“Great Location, OK Hotel”
Reviewed 12 March 2010

The Crowne Plaza sits right on the Dead Sea in Ein Bokek. I had previously been to two other day spa locations on the Dead Sea, and the quality of beach here was much better. Not as many rocks getting in, interesting salt formations within view and beneath the waters surface were round salt clusters opposed to just mud and rocks. I liked this a lot. I did not like that they kicked everyone out at 5pm when the sun was still shining bright. The pool area too. The indoor spa area with heated thermal baths stayed open a full hour later. We tried to go to the nice restaurant, but were told it "wasn't working" whatever that means. However, the big buffet we ended up at was pretty good. We attended the night show, and it was REALLY BAD, but I was surprised we had night time entertainment in the desert to being with.

Our room was average in decor and layout and the beds were a bit hard, but everything in the room worked, it was clean and the balcony was huge.

Overall, I think its a great place for a night or two on the way to other places, but I wouldn't plan a week here. We did enjoy our stay very much, and the beach was the best part of it!

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of February.

The hotel does have an excellent position and I'm sure the beach will be very nice when they have finished it. Unfortunately during our stay the beach was being rebuilt starting at 7am and finishing at 5.30 pm each day using the sort of machinery usuyally associated with road construction.
The other dissapointment was the closure of the Sato Bistro restaurant which apparently is 'closed for the season'. As my wife is veggie this was a dissapointment.

Most guests are on a half board deal including a buffet evening meal which is in 2 sittings. Thats not my preferred way of eating so we ate evening meals in the lobby bar restaurant which is fine as long as you do not want meat.

The irritating thing is that I have just checked the website and there is not mention of either the beach work or the Sato Bistro being closed SO CHECK BEFORE YOU GO!

By the way - when the hotel is busy parking is totally inadequate. Also you may come across a security guy who tries to prevent you dropping cases off at the door and tries to make you park the car first (which could be 100 yards down the road in the direction of McDonalds on a busy day). Just ignore him.

As other reviews have said, the rooms are very tired.

If you do go, a trip to Masada is a must.

Just back from a 7-day stay. This is the a second time I stay at the Crown Plaza aftrer a 3-year abscence. The hotel is definitely not a 4 or 5 star hotel. It's more like a 2-star, run down hotel despite a great location right on the beach and an international reputation of the famous chain . The rooms need new furnishings or better maintenance. Example, the upholstered headboards are filthy. Couches have not been shampood in a long time. The veneer is coming off the dressers. Same is true for the common areas, where couches were dirty and the furnishings are showing wear and tear. The Spa area isn't clean either. It used to be a nice facility but it is simply not maintained to the high standard you will find in a 4 or 5 star hotel. The food is great for breakfast, mediocre at best for dinner. Would be nice to have some fruit variety other then oranges and apples. I will not stay at the Dead Sea Crowne Plaza again.

The Crown Royal Dead Sea rose to a “3” when a manager recognized their service screw-ups and gave my son and me credit for a free breakfast. We were awoken twice during the evening by two groups who tried to get into our room. The lock system is a bit complicated so they persisted for a while. One time might be a guest mistake; two times in a hotel with several hundred rooms is a computer malfunction or check-in clerk error. The woman who checked us out was also friendly and efficient. Otherwise, the service was both indifferent and inefficient, parking was completely inadequate and the breakfast was copious, but mediocre quality.

All of which is a shame: the location of the hotel is great, among the few hotels right on the Dead Sea, the pool is quite nice and the room and balcony were large. In sum, if you’re going to the Dead Sea, look for an alternative where lousy service doesn’t get in the way of an enjoyable stay.

I am in somewhat agreement with all the other reviews for this hotel. The location of this hotel is PERFECT. The Dead Sea right at your feed and sitting on a chair out by the Dead Sea looking at the Jordanian Mountains...it really doesn't get much better than that!

The Spa at the resort really needs some clean up. Wet floors from people using the pool, not too clean inside the changing rooms. They need someone to do wipe down. Many people come for the day and the indoor pools and saunas were somewhat filled to capacity. If you come for the day there isn't that many lockers for use in the spa. There is a towel desk where you can get fresh towels which worked well between going outdoors into the Dead Sea, getting a fresh towel to go back in and use the mineral spa indoor pool.

The lunch buffet was really quite good though. With six in our party and two of us were vegetarians, there was quite enough to eat plus dessert as well. Can't comment on the poolside drinks we didn't have any. Showers outdoors within close proximity between Dead Sea and pools so that you can wash the salt off.

There is no bad room in this hotel! Every room is water front with either a balcony or huge sliding windows to open. Our room was standard except for the unusual wide plank hardwood floors. If you're not into soaking in the sea there is plenty of lounging at the pool or spa treatments. The food was by far of the best I ate in all of Israel especially for a buffet and the price. We drove through Ein Bokek stopped at a few hotels and ended up staying here based on what we saw when we walked in and the location. We wanted to be as close to the water as possible. It is a resort area so there is plenty of entertainment at the hotel if that is what you are looking for. I would go back to stay here without hesitation.

For a 13 year old hotel, seems and looks like 50 years. Service was terrible, and dirty public "changing rooms", food very "mediocre" at best. And dont drink the hotel water, per their advice...use bottled water or special sinks down by the elevators ( tho out of order the nite we were there!).....The good news, great location on the beach and great pool, esp for kids, but other hotels also have beach access,. Suggest going elsewhere unless you have lots of kids,!
