Location is good - within walking distance of the famous Forodhani market. It has a 3 meter deep pool and comes with free pool (snooker?) table. I felt I was living in a musuem half the time. Do take note that there are no lifts so be prepared to make use of the porter if you're staying on the 3rd floor.

Dear Peyter,

Thank you for staying with us, and we hope that you enjoyed the swim and a good game of snooker while here in Zanzibar.
Its an old building, and really no space for a lift - but we like to think that this is one of the charms of the Dhow Palace. The porters are there to help you with the luggage, so please feel free to ask them to help with suitcases and hand luggage.
Thank you for taking your time to share your experience. We hope to see you here agin soon.

thank you

The hotel is nicely situated a couple of blocks away from the sea, close the the post office and plenty of shops and restaurants. Everything worked well, including AC, hot water and wifi. The breakfast was good. Some of the dishes in the restaurant was great, and some really mediocre. The same can be saidfor the waiters.

The rooms were clean, but not very modern. You will either love it for it's eastern look, or think it is citch.

In all there was nothing wrong with the hotel, except that there is better value to be found in Stone Town

Just a one night stay but so lovely. Great location in the old town. Wonderful old world atmosphere while still new world comfort. Worth while just to wander around the the place for all of the antiques. A real gem!

Arabian style hotel in the middle of Stone Town, Zanzibar, the hotel is a converted from palace, some Sultan or a royal member lived there.
Dhow Palace is indeed a magical place, good view from the top floor, intercontinental breakfast, friendly staff, and a pool.
Huge rooms, authentic furniture, takes you back in time,
Visited a friend (Ibrahim) after 27yrs, he put me up there, stayed one night and will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Switch the AC on an hour before bed, pick the room on top floor

The hotel is built in old Arabian style, it felt like staying in Palace from the old times, the furniture and even the bathroom is made in a special way to suit the theme.

Stayed for one night and wont hesitate to stay there again.

Nothing has been changed to detract from the feeling that the sultan still lives here. The place is huge and takes advantage of every bit of shade an air in steamy Stone Town. The furnishings are spectacular--antique cradles, a portrait of the queen, inlaid Zanzibar tables and cabinets with painted glass tiles. The beds are huge and sit so high you need a step to get up--you feel like a pasha under your mosquito net. The bathroom has beautiful finishes. Service is very good, despite the wonky credit card connection. the doorman led us to a pharmacy and then to the spice market. The breakfast buffet is ample, ranging from the full English breakfast to lighter fare. The location is also wonderful, close to the water and on the edge of the maze of Stone Town. My one regret about my trip is that I didn't stay longer.

The Dhow Palace is magical, and is a good value for money hotel. I got one of their three-bed rooms.

Pros:
1. Room size is huge. If you're a group of 3, to say around 5, you'll fit in pretty well.
2. The receptionist is helpful with the tour/taxi arrangements, and comparing it to the other hotels, they don't overcharge.
3. Very close to everywhere in Stone Town.
4. Good value for money.

Cons:
1. Breakfast is bleh.
2. The rooms may feel old, sometimes the shower pressure is bad. But it's part of the charm.
3. They shut down the doors after around 10, so if you're staying out, you'll have to wait for the receptionist to open the main door for you.

Just a tip: when you get to the airport, they'll show you all the taxi tariff. You can negotiate it down to half. If they say no, just walk away.

Dear Vodkacran23

We are delighted to read your review of Dhow Palace Hotel. I understand from what you write, that you were given one of the rooms in our historical old wing. Yes, these rooms are big and spacious, and can easily fit up to 5 people. All these rooms are unique, with their small quirks and "personality" - the issue of the water pressure is something we constantly are addressing to improve, and as you put it "part of the charm".

For the benefit of other travelers coming to stay with us at The Dhow Palace Hotel, it would be very valuable to ust o have a more detailed information in regards to the breakfast issue - please feel free to mail me manager@dhowpalace-hotel.com.

once again, thank you very much for taking your time to write this review.
