St. Monica's was just what we were looking for. Located right in the center of Stone town its a great jumping off point for wherever you want to go on the island. We came early and they were kind enough to have a room ready for us. There is air conditioning and some of the rooms above the old slave quarters have a perfect little balcony to relax on. The room was nice enough, private, and was great for a couple nights stay. Free breakfast in the morning was an excellent way to start the day and really sets this place apart from the rest. Free admission to the Old Slave Market site is included with the stay and a must see for visitors. Most taxi drivers know where St. Monica's is so setting up transport to the beaches is quick an easy. Lots of street food vendors are just down the way for a quick bite (bbq octopus, zanzibar pizza, samosas). Asante Sana.

St Monica's lodge was a great place to stay. The staff, particularly Celine, were polite, helpful and available making our stay easy and pleasant. The rooms were large and adequate and the situation with balconies overlooking the Cathedral was lovely. It is easy to reach from outside Stone Town yet well positioned to visit the City and it is not at all expensive. Water and lights were not always what you might expect but that is the same story in top hotels. They were just installing WiFi as we left.

Room Tip: Why not make this a base from which to explore the island and Hire a motorcycle or Car from Ali Keys. We preferred rooms with Balconies

Loved the place. Rooms were clean, fans worked, all beds have nets. Staff is really friendly and helpfull. Breakfast is solid. I had a room with shared facilities (hot water!!) and it was quite basic but clean and everything in function. Moreover the wi-fi is reliable. Cheap and good value-for-money. Only thing is that it can be quite noisy from the street in the evenings/early night, so see if you can get a room facing the church instead of facing the street. I was planning to stay for three nights, stayed for seven.

The building on the slave market is beautiful. Rooms are clean and have good mosquito nets, some have a balcony viewing the old slave market and church. Friendly staff, good breakfast. Bathroom very basic.

Room Tip: Be sure to stay in the inner part where other tourist have to pay a fee to enter. A part of my family stayed in the room next to the reception, which is a lot darker.

Very good. Friendly staf, good breakfast, good rooms, ... We had a very nice stay there. Only thing: there is no internet and if you guide / travel with a group could that be interesting. But that is just a small detail. The hotel is definitly one to stay at...
