“Great stay at Beho Beho”
Reviewed 8 September 2012

Our group of 13, especially the women, loved Beho Beho. We visited for 4 nights in August 2012. We came from a tented camp in the Serengeti, which we all liked very much, but Beho Beho accommodations are true luxury. The bandas are large, well furnished and comfortable in every way. The showers are closed but open to the sky and were a great place to film the herd of 8 elephants which visited camp everyday. The herd included 2 very young elephants and they were a joy to observe.
The service and cuisine were first rate. If you just looked like you needed something, someone was there asking. Almost every meal was held at a different venue with dinner always under the stars.
The game drives, or walks if you prefer, commence at dawn and you return before noon for lunch and an afternoon swim (or nap). Tea is served at 4 and Karin provides lots of treats with tea. The afternoon game drive starts at 4:30 and concludes with sundowners.
The walks are something everyone should experience. We got quite close to elephants and that was pretty exciting.
We saw a leopard returning in the darkness from sundowners and lions on a fresh giraffe kill. Lots of water buffs, elephant, giraffe, etc. the bird life is wonderful, particularly at Lake Tagalala.
The only thing I would change is to give guests the option to do a full day game drive and not return for lunch. It would have been nice to have more time to explore the area around Lake Manzie.
You are unlikely ro be disappointed if you visit Beho Beho. The people, service and quality of accommodation make it hard to beat.

This is a place that will exceed your expectations in every way: fabulous rooms with open views across the valleys and savannah, great food, extraordinary care and kindness from your hosts, guides and other staff, with nothing spared to surpriise and delight you - including a surprise lamplit dinner in the bush and a surprise cooked lakeside breakfast..

Most of all, you have the opportunity to see lions, giraffes, zebra, buffalo, impala, baboons, elephants, hippos, crocodiles, vultures, and dozens of other more colourful animals, insects and birds - perhaps more than a thaousand zoo-fulls of wild animals to drive and walk amongst. Worth every penny.

Room Tip: Take binoculars. Be ready to chat amiably with the other guests - meals are taken together.

If you're interested in a great safari lodge in Tanzania with superior animal sitings in a very natural setting this is it! Guests are treated as though they are personal friends in a country home. Meals are incredible and served at varying locations around the property. Wines are superior South African varieties. Brunches and "sundowners" in the "bush" are incredible. Service impeccable. Surrounded by rhinos, elephants, giraffes, and all the "big 5" in a very natural setting. This is no "zoo"...you're really in the "bush" with incredible guides, and everything that a real photo safari should be. Hosts Walter Jubber and Karin Kruger cater to the every whim of their guests. Airstrip at the lodge makes travel easy. They "got it right"! Worth the trip!

Room Tip: All are superb and fully open at the front overlooking the "bush". Elephants and rhinos w...

Beho Beho is not only a top class lodge, but they manage to welcome you in a familiar atmosphere. Staff is not professional but very friendly, not stiff at all. Also, big emphasis is placed on getting to know the other guests. For example, dinner is served at a big table where the guests mingels with the manager and the guides. This allows you to discuss and share your daily experienceces with other guests. Moreover, the guides will give you some more interesting details.

However, if you want to enjoy more privacy. The staff will arrange a separate table for you.

To sum up, I have never experienced better hospitality than in Beho Beho!

We have been on Safari before at Londolozi in South Africa. It was a fabulous experience, so when we were planning this holiday, I was worried, could it compare. In fact, it didn't. South Africa and East Africa are very different. Both fantastic! I love the vastness of East Africa. There is a "rawness" and openness that I didn't' feel in South Africa. On our first morning we came around a bend to see a herd of impalas on our right and zebras and giraffes on our left and open space for as far as you could see. Our guide waved his arms wide and said, "This is East Africa!" I like it.

What really made Beho Beho stand out, is the extraordinary personal attention. The staff gave the impression they had been waiting on your arrival all year and were so glad you had finally made it! They were charming, interested, entertaining....amazing! The guides are incredibly knowledgable - everything from the most humble dung beetle to largest mammal. The safaris are diversified with boat trips and walking safaris in addition to game drives. The food was excellent! Every meal is served in community and there is a kind of "happy hour" before dinner. It didn't feel forced, it felt like a party with new friends, by the end of the week they felt like old friends.

I was constantly surprised by the way the team brought luxury to the middle of no where!

LOVED IT!

We have always dreamed of going on safari, and while I have nothing to compare it to, this was the experience of a lifetime. The views are absolutely spectacular. But best of all were the guides who were very knowledgeable, and really made the trip for us.

I must also put a plug in for Nick French of the Tanzania specialist, who sorted the trip out for us, and went above and beyond the call of duty.

Beho Beho is situated in the Selous Game Reserve and is reached from Dar es Salaam with a forty minute flight. The lodge is a five minute drive from the airstrip. This is an intimate lodge with first class accommodation. There are eight very large well appointed bandas with open fronts from which there are spectacular views. The lounge and dining area is very well appointed with a well stocked bar and a billiard table. The staff are most attentive to all needs. There are internet facilities. There is a swimming pool.
Game drives are excellent both in the evening and morning. One particularly good point is the chance to go for long bush walks with an expert guide. Bird viewing is good, particularly the bee-eaters which fly round the land cruisers.
The food is of a very high standard and an interesting feature is that guests are seated by the staff so this offers the chance to meet and make conversation with fellow guests. Each evening dinner is served at a different location which also is fun particularly when served outwith the camp area. There is the chance to spend a night in the bush and while we did not do this we wished that we had as those returning reported a unique experience. Another experience was the boating safari on lake Tagalala where the crocodiles were amazing.
This is a camp which we would very much like to experience again.

Room Tip: All are the same.
