Kisiwa House is a new boutique hotel in Stonetown in a great location. The rooms are really nice - we had the Malilia Jr Suite - great linens and modern bathroom.
I always prefer the beaches to towns but a day or 2 in Stonetown is worth it if you have the time.
You can walk to see all the sights, the market, the museum etc.
Try the Serena for sundowner cocktails and La Fenice across teh street for a nice dinner on an outside terrace.

Kisiwa house is a type of a boutique hotel which is located in the heart of stowetown. Our overall experience with the hotel was nice - we have no complains and it was always nic e to come back to it after a long day out.

Rooms: comfortable; AC is a huge welcome from the outside heat; washroom facilities are good as well

Location: the biggest selling point. everything is literally 5-15 mins away

Service: always on time. liked the cookies served at night time. The breakfast in the morning is up to par as well - we especially liked the bread basket

Kisiwa house is probably one fo the few hotels in ZnZ which are of 4-5 star quality.

Because the hotel is in the heart of stonetown - you will be getting approached as soon as you step out of the hotel with anything the local sellers have to offer - so be prepared for it ahead

Will we stay here again? definitely!

P.S Def encourage you to visit Prison Island for the big tortoise!

We stayed here for one night in room 10.

it was a spacious room, with big four poster bed with mosquito net. Very comfortable. There is a flat screen TV on wall, mini-bar fridge and safe in cupboard, shutters on windows rather that curtains which is in keeping with the area. There is a user controlled air conditioning unit and a separate fan over the bed.

There was free WIFI internet access in the room.

It was clean and recently decorated.

The bathroom is a large room with a modern free standing bath at one end, two basins, each with mirror and light above, a separate tiled enclosure shower. The bathroom fittings were modern. My only complaint is that whilst the fittings were all new and modern the water supply to the shower was feeble, a real pity after the investment in this bathroom.

The hotel is on a very quiet side street but still only a few minutes from the sea and the fish market.

Room 10 is directly underneath the outside terrace restaurant and just after 6am there was a bit of noise as tables and chairs were positioned for breakfast. As we had got up at 6am to go out exploring it did not bother us but it might be an irritant to someone planning to sleep in.

I glanced into room 5 whilst it was being cleaned and it seemed identical to Room 10 and directly below room 10 and so if you are planning a sleep in you might prefer room 5.

This is a converted merchants house, not a purpose built hotel and so the rooms do vary quite a bit in size.

The staff were courteous and helpful, providing us with a map of Stone Town and quickly solving a problem with the safe.

i just returned from my one-night trip to stone town and couldn't wait to write a review for kisiwa house. the service and style were first-rate all the way. it's tucked away off the main road (kenyatta), which means its centrally located but still in a quiet alleyway. the style of the hotel is in classic boutique form with clean, simple elegance and attention to detail.

cheherezade and her staff are lovely, helpful and at the ready at all times. i bought a wooden trunk and had to get it packaged up in cardboard for the long haul back to the US. having no idea how to go about this, i enlisted the help of some staff at kisiwa house. they told me to enjoy my day and not wory about it. by the time i returned from lunch, they had managed to package the trunk (which is the size of a coffee table) tightly with cardboard and rope - and all on a sunday (when all the supply shops were clsoed)!

any hotel can have a nice layout and good food, but it's the staff that put it over the top - and that's where kisiwa house is 5-star!
