We were thrilled heading to the Masada Opera festival where we had a unique opportunity to enjoy La Traviata, event that was so well organized and perfectly managed, that when we decided to write a review on the David hotel the service contrast was extreme!
Like long time experience travelers before arriving to the David hotel, we wanted to reserve the SPA treatments making sure that it will suits our timetable. We checked the offering on the Hotel site and following that we called the SPA reception and ordered 2 Mud wrap & Seaweed at the price of 280NIS less 10%.
We pass on the fact that the receptionist (that was very kind) didn’t speak or write any English as well the fact that same morning (we reserved 10 days before arrival) she called to change the treatment schedule… when asking for the bill, to our great surprise the cost wasn’t as published (when we confirmed our reservation) it was … 340NIS less the 10%! >20% raise!!! We shared our stupefaction with the SPA receptionist, nothing to do… she said that they just changed the prices! I’m sure that you agree with me that it’s unacceptable to accept a reservation at a certain price and bill >20% more! But we paid as we were rushing to the Opera event…
As I mentioned before, we had tickets for the Opera, we paid the Hotel for HB, making sure that we’ll arrive on time to the Opera, we left the SPA receptionist with >20% above the ordered price and rushed to the dining room… a “friendly” surprise waited for us there… the waiter didn’t let us in and claimed that we didn’t pay for such HB, try to imagine, we just left one “good” surprise at the SPA and meet the second surprise at the dining room. I had to rush (as we were tight in time) to our room, search for the Hotel HB confirmation, run to the reception and asked the lady if she can read that it’s HB… so, the gate to the dining room was open. In the dining room, Sylviane told me with all her kindness and patience “we can see that there is no management in that place” indeed, it was so messy that the dinner was another bad experience.
I thought that it’s important to inform the management about the OVER billing, messy service… so we went to the reception again, the clerk told us, sorry but it’s not the hotel fault… imagine!!! You stay at a 5* hotel that publish its SPA services and their front-end (reception) claims that it’s a subcontractor that he has no say! What a shame
Last, to be fair, we had a nice room overlooking the Dead Sea great view

Room Tip: The 17th floor facing the Dead sea was nice

The place is totally abandoned, it has a great infrastructure but no maintenance at all! staff is not helpful, they are not hospitable. Air conditioning in the common area is off so you csn imagine the weather! finally, keep in mind that in order to get to the beach you need to go off the street with construction. almost forgot, free breakast is risky, food is old and rotten.

The hotel isn't kept up and out feels very outdated. The beach was under construction for expansion, but while we were there it was not in good shape. We went twenty minutes away to a public beach which was MUCH better. The pools looked dirty. There were other hotels in the area.

we were 5 families of 15 people.
check in was all ok, except for 1 family which they had to wait 1.5 hours which wasnt nice at all...
the top pool was closed...workers working and chopping trees in the middle of the day.
the only thing was good about this hotel is the salt pools inside and outside were top class pools.
food was very good too, lots of choice to pick from.
rooms were not clean at all, lots of little dirt by windows and stains on carpet, this place need a really make up all over...
bed was comfortable and the pool for children was very nice.
they don't allow children under 15 into the salt pool. very disappointing rule. I suggest they change this rule to children above 12 to be accompanied with parents.
check out was not a problem. the hotel has a very nice views all over.

I have stayed in almost all of the top 5 hotels at Ein Bokek on the Dead Sea. I have psoriasis and therefore come down every year and stay for over 2 weeks each time. This is definitely the best value for the money of the 5 star hotels here.

Under previous ownership, the hotel had become a bit run down. However, the hotel recently changed ownership and the improvements in service are clearly visible. Checkin was quick and efficient and they have now added free Wi Fi in the entire hotel, which most of the other hotels in the area don't offer (really critical for people staying long term from overseas). Food options are plentiful, and despite having to wait a bit before being seated, the food was worth the wait. Staff were competent and friendly - not typical for this area.

I highly recommend purchasing lounge access as this is the perfect complement to a nice stay here.

One area that they need to improve is the beach area...there is construction next door, and the result is that the beach is full of mud and is unpleasant. This construction seems to affect many of the hotels in the area. When I asked them about it, they said they are in the middle of building a new beach area, which will be great when completed. In the meantime, I simply drove to the public beach instead, which is 1 km away, and was great.

Room Tip: If you want the morning sun on your balcony, ask for room numbers in the 01 - 09 series.
