“Excellent country restaurant in new hands since Dec 2012”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2012

This is a first rate restaurant, with an interestingly varied menu, wine list & friendly service, that changed hands in Dec 2012 as I reported to you recently. It is disappointing therefore to see you have not reflected this change nor verified it perhaps with me, whilst continuing to give air to the unfortunate report of another UK reporter in May 2011 who had trouble with his "mains" and complained about getting a rustic cold shoulder, having turned up late in rural France. Could you possibly correct this? I have no axe to grind other than accuracy & fairness, like most.
PS For the May correspondent, we found nothing awry with either drainage or electricity.

“Rustic and delicious”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2012

the ambience is really rustic, but the service was "smart" but relaxed at the same time. The food was delicious , The menu may seem expensive, but for what you are served it really is not. Well worth a visit.
wish they would open at lunch times

“Great place, shame about the stressed out manageress!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2011

We were recommended this place by several local friends and so were very much looking forward to our meal, in celebration of my wife's birthday. I had booked in for 1pm but realising that we would be late, I rang ahead to ask if it'd be ok to arrive at 2pm? well from the manageress' reaction, I might well have just asked if we could bring with us a gang of Hell's Angels! "absolutment pas! C'est beaucoup trop tard monsieu!" she remonstrated.
"OK we should be able to make 1:30" feeling very much put in my place.
We arrived at 1:37pm, 7 minutes late and were given as frosty a reception as we've had in our month in France. The manageress then refused our request for a nicer table, and hung over us as we looked at the menus, pressing us to order as the kitchen was closing in 2 hours! This sense of urgency and stress went on throughout, and came to a head when they brought our mains within 10 seconds of clearing our starters. I couldn't stop myself from saying something, "please could we have 5 minutes between courses?" I asked,
"it is disrespectful to my staff to keep them waiting beyond the end of their shift" snapped to stressed out manageress as other tables looked around to see what the fuss was about.
They did eventually give us the 5 minutes, and proceeded to bring us our desert and coffee.
It was 3:15 as I asked for our bill, 15 minutes before their strictly enforced closing time. There were 2 other tables still eating, and I couldn't help but have it out with the manageress, "it was totally unnecessary to rush and stress us like you did, you ruined an otherwise lovely meal. This place, the food and the rest of your staff were all wonderful and yet you contrived, without need, to ruin it for us." With the wind in my sails I asked for the name of the owner, feeling sure in myself that he'd be grateful to hear of the unacceptable behaviour of one of his employees,
"of course you can have his details, he is my husband" our stress-puppy of a manageress replied.
Thank goodness then for the likes of Tripadvisor for the likes of me to register my total frustration at what would otherwise have been a great meal.
