“Caywood Vineyard-Pleasant Valley Wine our new favorite”

Seneca Lake Wine Trail
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 16 September 2013

Just returned-AGAIN- from spending a wonderful weekend tasting and enjoying the many different wineries along the Seneca Lake Wine Trail. Our first stop was at our favorite for many years-Tickle Hill. Their unique flavors are what drew us to them and we also restock. (You have to try Hector Nectar-bubbleyum flavor). Our friends told us to make a stop at Caywood. They were just there the day before and loved it. When we arrived we were graciously greeted. Their Chocolate Lab wine was a pleasant surprise. When the Strawberry White Zinfandel was mixed with it-it tasted like a chocolate covered strawberry. I was sold! The case was almost half the cost of Tickle Hills. Although many other wineries were visited-it was the unique flavors of these first two that we enjoyed the most. Even though we've been on this wine trail several times, we have yet to visit them all. We will be back again soon!

Delightful motel. Wonderful setting. We had a bungalow unit and it was extremely clean but musty. Air con worked good but was very loud. Dinner not so great, perhaps we were a little late @ 7:00 pm, salad bar was almost empty and food was pretty much inedible even though we were famished, but their breakfasts more than made up for that. We chose to eat dinners when we were out wine touring. We did Keuka Lake and Seneca Lake wines. McGregor was out absolute favorite for wine (incredible red which won several awards) and views. Wines however not nearly as good as Niagara penninsula.

Stopped by the Shaw Tasting Room late in the afternoon. There was no one there so we got to talk to Steve Shaw an Steve Shaw (the son). It was a wonderful experience AND the had great wines. My husband and I typically like wines from California and these came close. We did several tastings along he trail but this way the best by far!

We really enjoyed the chocolate and wine tasting at Glenora Winery. I would also highly recommend Magnus Ridge Winery. The wine and cheese tasting was very good.

This is our second time visiting visiting the wineries in this area. The whole experience is relaxing from the beautiful lake scenes to the conversation and did I mention the great wine. My husband and I like sweet wines especially Niagara. Chateau Lafayette Reneau has the best Niagara and it is not expensive plus the view of Seneca Lake is spectacular. We also visited the Fruit Yard which also has a great selection of sweet wine, our favorite, apple raspberry. The Earle Estates winery and Meadery was a good experience as well for sampling Mead, a honey wine. We could go on and on about the different wineries, as well as the other experiences in this area. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Ithaca which is a great location for visiting the wineries and falls. We have stayed there twice and loved the accommodations and staff. We would not hesitate to go again.
