in London and Vegas. The buffet meal at the campfire was also amazing, as was the breakfast. We just loved this lodge; and wished we'd had an extra night to fully enjoy it. Daniel; our butler was wonderful and really spoilt me with a babble bath; rose petals and all. Should you be celebrating a special romantic occasion, this is the place for you...really special, luxurious and extraordinary for its remote location.

Room Tip: Just amazing place; all the rooms are private and the service is great! If you get offered a bubble...

This place has a very nice modern lodge vibe. The dining hall was really cool. The room we had was amazing, windows on 2 full walls, with great views - you could see Lake Manyara. And the porch wrapped around 3 sides. The room we had was very big, with a great bathtub in the bathroom and a shower. The canopy bed was nice, and there was an outdoor shower (which we didnt get to use because we were only there for 1 night). They placed rose petals all over in hearts for our honeymoon, and did a bunch of other nice things like giving us a fruit basket, its was really nice of them. The location is a bit odd, but its close to Lake Manyara. This was the only place we stayed at that charged us for water during dinner, which I thought was a bit odd. But overall it was a really nice place, and we had a great time. Oh, and at dinner they had an African tribal band playing, it was cool. Its definitely a luxurious place.

After tiring game driving and trip, luxury. Wonderful view over the Rift Valley and the Lake Manyara. Our butler Ezekiel was fantastic. He made my slim young daughter to eat everything to keep Ezekiel happy. Wonderful food. Impossible to eat all the huge quantities. Etill surprise with the carrot butterflies. The "rooms", in fact chalets, are huge, with all the details, nice swimming pool, nice common area, restaurant with perfect views, ... we weree alone in the lodge, so I don't know under other conditions, but for us, perfect.

Room Tip: All of them. Less view in 1 and 2 but being far from the restaurant, quieter when lodge full

Another charming stay, thanks to Abercrombie & Kent Safari's.

We loved our brief stay here. Our spacious accommodation was another delightful surprise. It was beautifully appointed with indoor and outdoor showers. The bed was very comfortable. View was beautiful.

No complaints on the food. We thought it was excellent. Service was also very satisfactory.

For the price we paid, we felt we received the most incredible experience at this lodge. Firstly, each guest is in a private lodge, which was lovely for us, traveling as a couple. The room came with a fantastic roll top bath, outdoor shower, four poster bed and every tasteful furnishing. This is all topped by the windows on every wall showing the most magnificent view over the Great Rift Valley. We slept each night with the blinds open so we would be woken by the lovely sunrise over the valley. A Massai settlement is visible over the other side of the valley. One night as we got ready for dinner, a Massai women started singing an incredibly haunting song and the music sounded over to our chalet. It was an incredible moment during our trip.

The food was good and well served by our butler, Adolph. I felt that some Swahili items on the menu would have been a nice addition, as it would add to the experience, but that is not to say the food that was served was not good. We requested whatever it was we felt like eating at breakfast and it was served very graciously.

The pool had a great view as well and was a nice perk before and after we left for safari each day.

The location of property if quite good. The dirt road on the way is just a factor of life in Tanzania i'm afraid and if you're not prepared to travel over a bumpy road or two you're probably going to the wrong country!
