Just got back from Zanzibar. I loved this hotel! Spotless, great location right in Stone Town close to the beach and historical sites, beautiful rooftop restaurant & view, wonderful staff. Recommend highly.

Room Tip: If the elevator is important to you, ask to be close to it.

We stayed at the Maru Maru in Feb 2014 and really enjoyed our visit. The staff was so very helpful and genuinely cheerful, making us feel special and valued as guests. The room was small if you compare to US standards, but it was very clean, modern and had GREAT air conditioning! We liked that it was in walking distance of everything in the heart of Stone Harbor and we would definitely recommend this hotel to you!

We stayed 3 nights at Maru Maru and found it to be fine, but nothing special. The breakfast buffet was disappointing - and they charged us for water! - although the dinner menu included delicious Indian options. Maru Maru has no pool or beach so take that into consideration if looking for a hotel with those amenities. Staff was friendly and rooms were very clean and well-kept.

I stayed for five nights. Maru Maru is on the street in the middle of Stone Town. It was clean and quiet. Satellite TV. Rooftop dining. Close to all kinds of activities. Easy to get a guide to take you about to the sights. Took a dhow boat at sunset. Slave caves, spice plantations, Prison Island, saw Red Colobus monkey, Persian Baths, city fish market, and much more. The history of Zanzibar is fascinating.

Room Tip: My room was fine and my daughter had a different room and she said hers was fine.

Attended a function in Dar Es Salaam on a Friday and decided to go over to Zanzibar for the Saturday and Sunday. The hotel was great! Offered all basics without being too pricey, perfect for a one or two night stay. Food and service on the rooftop was good, breakfast doesn't offer a whole lot in terms of variety, but was still acceptable. Wifi is free, which is awesome, but the quality thereof wasn't that great. Will definitely go back.

The Maru Maru is a Very Nice, Wonderful Hotel tucked away on a Stone Town backstreet, with a lot of nice perks and a great price. Perfect location, walking distance to the Harbor, Sultans Palace, Old Fort and All the Markets, Shops and Street Ambiance in Stone Town. Great Value. The rooftop restaurant had a great breakfast buffet with a spectacular view. The downstairs bakery was very nice, delicious offerings and not to be missed-a hidden gem. The room was spacious, immaculate and comfortable. Staff well trained and very helpful. Highly recommend Maru Maru for a stay in Stone Town.
