“well worth it”
Reviewed 13 March 2012

an excellent Zanzibari informational museum, with decent exhibits that provide great background on the island/ Swahili culture. the excellent views on the top floor make the entrance price worth it if not for anything else.

“Best part of stone town”
Reviewed 11 March 2012

This museum was practically empty of tourists when we went .There are a couple of floors of rooms with artefacts ,This is the one place to get a good overview of the history of Stonetown as the local guides are hopelessly inaccurate Four dollars a person for admission The first building in Africa to have electricity and also to have a lift

“OK, but too hot to take time for the complete visit”
Reviewed 10 March 2012

Visited here as part of our Stone Town walking tour. It seemed like a nice place to learn more history about the town, but it was at the end of our walk and after 2 hours of walking in the hot sun and high humidity, the kids and I were ready for a dip in the pool. So we just explored the ground floor.

“Must've missed the wonders?”
Reviewed 6 March 2012

I think it was formerly a beautiful palace, but it's sure run-down. There are some really cool exhibitions on culture inside, and it's well worth visiting and reading the displays to learn about where you are. But the wonders? They must be long-gone.

“House of Wonders is worth a visit.”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

The House of Wonders is certainly worth a visit to see the carved doors and the spaces that were used by the Sultans and the sultanate government. The museum and building is not maintained as well as it should be, but there are many interesting exhibits.
