Yes, Warere offers lovely rooms, a well appointed guesthouse with lots of atmosphere. It is much finer than the neighboring budget hotels. Yes it is convenient to the ferry however it is in a grubby part of town and if you like to partake in any activities in the city centre it is a sketchy walk back - especially alone. I moved the second day and felt much more comfortable.
For couples or groups, however, you will love it here.

Dear Maria-Enrique,

Thank you for reviewing the Warere! We are glad you liked our rooms and the ambiance of the Warere. I am sorry you did not like the location. About 35% of our guests are solo travellers, and many of these enjoy being away from the more chaotic and touristy streets of the center. I also wanted to point out that a taxi from Forodhani to the Warere is only TZS3,000 and there are plenty of them! I am glad you found a hotel that better suited your needs and enjoyed the rest of your stay in Stone Town.

The B&B is located very close to the Zanzibar port - where the ferry from Tanzania mainland and Pemba Island and all sorts of other cargo ships dock. It is about 10 min walk to the central area of Stone Town (e.g., Forodhani Gardens area). I find it safe to walk back and forth during the mornings and early evenings, as a solo female.
Staff is good and can do airport pickup/dropoff anytime. Breakfast is taken at the topmost floor of the building, so one can see the seaview from there. Guest house is typical Zanzibar style and architecture: 4-5 stories with many stairs and no elevators - so you probably dont want to pack too much into your suitcase.
Wifi can be spotty sometimes, but as I was out most of the time, this does not really bother me.

Shauna and the staff at Warere are super helpful. They arranged us to pickup from the airport really early in the morning. Welcome drinks were refreshing. And, the breakfast was delicious and the view from the rooftop is amazing.

Hotel is very good as a B&B. View from the top (eating area) is very nice. Hotel is just a walking distance from the port so we should not have hired a cab to go there, however, u should ask someone where to go in as the building is off main road, u can't see from the main road. Room was ok, but no TV or wifi. The breakfast was OK but no lunch / no dinner. Tidiness was good and the hotel has a local feeling as it is old but kept in a good shape. At the entrance those flowers and trees are beautiful, staff was nice. Would have gone back this time again but they were full. I spent there 5 days with my g/f in April 2013. Only annoying thing was the horn from the docks.

Dear Haranghy,

Thank you for reviewing the Warere. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and sorry we couldn't accommodate you at the end of your journey.

For future guests: we offer a free walking pickup from the ferry port so guests do not get lost or hassled on arrival. Please text, call or email us with your boat arrival time to arrange this.

None of our rooms have TVs, but we do offer wifi in the reception and terrace areas. The wifi signal also works in some of the rooms.

We hope to see you again in the future!

we stayed in this hotel (I think it was only b&b) for two nights . our room was in second floor but there didn't have an elevator. room was small but really clean . as we arrived the air conditioner didn't work good ,that they fixed that in some hours . the breakfast was good and fresh but a little choices and same both days .not TV in room and wifi was slow in room .actually every thing was moderate but according to the money we paid (55$/day) it was a good choice for budget travel to a clean place in zanzibar

great service from the moment we walked in. nice rooftop balcony for drinks and breakfast, walking distance to the heart of stonetown. nice rooms and helpful staff. the ginger drink and face towel as we checked in was a nice touch, they were super helpful with bag storage and helped us organise future accommodation at another resort.

This charming little hotel is a great place to stay when visiting Stone Town. Although located in a sketchy area (behind the port), not very visible (signage) and access to the building is a bit uncomfortable (you have to squeeze yourself and luggage between two walls), the hotel makes up for it in many ways! Upon arriving, they offer you a fresh homemade beverage and moist towels to wash up. The lobby is decorated in an Arabic style with wood benches, a fountain, and low lighting to make you feel warm and right at home. We had the deluxe room on the upper floor which was worth the extra bit because it had a spacious shower, two double beds that gave us space to hang out, and a balcony with somewhat of a view. The little artisanal clove soaps were a nice touch. Breakfast on the rooftop was great because everything was fresh and had a local flavor to it. The staff was very friendly, attentive, and helpful in recommending where to go and what to see. Upon our departure, we had a middle of the night flight, and they allowed us to leave our luggage till the late hours and even offered us bottled water to drink and towels to take showers to freshen up before our trip! These extra touches made our stay very comfortable and pleasant. I have to warn that we experienced water cuts, power cuts, and the internet connection was not that great, but hey, ‘we’re not in Kansas anymore’. Will definitely recommend!

Hi A_Toribio,

Thank you for reviewing the Warere! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciated all the little things we do to try and make our guests feel welcomed. I am sorry if you took the "squeezed" route to the Warere, there are actually three different ways to arrive, sorry for that! Also I do apologise for the water cut, our water pump broke while you stayed with us, this has since been replaced. The internet and power sadly are out of our control and can be frustrating!

We do hope to see you again in the future!
