“Safari”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014 via mobile

Stayed for three nights in a double room taking a tour with red chilli and i enjoyed it. The prices of the restaurant is as expected when you are kind of isolated. The snacks menu i think is better than the dinner menu. I would also try to bring my own food for the lunches when going on safaris.

That said I really enjoyed my stay and the staff is friendly and atmosphere cozy with bonfire at night. The facilities was very clean and the location is really good.

Dear Guest,

We thank you very much for having stayed at Simba Safari Camp and thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are glad you noted the pocket friendly nature of our accommodation extends to our restaurant and bar, all round we try to maintain the modest rates without compromising on our quality or service levels. As we are well aware one of the ways to our guests hearts is by making sure our food is delicious yet creative and well presented we consequently ensure our d’hote menus are dynamic. Whether ordering from the snack menu or our standard menus for Breakfast Lunch and Dinner, our guests are always free to make special requests and subject to availability of ingredients our chefs would be more than happy to spoil you a little with whatever your favorite dish – we are all here to serve you! I would like to quickly point out that we do offer a take away meal services at a small fee for those going on game-drives or for long journeys– this usually includes a sandwich with a filling of your choice, a packet of juice, a fruit and a 2 or 3 mint sweets.

We are ever so delighted to note the staff were friendly and the clean, cosy and warm atmosphere– combined with a delicious meal and a snug bonfire under the African star is the experience we wish for all our guests at Simba. And we are happy we evidently scored a 10/10 here :) We do genuinely thank you again for sharing your experience at the camp with us – we do look forward to hosting you and leaving you spoiled for choice with excellent menus all round!

This resort has beautiful, well-maintained grounds. The rooms are large, clean and solar showers are hot. The staff is very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Excellent food with great vegetarian options. Overall a high-quality lodge and would highly recommend staying here for visit to Queen Elizabeth NP!

After a 12 hour drive arriving here we were met and warmly welcomed at this excellent lodge in Uganda on the road to the DR Congo.

Rooms are basic but so is the price. Dinner was adequate. We are in remote Africa so you cannot complain about lack of variety as this is not what this is about.

WiFi a bonus and they even spray your room while at dinner to doubly protect you against mozzies. Mosquito net provided of course. Shower was cute with stones on the floor.

All in all a welcome place in remote Africa and I will be back.

Dear Eddie,

We thank you so much for sharing your warm and valuable comments with us.
We are pleased to note that you had a memorable stay with us. It is indeed feedback's such as yours which motivate us in delivering services to our best.

Established as the more pocket friendly lodge in the are we have made it our mission to focus on the element s of service that make every guests’ stay with us memorable – and we have found it is all in the little things and paying attention to detail – for example, appreciating tha our guests and the genral travelling public are miles away from home and need to keep in touch with their loved ones or with work and therefore decided to offer our guests free wi-fi internet connection at no extra charge, our standard turn down service and we have now even fitted all rooms with a fan as QENP area tends to experience the true African heat almost throughout the year. Together with our service team who are always ready to make our guests feel at hom, we trust all our will have the same sentiments – wishing to come back.

Again we deeply appreciate your feedback and the time you have taken to share this with us. We look forward to the opportunity of accommodating you again on your next visit to Uganda and leave you with only more lasting memories!

There is nothing really special about the place, it's bit up the hill from the main park but not that far away, you can't see anything from up (animals). The rooms and services were ok, the staff super kind and helpful but I guess there is a language barrier as most of the times we got something that we did not ask for. No activities at night, a place to sleep and shower.

It was a good stay for couple of nights while we were exploring the park during the day time.

Dear Guest,

Many thanks for your choosing Simba Safari Camp.

True we are no Serena – at least not yet  but we are established as a comfortable yet pocket friendly lodge. We have plans to of course raise the infrastructure and room facilities and balance the refurbishing and face lift of the lodge with maintaining a modest fee for our esteemed guests. Animal sight-seeing for lodges outside the park is limited – only the very few located on the shores of the Kazinga Channel have the added advantage of spotting an elephant or hippo. At Simba Safari camp located just on the border of the National Park – for the bird lovers in the house we have spotted a number of species right from the comfort of our lounge, these include:

Double tooth barbet
Rupell Longed Starling
Common Bulbul
Scarlet Chested Sunbird

We desire to stand out as the most customer centric lodge this side of the Sahara and your mention of ‘staff are super kind and helpful ’ has got us doing our happy dance – really this is our core value at Simba Safari Camp, as we work to upgrade our infrastructure- we are committed to ensuring our guests receive the best service making them feel right at home and well taken care of at all times. We love and have always worked with the local communities to create a sort of livelihood for them, by hiring some members of the local community and professionally train them to meet the standards of international service. This however comes with the challenge of the language barrier as you rightly mentioned, however more and more they are continuing to learn and will soon have mastered it in no time. We are confident on your next visit they will have many stories to tell you about their experiences as majority of our staff have been born and raised in and around Kasese.

