“Excellent 3 days stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 September 2007

Hi

I'm just back from a 12 days trip in israel. I traveled across the country and I spent 3 excellent days in the Hod hotel next to the Dead Sea. It's a few km away of Ein Gidi / the waterfalls / Massada.

Pros:
- Direct private access to the dead see. Only 3 hotels have such privilege.
- Clean, large rooms & Excellent service
- swimming pool
- outdoor bar
- Apparently renewed recently.

That said, it's not all perfect:
- Food is average and overpriced
- Never could sleep later than 09.30 because of the noise in the coridor.

Enjoy your stay
Greg

Just returned from 1 night stay at this hotel. It far exceeded my expectations and was a great accomodation, esp. for the price. Beautiful Dead Sea beach right there, lovely spa - and this hotel is smaller than the very high priced larger hotels. Excellent breakfast, fun entertainment at night, very clean - gorgeous bathrooms. I felt like a queen staying there. I recommend this hotel very highly.

My wife and I spent 2 nights at the Hod during our honeymoon and were
VERY happy with our stay. Upon notifying the desk that it was our honeymoon, we were treated wonderfully. We received a fruit basket and champagne from the manager and had a room on a high floor with a great view of the Dead Sea. The whole place was recently renovated and although the room was small, it was very nice inside. The Hod hotel, unlike many others, is actually on the dead sea. While none of
the hotels are a very long walk from the beach, it is a nice perk to walk right out of the hotel and begin your soak in the dead sea. We were there on saturday and sunday and found there to be plenty of lounge chairs available. The Spa was another selling point. The massages that my wife and I received were the best we have ever had.
So were there any negatives? Yes, but they were both minor. First, the food was fine, but it didn't blow us away. Second, the website gives the appearance that the sulphur pools are included as a hotel guest, but they are not. (they cost about 10-12 USD to use) All in all, our 2 nights at the Hod were part of a great honeymoon and we would definetely go back!

Stayed at the Hod for a night and that was sufficient. The Dead Sea is ofcourse unique, but the number of old Russians hanging in the water, or blocking all chairs in the shade with their towels without using them is not extremely attractive.
The hotel is indeed well-situated and the rooms are fine.
In the evening there is entertainment and dancing, but it doesn't bother you in your room.

Staying at the Dead Sea can be disappointing, since the hotels there are not on par with other hotels in Israel (standards in Eilat, for example, are much higher). Other problems are that most of the hotels are not directly on the beach, and weekends and holidays can make the hotels packed and terribly noisy . Since there are virtually no attractions outside of the hotel, guests tend to stay in.
The Hod Hamidbar Hotel has it's own ajacent beach, and does not really cater for children, so it tends to be much quieter than other places around as most of the guests are middle age with no children. The spa is very clean and well kept (something not too common at other Dead Sea hotels).
Rooms are average, and don't have a balcony (although there is a nice one next to the lobby), food is ok, lobby is nice and the beach is terrific.
I would recommend this hotel for couples without children, who want a quiet stay at the Dead Sea, and who are looking for a good spa and easy access to the beach.

A beautiful hotel right on the shore of the Dead Sea.
The lobby area is beautifully appointed, roomy, clean and welcoming.
The dining area overlooks the sea. Food is scrumptious. Buffet style.
Especially good is Shabbat diner.
Rooms are fairly large, clean and modern.
The hotel has multiple spa facilities and a huge menu of spa treatments.
Relatively cheap considering US prices.
Staying there was a truly relaxing experience.
At night we had entertainment such as comedian show, Israeli singers and even a fashion show. Only 15 minutes from Masada and 25 minutes from Ein Gedi Oasis.
Great value for your money.
