“Great place in the park!”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

This is a really unique place to stay - a very memorable experience! Their 10 tented dwellings are pretty much right on the river, so you hear the flow of the water constantly. It's very unique and relaxing. They even set up the dinner tables near the river so you could really enjoy the experience. The service was excellent, the maanger terrific, and the food very good - they even did a good job with the vegetarian options! So much so that the carnivores wanted them!

The only downside is spotty internet service and no outlets in the rooms. Also, taking a hot/warm shower can be a bit of a challenge - par for the course in a venue like this.

Notably, we went on a game drive and saw a bunch of lions sleeping in the trees in the afternoon - it was a fabulous! Definitely consider this options if you're in the area.

We arrived at the Ishasha camp late in the evening due to our driver wanting to impress us with a less traveled road...it was SO less traveled that we eventually had to turn back since the road (and I use this word lightly) turned into swamp! By the time we arrived, our party of 4 were extremely tired and a bit crabby. The staff took over and welcomed us and got us fed immediately, and the food was great. I definitely recommend getting to this camp earlier in the evening so you can enjoy the scenery and the dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. The luxury accommodations were fabulous and the river right outside each cabin was mesmerizing. Everyone working at the camp made sure we had everything we wanted whether it pertained to special diets or other types of special requests.
Not many other clients were at the camp the 2 days we stayed, so we almost felt like it was our private camp!

Room Tip: I believe all the rooms are equal in what they offer....view, beds etc.

There are not so many words to describe this simply magnificent place in the wilderness. Ishasha Wilderness camp is one of those very few places where they know what it means to take care of a guest in the wilderness. It is special, wonderful, the staff pay attention to detail, the luxury tents are just a home away from home. And the food...I don't know where they got their chef from but he is simply great and very creative. It's the best food I have eaten while on safari to be honest.

There are so many amazing surprises that await you...whether it's elephants feeding across the river while you sit outside your luxury tent, whether it's buffaloes crossing the river or weaver birds dashing to and from the other side of the river carrying materials to build their nests...there is a lot to see while relaxing or just staying at this place.

I will just share some of the photos I have taken over several trips to speak for themselves and I thank you to all the Ishasha Wilderness camp team, right from Carla, when I book the safaris, to Abu, the Camp manager to all the friendly staff, Charles, Kesloni and all the rest, you guys made our stay wonderful.

True luxury in genuine African wilderness. My friend and I travelled to Ishasha in January 2014. I had known about this lodge for a long time and was very excited to finally get the opportunity to stay there. My booking was handled effortlessly by Elizabeth in Kampala. We travelled from the Queen Elizabeth side and drove into the sunset as we reached the park. Whilst the road is a bit bumpy, it's definitely worth the trip. The lodge is not far from the park gate and we reached in time for a tasty dinner under the blight stars, beside the river and then had drinks at the campfire before retiring to a lovely room with (possibly my favourite part), a little bedtime story printed out and on the pillow. I won't spoil the ending! We got up the next morning and took it slow. We then took a game drive and found 5 lions in one tree in the south or the park. We felt like the luckiest people on the planet. We then went back to the lodge before heading on to our next destination. The wildlife surrounding the lodge was wonderful, especially the black and white colobus monkeys. The lodge was well managed by Abu. The staff really made us feel welcome and relaxed and were very flexible when we were about 4 hours late for lunch as we hadn't wanted to leave the lions. We will definitely be going back!

What more can you ask for!?

My husband and I had a 50-person safari wedding at IWC this past December where we booked the entire camp for accommodations, ceremony and reception. Words do not exist that can describe how incredible the experience was. The manager, Jane, is exceptionally gifted at paying close attention to every detail, resulting in the most relaxing, well-run "camp" you can imagine. Indeed, "camp" is hardly the right word to describe IWC: as other reviews mention, the accommodations provide the height of comfort, the food (all meals of the day) is plentiful and delicious, and the staff are true friends by the end of your stay.

As a vacation spot, I cannot recommend it highly enough. As far as hosting a wedding there, it provided the perfect combination of class and wilderness that we were looking for. The ceremony by the riverbank under an acacia tree, about a three minutes' walk from the main lodge. The camp provided cool drinks at the ceremony site, and for the reception at the main lodge, the camp arranged all of the tables and seating, the dance area, a cocktail and appetizers area on a veranda by the river, an outdoor lounge just beside the dance floor, and a fire on the same veranda by the veranda at the end of the evening.

The natural beauty of the camp's location and its tasteful decorations mean that very, very little decoration is required or even recommended. We brought a sparse few additional table decorations (table runners, our own vases, guest favors, and family candle holders) and speakers for dancing, but that was it. Basically, if you have IWC running everything, your safari wedding would have incredible food, naturally beautiful decorations and the most stunning ceremony backdrop and reception location you could wish for. Your guests would also, of course, have time in Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous as the home of Uganda's tree-climbing lions, and much other game besides.

The place itself is magnificent and every interaction we had with the staff was excellent. I cannot recommend IWC highly enough, either for a visit or to host your special day!

Room Tip: Every room is beside the river, so you can't really miss out when it comes to rooms. =)

This was a very comfortable camp and far exceeded expectations. The tented accommodation was excellent with en-suites and very spacious and comfortable bedding, flushing enviro friendly toilets, hot showers (upon request) and great communal dining and meeting space.

To be able to lie in bed and hear the river flowing gently outside is so serene and relaxing. The chance of the occasional visit by an elephant to frolick in the river (occurred twice in the two days we were there) is an added bonus.

The only criticism, which is probably a bit unreasonable given you are in the wilderness, is that WiFi is only available for three hours in the evening - and even then it was a bit of a lottery.

Food and service surpassed expectations.

Room Tip: I think all rooms are very much the same but a couple are not directly on the river so request one b...

We were a group of 20 Ugandan Tour operators and stayed for 2 Nights. Ishasha wilderness camp is hidden treasure on the banks of Ntungwe River, right inside Ishasha sector famous for tree climbing lions. The restaurant setting facing the gentle flowing river is superb. The food was good and on the last evening we were treated to a sundowner - wow- a cool drink in the middle of the the savannah over sunset!

The staff are very nice and hospitable above all they make you feel safe in the wild being escorted to and from the rooms.

The rooms were beautifully laid and are very spacious yet environmentally friendly. The owners put in a lot of ideas.

I will stay again with my family
