This relative old lodge stays at the top of a hill overlooking Lake Manyara. Make sure you request a room at the top floor. We were lucky to stay in a very confortable two-bedroom suite, very good for families.

We enjoyed the three-course menu, where you can choose from at least two options of starter/soup, main course and dessert. Service was slow at night, as the lodge was full.

Good entertainment by the pool (while all the other places usually show Masai dance, this time there was a presentation of the Iraqw tribe).

Location is great, very close to the park entrance. Nice curio shop with fair prices.

The location is the best for sure: wonderful pool overlooking the national park with adjacent little bar and some monkeys running around.
The quality of the rooms was standard for Tanzania upper middleclass lodges: clean, spacious and comfortable.
The service was mainly very friendly though at some times not able or willing to walk the extra mile or think beyond some barriers (i.e. giving us the nicer table even though it was not originally assigned to us).
There was a little dancing show for the guests which was nice even though on the edge to be sheesy.

this was the first of 3 serenas i stayed at in tanzania and because of the hype of the serena brand i was expecting better, probably from al lthe 3 lodges i stayed at though.7 years ago i stayed at a sopa lodges in kenya, they were every bit as good and cheaper.
the location of the lodge is excellent, about a 10min drive to lake mayara national park, however the park itself was pointless,i would recommend not to go there, everyone i spoke to at our lodge were very disappointed with the park.
the rooms i felt were a bit dated and it was of my opinion that they planted trees right outside the lodges to block the amazing view you had down to the lake to make you go to the bar area, the only place at the hotel that had the lovely view down to the lake..
overall the staff, food, pool, price of the drinks were all good and would probably recommend anyone to stay there because there wasnt much wrong with it,maybe just not up to the standard that i was expecting.

Wonderful hotel. This was early on into our honeymoon and was just a great day. We were on a high after a great day viewing the residents of the national park. When we thought the day couldnt get any better we were taken to a stunning room, perched on the edge of the rift valley. We had a bottle of wine waitng for us and sat there having a drink as the sun went down. The restaurant and bar was filled with ethnic furniture, the service was great and the food was very good.

We stayed in Serena Lodges throughout our Safari but our favourite was Lake Mayara. it is refreshingly cool after the heat of the Serengeti and the layout of the hotel is very cozy. There's not a lot of stuff to see at Lake Manyara and what's really worth it is the Night Safari where you get to see a lot of animals you can't see in the day - bushbabies, porcupines, owls and hippos out of the water. We spent Christmas eve here which was very memorable. The food was great - the Christmas Spirit was encouraged with turkey, marzipan and bread pudding on the menu. It was a great place to end our Safari.
