We spent few days in Stone Town and really enjoyed the Zanzibar life.
Zanzibar accommodation is within the city center and close to anything that Stone Town can offer.
We spent $15 per person in a triple double bed room with en-suite toilet + breakfast was included.
Amazing view from the breakfast room and friendly staff.

Hello Fellas,
I recently stayed in this hotel it's just AWESOME. The best part is the room top, where they provided breakfast with sunrise or dinner along the moon light. A place up so high where you can see the entire stone town along with three minor islands of Zanzibar (Prison, Bawe, Snake). The staff is great, friendly, helpful, and informative. The beds are huge solid, carved with solid wood and designed like the king's bed with mosquito nets. Instant hot water heaters, 24/7 security guard at the door. The best part is the price $$$, it is very cheap compared to other hotels in Zanzibar. This place is not luxury you can tell by their price, but if you're like me; looking to save money and take advantage in other things then this is the right place for you.

Firstly take some bread or about 2km of string so when you head out at night you can find your way back especially after a few safari's. No road nearby so no taxi. You could walk past it & not even realise. We stayed at ZDL having returned late in the day from the east coast & wanted to get the first ferry to DAR (0700) & this is the nearest, rated & cheapest place ($13 pp) to the ferry port. If this is the purpose of your stay its a 10 minute walk to the terminal. Its probably the most crooked place Ive even been with a lot of wonky steep stairs & uneven floors with a bit of a kitchen/avery (parrots) on the 1st floor & partitioned rooms on the larger 2nd & 3rd floors. A shared toilet with cold shower & a shared toilet with hot shower are on each floor. The rooms contain a bed with a padlocked door & ceiling fan. It seemed safe enough & was particulary quiet. The other guest were 3 groups of 2 girls all 20-25 years old. The absolute highlight of this hotel is when you go to the top 2 floors on the roof & look out over the whole of Stone Town from a birds eye point of view. A photographers delight with a full 360 degree view of Stone Town & all its major sights - absolutely stunning.

Room Tip: Lowest floor as the stairs are steep!

If you are looking for a fancy bed and an air-conditioned room, you are in the wrong place.
But if you don't mind a normal bed with a mosquito net (most important thing) then it's perfectly fine. Unless you plan on spending the day in your room, it is a great place to leave your things and walk though Stone Town without your luggage.

It is a bit difficult to find but the locals are very willing to help and it's nice to walk through the streets of Stone Town as well.

Breakfast was decent.

It is within walking distance of everything and the manager (Big Simba) will organize tours for you.

Showers were not the best but in the end I was clean and smelled great so I was happy.

Room Tip: Room 7 or 8. Has a great terrace above

This is the most random place I've ever stayed. The trip didn't start well as they had kindly arranged for a taxi to meet us from the airport. No taxi arrived so we had to make our own way there. When we eventually got there a very rude man opened the door who had no idea what was going on and whether we were booked in or not. Eventually someone showed us to a room but they wanted proof of our booking ( we had already paid 10%) which we didn't have as we were in the middle of travels around Africa with no printer. Eventually we paid what we though was way over the price but was actually what we booked it as.. but after our stay we wanted our money back!
The room was clean but there was no glass in the window so all the mosquito's came in as well as the noise from the street. The rooms are very random and are up several steep flights of rickety stairs. The bathroom was not clean and the flush broken. The shower was cold and started as a trickle which stopped after a minute leaving me with soap in my hair.
Breakfast was ok, fruit and bread with a tiny omelette. The view from the roof top is very cool. They were kind enough to arrange it a little earlier as we had a plane to catch but it was still half an hour late which made it a rush to get to the airport on time.
The first time we stayed they looked after our bags while we went to see the tortoises. But I would not want to stay again. I would advice you to only stay if you really are skint as it seems to be the cheapest place around. Although compared to the rest of Africa it is way too expensive. I would just head straight to the beach and avoid Stone Town all together if I were you.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor are quieter and have glass in the windows but there are lots of stairs to get...

I paid 15$ per night and had very lavoly breakfast at Roof Top restaurant with nice view and atmosphere in the morning.
The room was large and very comfort bed and mattress.