Activities that our guests could enjoy in the evening by our snug bonfire would be a performance by the local community dancers from the women’s group at the lodge- very colorful, entertaining and what’s more all the funds they collect directly go back into these communities.

Simba Safari Camp proudly owns its own customized safari mini-van that is available to our guests to go on half or full day activities in Queen Elizabeth National Park during the day. Usually the day begins early as we start with a morning game drive and head to the mating ground of the Uganda Kobs. In the afternoon we take on a scenic boar cruise along the Kazinga Channel. On a scheduled 2 hrs boat ride over a 12 to 14 kms stretch of the channel, our guests are almost always guaranteed excellent wildlife sightings including, multitudes of hippopotamus (possibly the world’s highest concentration), Nile crocodiles, wallowing buffaloes on its reedy banks, elephants, multitudes of birds including many endemics as well as hundreds of other plains game that come to it for water all day long.
We would like to thank you again for having chosen to stay with us at Simba Safari Camp – and we do look forward to having the opportunity to hosting you again.

Set just outside Queen Elizabeth Safari Park this lodge sits slam bang wallop on the main Road to the Congo. Trucks hurtle past all hours of the day and night. Being on safari next to a motorway is just not much fun. The camp lacks charm with functional buildings and a boring communal area.
The gardens are attractively planted out but the staff are largely anonymous.
One to avoid I think

Room Tip: As far away from the Road as possible!!

Dear Russel,

Many thanks for your feedback and of course the pleasure of hosting you. We appreciate all kinds of feedback, most of which helps us see where we can do better and thus enhance the lodging experience for our future guests.

Simba Safari Camp provides comfortable but pocket friendly accommodation, on the Edge of Uganda’s most popular savannah Queen Elizabeth National Park with panoramic views across the park’s extensive savanna plains teeming with wildlife as well as Lakes George and the famed Kazinga Channel.

It is the closest accommodation to Queen Elizabeth’s Kasenyi plains on the edge of Lake George, the famed mating grounds for the Uganda Kobs and thus the most preferred area for game viewing drives. It is also closest to the other areas of northern QENP, including the Mweya Peninsula and the Kazinga Channel; well known for launch cruises, close range game-viewing as well as bird-viewing.

As a lodge Simba Safari Camp was not intended as a motel, with the main building at approximately 150 meters away from the road, and the guests accommodation a further 50 meters in the back therefore approximately 200 meters from the lodge. Granted, trucks heading to and from Bwera, the Uganda- DRC border town, and numerous other vehicles use that road and that being relatively flat savanna landscape means sounds could potentially travel further. Our extensive lounge area, as well as the normal day-to-day living at the hotel life sounds do not let in on too much disruption for the guests. Lately too, and increasing vegetation around and especially between the lodge and the road absorbs much of the sound at the lounge and the lounge itself further blocks much of it from the guests rooms sitting at the back of the main building/lounge.

Whilst guests stay in the dormitory rooms do not have the advantage of having the sound blocked by the main building, we have not had many complaints from them appertaining to noise from the road. The guests who occupy our 2 family cottages sitting behind the dormitory rooms possibly another 50 meters further and with expansive views to Lakes Kikorongo and Lake George in the distance enjoy even more peace and quiet.

I can understand however and apologies for your inconvenience. One can never know for sure with automobiles and I am aware that should there by any chance be some of those old generation Fiat trucks oil containers they could be rather noisy and disruptive. However, the majority of the new model trucks emit manageable noise levels.

Without being sure on when date-wise you did stay, we continue to put thought and investment in the lodge, all rooms fitted with room fan, we have a new manager on sight- bring in over 17 years of lodge manager experience and to the entire operation on the kitchen to rooms to the gardens. We are in the finishing touches of refurnishing the entire lunge area and all our staff already have name badges for easy identification and service assessment; all this amongst other developments we continue to undertake to give the entire property a face-lift.

Many thanks for the room tip which we will of course honor should our guests request, as we are determined to be a customer-centric lodge and we are very hopeful that we will not be one to avoid.

Again we thank you for staying with us at Simba Safari Camp and we look forward to the opportunity of accommodating you again in future and allow you to witness the progress we continue to make thanks to our guests suggestions and recommendations.

Stayed for two nights with the same large group as monksUK. Excellent value, good standard of accommodation and superb food. A fantastic fire pit set just for us, nothing too much trouble. The open bar/restaurant gives a real sense of being in the open, listening to the night.
