“A holiday to remember”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2014

We had a lovely 2 weeks in the utterly seductive Domaine du Cardou, just outside Puy l'Eveque, a picture perfect medieval village. We rented Gite Bellevue, which lived up to its name; very spacious, with a beautiful glazed terrace looking onto trees, well-equipped kitchen, comfortable sitting room & bedrooms that conspired to give us the best sleep ever...Even our 5 year old son slept until after 9:30!
Corinne and Annie welcomed us with cool drinks, homemade quiche, cake & jam, wine and a starter pack of kitchen stuff that was actually useful & well thought out. They looked after us brilliantly and it was very hard to leave.
We loved the gorgeous ( & warm) pool, the extensive and immaculate grounds, and the table tennis and pétanque area. The outside sitting/dining terraces gave stunning views of the valley, as well as a deer who came to munch apples every night. The surrounding area is perfect for all sorts of outdoor activities (cycling, walking, kayaking) and further afield there are many famous sites, although the 13th century church and 15th century frescos at Martignac, 2 km up the road are hard to beat.
We really did have a fantastic time & hope to return soon.

This is the most beautiful place! We had a week to fill between a couple of conferences and booked at Domain du Cardou based on the excellent reviews here on Trip Advisor. While we expected it to be good we were blown away by how beautiful it actually is. We had amazing weather for the last week in Sept (nearly 30 degrees) and swam in the beautiful pool every day. In addition to the pool our kids loved the table tennis and gym and were not bored for a second. It would also be an ideal place to visit with another family if you rented the two large Gites.

The region around Puy L'Eveque is beautiful to visit and not quite as busy (and touristy) as some similar spots on the Dordogne. In particular we loved Monpazier and Sarlat.

Without doubt one of the most appealing things about the beautiful Gites at Le Domaine du Cardou though are the incredibly warm and welcoming hosts, Corrine and Annie. They welcomed us with cold drinks and had baked a beautiful cake and tart for our first night and also provided us with a local bottle of wine and some other provisions (more than we have ever seen before in holiday rentals).

We will definitely come back again! Just cant wait for an excuse to do it.

A warm welcome included local wine, home made quiche and a cake! An ideal spot in the country with a well maintained pool and other sporting facilities. At the same time, the nearby local towns are easily accessible and offer a good range of restaurants. It is one of the very few gites that I look forward to returning to.

Domaine du Cardou is fabulous! We have stayed at 39 different gites over a period of many years and we both agree that this one (we stayed in the Gite Bellevue) is the BEST gite ever (and we have stayed at some excellent properties throughout France). We stayed there 2 weeks and hated to leave at the end of our stay - I wanted to move in for the whole summer! We received an incredibly warm welcome from the proprietors Corinne and Annie - not only did we have the chance to chat, they had prepared a delicious home-made quiche, a gateau as well as an assortment of jams and conserves made from ingredients on their property. Incredible! The gite itself was lovely - beautifully furnished and decorated and impeccably clean and well-maintained. So much attention to detail - I could go on and on about the beautifully chosen upholsteries, draperies and decorative objects. My husband likes to cook when we vacation in France and the kitchen in this gite was not only beautiful, but it had every amenity you could imagine in terms of appliances, utensils, and cooking staples. But our wonderful experience staying in the gite itself was only equaled by the setting. The architecture of the building was stunning - beautiful honey-colored stone facade with historic squared towers and stone patios with private outdoor dining areas. The grounds rivaled some of the gardens of castles we visited: flowers, lawns - even a herb and vegetable garden! Although it wasn't warm enough when we were there (a very delayed summer this year) - the large pool looked so inviting surrounded by comfortable lounges. There was also a fully-equipped fitness center (a good idea because the dining in this region is so excellent!) and a boules/petanque court. The proprietors had thought of and offered everything to make our stay truly memorable. The gite is just outside the lovely town of Puy l'Eveque, is close to excellent restaurants and is near enough to general commerce (markets, retail shops and gas stations). Location-wise it is an excellent base for touring. Honestly, I cannot give this gite (and the wonderful proprietors) enough praise!!

This charming domain is in a beautiful little valley, well away from the road. You only hear nature. Corinne and her mother Anne are warm and generous, down to the smallest details, and very discreet. We felt calm and refreshed after a couple of days. The gîtes are private and beautifully equiped. Views are everywhere. Swimming is a joy in the spacious and warm pool. Several walks are possible from the domain, short or long, with an excellent guide available from the tourist office in Puy L'Evêque, an atmospheric medieval village. Lovely quiet roads for cycling around the pretty villages of the Lot Valley. We stayed a week more than we had planned and will go back.

Thank you for your warm welcome: a bottle of "bio" wine, a hand-made cake, all little touches to make us feel at home. The hostesses were very discreet during our stay. Bellevue indeed offers a magnificent vue over the rolling hills, must be beautiful in the summer months when the sun sets much later...
