After back to back dusty, bumpy safaris in Kenya and Tanzania, three days relaxation was in order. The hotel’s decor Is in an Arabesque style, fitting the huge influence Arab culture has had on the island, which these days is 95% Muslim. It is cool and spacious, with a dining room, and an area called the Living Room which is a coffee lounge, bar, casual meeting room, and a place to watch soccer. Outside, there is a lovely terrace and swimming pool. The lobby has a cool space and lovely pool, reflecting Arab geometric design.
You could not wish for a more helpful and obliging staff. Everyone seemed to know what you’d done that day and was interested in your reactions to your experiences. Nothing seems rushed but everything is done on time,
Rooms are huge with mosquito nets for the beds, shuttered windows, aircon, overhead fan, and a table and chairs and easy chair. Equally huge, well-appointed bathrooms and sophisticated lighting. Enough power points and charging facilities. Beautifully cleaned and maintained.
Right on the edge of Stonetown so sightseeing there is easy, and it is also close to boating and a beach.
Unknowingly I had dropped my wallet out of my bag when taking out my camera to take a photo, and it was returned to me snappily by security who made sure Inchecked the contents. Of course it was all there.
The wait staff are extraordinarily well trained, the food is fabulous, and everything runs like clockwork.
Easy to organise or pick up tours from here.
It was a brilliant place to unwind- I can’t recommend it highly enough.
