My husband and I have just returned from Zanzibar and spent 6 nights at the Emerson Spice Hotel. The service was first class, and the food exceptional. Each evening the menu was unique. I cannot praise this hotel more, The rooms are beautiful. We stayed in Kate.

When I arrived at Emerson Spice I was immediately struck by the likeness to the riads of Morocco. The building is beautiful from outside and in and this is only enhanced by the sympathetic décor. The communal places are gentle and inviting. The rooms are to die for, a riot of colour, plush furnishings and wonderfully individual. We had 2 rooms and both were opulent, stunning and comfortable. I can honestly say the beds were the most comfortable that I slept on in Zanzibar. The staff are delightful and very accommodating - they can't do enough for you. I highly recommend a stay at this hotel when visiting Stone Town as it is a true oasis in a bustling busy town.

We have stayed here several times and this little gem hits the mark every time. No place captures the magic of Zanzibar as well as Emerson - unlike any other hotel in the world. Looking forward to our next stay.

Our room was a wonderful step back in time, beautifully furnished in a style that I would imagine I could have seen 100 years ago. Atmospheric and lovely. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well. Rashid and Khamis were especially helpful.

We just had the pleasure of staying at Emerson Spice for 3 nights. My emails were always answered very promptly and I received information about the various day tours available as well as descriptions of the rooms. We arranged with the hotel ahead of time to be picked up at the airport and someone was waiting for us when we arrived. The streets of Stone Town are very narrow so the car bringing us from the airport had to park some distance away and the driver walked us and our suitcases to the hotel. We were warmly welcomed by the staff. Our room, Camille, was up several flights of stairs. The stairways are long as the rooms have 14 foot ceilings. Our room was airy and bright and beautifully decorated with stained glass and wood trim. The 2 balconies permitted a cross breeze. We found it very, very hot and humid in Zanzibar so used our ceiling fans and air conditioning quite a bit. The room never got very cool but the humidity was greatly reduced. The call to prayer at the local mosque at 5:15 AM woke us up but it was short-lived and the sounds quite soothing. The stone bath tub and shower were right in the main room without a curtain or door so be prepared to bathe in full view! During the day, the doors to the other rooms were often open so we were able to take a peek at the other suites. All of them were unique and beautiful. One day we had a wonderful lunch in the cafe on the ground floor. Our second evening, we had a very nice dinner at the rooftop restaurant. Food was nicely presented and of good quality. It was so nice to be able to taste so many different foods. Breakfast was always nice on the rooftop although it was exactly the same every day and would probably get boring if you stayed longer. The hotel arranged a walking tour of the city for us and this was very interesting and the guide was knowledgeable. Each time we went out of the hotel for dinner, someone accompanied us so we would not get lost. The hotel provided a cellphone and we just had to dial "1" when we were ready to be picked up. One afternoon we wanted to have a cup of tea & coffee in the room. My husband asked someone at the front desk and soon a tray arrived at our door. We went on the Safari Blue tour and the Princess Salme Spice tour and very much enjoyed both of them. We went on the Spice tour the day we were leaving for home and the hotel permitted us to use our room to shower and get cleaned up before leaving for the airport. This was a huge bonus that we did not expect and we were very grateful. When we left Emerson Spice, we felt like we were leaving family behind. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful stay in Zanzibar!

We came here for my 30th birthday and it was just wonderful. The staff made a huge effort, and the service was brilliant. Russell, the manager, is very very good and conscientious. The rooms are really special - the most beautiful I think we've ever stayed in. And the food is so good and very affordable.

It's a wonderful and very special place to stay. I have been there together with my wife in february 2014. You should choose your room in advance as the rooms are different and you
can dedice the one that better fits with your mood, expectations and lifestyle.
I also rember the wonderful terrace and the roof restaurant with excellent food.
The people working for the Hotel are kind and competent
hugs
marco
