Enjoy a sail on the schooner from the 1956 movie "High Society" (with Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Dean Martin). Knowledgeable crew and great view on the lake. Served a snack and beverage on the way. Start your day with this adventure and you will still have time to enjoy Watkins Glen.

With my 10 year old grandson off from school on Monday for Columbus Day, I took him to lovely Seneca Lake, and we went for a cruise on the Malabar. Captain Larry and Mate Lisa (owner) passed around drinks as we motored away from Watkins Glen pier. Beautiful sunny day with temperature about 75, unfortunately with very little wind (3-5 knots) we motored with 4 sails up. About 5 minutes up the lake (going north), Lisa mentioned to Captain Larry that Jordan (my grandson) had a sail boat in the harbor, so Larry let Jordan take the wheel. Wow! Jordan had a great time and had the helm, with Larry's guidance, for the next hour and a half. First, we went past the salt plant on the west shore, then turned east toward Hector Falls (3 rd highest in NYS), then south and southwest back toward the Harbor Hotel and the berth of the Malabar. What a wonderful time to be 10 years old!

When planning our vacation in the Finger Lake area of NY, my spouse found information about this sailing experience offered on Lake Seneca. He contacted the owners of the company, Lisa & Josh, to inquire about it and they were so enthusiastic about their sailing schooner (True Love), we decided that we had to try it. We were SO glad that we did!

Our sailing day turned out to be one that was ordered to perfection.........enjoyable temps, low humidity, and just the right amount of wind........we couldn't have asked for more. Glenn, the captain, was a delight! He shared information about sailing the schooner, explained what the staff (Pat & Greg) were doing on our sail, and then added personal stories of his life/adventures. What fun! We were also treated to both beverages and pastries.....an unexpected treat.

The only sad part of the whole experience was that the two hour sail ended much too quickly. With the calmness of the water, the continuous breeze, and the comraderie of the captain & staff..............we wanted to sail the whole day. It was SO hard to leave that beautiful schooner.

If you are in the Lake Seneca area of the NY Finger Lakes, please be sure to remember this sailing experience. It is suitable for families and people of all ages, the cost is suprisingly moderate, and I guarantee that you will not be ready for True Love to return to the dock after the sail!!!!!!!!!!

The staff, especially Lisa, were very helpful and friendly. The sailboat is beautiful. However, the captain made no effort to really sail the ship to any great degree. We meandered, "a little faster than you can walk", up a short way and then around in circles.
We could see the dock at all times and were really not out for 2 full hours, more like 1:45 mins. So, while we enjoyed being out on the boat, it was a little boring. Oh, hum. Nothing to get excited about. We have been on other sailing excursions that have been so much more exciting.

Recently to my visit to Watkins Glen NY we were delighted to enjoy an evening sail on the Schooner "True Love". The Captain and crew were phenominal, the hospitality shown was delightful. Not only did we enjoy an evening sailing in the lake with incredible views of the area but were also served a wonderful array of appetizers included with the trip. I just cannot say enough wonderful things about this experience but one thing I will say is that this is a must-do while visiting the Finger Lakes region of New York.
