“Simply beautiful”

Travelling with EASTCO we stayed at this beautiful spot for 2 nights including Christmas Eve. The location is simply amazing and the views from the kingsize bed just stunning...as was the view from shower and toilet that are built so you can watch the outside but nobody can look in. Fantastic! There are only two bungalows, each with a high roof and "open" at the bottom so there's always a slight breeze within the room. The interiors a simple but spacious and nicely made out of natural materials. We had zebras and wildbeasts visiting at night. Loved that! The staff is really nice and the food was excellent. Watching the zebras passing by for breaktfast and the wildbeast for lunch was way better than TV could ever be ;). A truly amazing place to stay!!!!

I was a beautiful place, quiet and small, with beautiful views of the escarpment behind the lake. We walked with the Maasai here and did visit the park. If it rained the lake would be very close to the rooms which would make it pretty exciting. When we were here it was pretty dry but no less beautiful.

The rooms are stone bandas with an inside shower and toilet, very nicely designed and made.

The food was fresh and plentiful, soup of course.
One of the highlights here would be walking with the Maasai and visiting their homes, this was a good way to get some exercise after days and days in the 4 x4.There was a scattering of wildlife but in the distance.
This is an excellent way to see Manyaran not very far and once inside the park you could see the lake from the opposite shore.
The great thing about Manyara is the escarpment and the rainforest with baboons everywhere.
A visit and walk around the village of Mto wa Mbu provides an insight into small town Tanzanian life.People were roasting meat and chicken by the roadside on charcoal grills, beer was obviously plentiful and drinking started pretty early. We did sit for awhile, had a cold beer, but were a bit afraid of the roast meat.
While here we walked around the small shops and did visit a butcher's shop, beef hanging on hooks and flies of course. The meat is obviously eaten very very fresh.
What we noticed in the small bars was locals would order a beer and then some roast meat, you could actually go and ask the roaster to cut you a specific piece, he would then weigh it. you would pay for it, and it was on the grill. The smells were pretty enticing however.
I suppose the cow or bull was slaughtered that very day.
We visited the vegetable market and the souvenir shops.
Plenty of bananas and other fruit we didn't haggle but bought some bananas, I hadn't seen red bananas before, these we didn't try.
If you can avoid or ignore the hassling from sellers this is well worth a visit, we bought a few small animals to give to our grandchildren. Nice dark wood. All in all Manyara, Ol Tukai, the street stalls and rain forest give a different view of Tanzania to what you see at Tarangire, Babati or the Serengeti. This area is well worth two days.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms, both on the lake shore so when the lake is full and the flamingoes everywh...

We turned down a dirt road and drove past many Maasai bomas on the way to Ol Tukai. Ol Tukai is a very private camp with only 2 bungalows overlooking the salt pan toward Lake Manyara and the Rift Valley escarpment. It is very peaceful and the perfect place to relax and unwind.

The service and food were excellent. We ate in an open air dining room after having a drink by the fire.

The rock and screen bungalows have high pointed thatched roofs, and a glass front door. The bungalows are very roomy with a big comfortable bed, mosquito netting, a large sitting area, and proper toilet and shower. We thought we would wake with the sunrise since the bungalows are so open, but that wasn’t the case. The sun does come in, but the thatched roof overhangs the windows, so the sunlight isn’t direct and it’s so quiet and peaceful it’s very easy to stay asleep.

In the morning we went for a walk on the lakebed with two Maasai guides. We saw Zebra, Thompson Gazelle, Pelicans, Storks & Flamingos. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Ol Tukai, it was a nice peaceful change of pace. It is a very serene place, with great views and such a feeling of openness.
