“Good value, basic accommodation”
Reviewed 8 February 2013 via mobile

We started in the guest house with a group of friends. It worked out as excellent value. It's pretty basic. Beds were comfortable enough, bathroom very basic but adequate. It's ideal for early morning game drive as it's right next door to the park HQ. After the game drive the breakfast across the road at the hostel was good. We splashed out for a swim and evening meal at the hotel which made our stay enjoyable.

We spend two nights in the Mweya Hostel and we had a great time.
We could rent the four-room chalet with five men and were pleased with it.
The restaurant of the hostel is pleasant and it serves good fish. When you want to upgrade your meal or look for some wifi, the luxury but ridiculous expensive safari lodge is nearby.

The Mweya Hostel is a well working, inexpensive, base for doing the things you like on the peninsula like hanging out or making boattrips and game-rides.

It is well to reach with a bicycle and you can even ride out off ot to Ishasha, seeing a lot of wildlife.
You can even see wildlife in front of your room, where the warthogs and waterbuck graze in the garden and a troop of mongoose roams the place looking for leftovers.

Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Go for the chalet. If you are more than three it's worth it and when you are five it's even...

Spent a few days here in April, rooms are fine and very basic, just don't expect anything nice. Communal showers & toilets require a maintenance fix, but if you just want to wash off the dust after a safari trip and are not looking for luxury this place is fine.

Food at the hostel is OK, you could also hop over for an over-priced buffet dinner in Mweya Lodge, which is up-scale and offers (horrible) entertainment to guests. However, it's definitely nice to be able to sit down in a nice place if you have been roughing it up for a while.

The pictures showing the pool and so on are definitely from the lodge, not the hostel! However, this is great place to stay if you are on a budget or are travelling with friends and just need a place to sleep and hang around a bit in between safari trips / boat ride on the Kazinga Channel.

As you drive up to the Mweya Hostel you may be easily lead to believe it is a lovely expansive (and expensive) looking 'lodge' overlooking the majesty of the Kazinga Channel. And then you turn right.... to the hostel. Don't get me wrong, Mweya Hostel is a modest backpacker style hostel and more than adequate for your stay at QENP, we just found it endlessly amusing that when we thought we'd found paradise, we'd found Mweya.

Mweya Hostel is cozy and was far better than some of the other hostels we had stayed at - it had mozzie nets without holes in them, a sink in our room which was a luxury, good hot showers, a kero lamp for when the power went out during a big storm and decent food at the 'restaraunt'. Best thing - a fan in your room which we found perfect for a comfortable nights sleep!

There was great bird watching surrounding the hostel and warthogs and waterbucks wandered through the grounds while we ate - perfect :)
