“Waited way too long - VERY slow”
Reviewed 3 November 2013

We visited Lazuli twice for lunch.

The first time we waited an hour for food and the second time we waited almost an hour and a half.

Yes, the smoothies are nice, and yes, the food is good, but one reaches a point where the wait outweigh's everything else.

I cannot understand how a restaurant with only 5 or 6 tables can take this long to serve food. Yes the food is fresh, but I have eaten in restaurants all over the world that make the food fresh that have way more tables and the wait isn't nearly as long. In fact where I am from (Cape Town) serving fresh food is the norm and I can think of many places in Cape Town that serve the same type of food as Lazuli, made fresh, MUCH MUCH faster.

I also noticed that people were coming in and ordering take-aways whilst the rest of us sat like fools at tables waiting. I waited 40 minutes to get a smoothie (the food then took another 40 mins), whilst someone came in and ordered a smoothie and got it ten minutes later. Surely they should serve seated guests before taking take-away orders.

The one saving grace is that the one lone guy working in the front is very friendly and was doing his utmost to appease everyone.

“Great fresh salads and juices”
Reviewed 24 October 2013

Try a passion fruit and lime juice! I've been here on a couple different visits, and prefer the salad to the wraps, which are wrapped in chapatis (always a bit oily) and therefore cut down on the "fresh" feeling. Cute little place, too expensive for Tanzanian food, but such is life in Stone Town, and the food is high quality. Do be prepared for a bit of a wait. Highly recommended!

“Delightful smoothies and lovely fresh salads”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

This is a tiny place but certainly worth a visit for lunch or brunch. The ginger smoothie was absolutely delightful, and the calamari salad extremely fresh and tasty. Reasonably priced; the menu has a fair amount of choice, and I actually wish I'd had time to visit again. Service was a little slow, but I presume this was because everything is prepared freshly to order - and anyway, I wasn't in any hurry to leave!
