I had such a great time in Morro de Sao Paulo and at this lovely Pousada that it's now hard to find the right words describing it. It's runned by a german couple, Helmut & Marga, who are really really friendly. As it's located on a little hill, there are plenty of stairs, but if you see once the view, it's worth it!! This view is absolut fantastic! I'm still missing my hammock there and this georgous pool. Marga organized almost everything for me - the horsebackriding trip, the transport by boat and even all of my taxi rides in Salvador and this for a very good price! As the Pousada is called Colibri, there are so many of them and also little monkeys which you can feed with small pieces of banana.
It still feels like heaven when I remember being there. Special thanks to Marga for making my stay unforgettable!

Having travelled over the world and visited a great number of hotels, Pousada Colibri is ONE of my all time favorites as well as for my wife and even my daughter of seven. This hotel is managed as a small hotel should be managed. Congratulations Helmuth & Marga Bauer and staff of course with your outstanding product. See you next year.

I am always going back to this lovely place: a lovely peak with the absolutely best view on this island. There are many choices for lodging on the island, but none come close to Pousada Colibri for the view and absolute peace. I also must emphasize that I feel safe and rested every time I visit.
The hosts, a very delightful couple, are the inspiration and very heart of this getaway. From the delicious traditional breakfast to the pool of silky blue water and the perfect caipirinha after a long day, Marga and Helmut have not missed a beat!
The guest arrivals and departures are carefully accompanied by the hosts and the attention to detail afforded to all who stay is noted. Any request for assistance is welcomed and quickly resolved.

Helmuth and his wife Marga run this place with typically German efficiency but it retains a wholly local flavour with fabulous breakfasts and a great pool. The pousada is up 100+ steps from the dirt roads that bring you up from the middle of the town of Morro but the hotel's bellman/taxi/handyman/local expert CARLOS is on hand to help with your bags if you need - he was also thoroughly informative and friendly! The pousada provided us with great information about the local beaches and where to eat as well as arranging for our transfer from Salvador. Our room was the last one along the line of rooms and although it was basic, it was perfectly clean and functional. We can only recommend this charming place.

This island was the highlight of our 3 week Brazilian tour. A Beautiful 'quaint' island, no cars no roads, but sand tracks, Fabulous views - beautiful beaches, resturants actually on the beach and good shops. We felt very safe here, and the people friendly and charming. The 3 hour catamaran trip from Salvador was a bit rough and people sea sick. I would suggest the 20 min flight ..approx 100 AUD.
We stayed at www.pousada-colibri.com . A very private pousada high on the hill, beautiful breezes and ocean views, with a sparkling clean pool. Our hosts Marga and Helmut were very welcoming and friendly. We hand fed banana to the cute monkeys each morning. Our bungalow was spotless, the extensive breakfast delicious..heaps of tropical fruit, and homemade yummy cakes.
The donkey who carried our luggage down the hill, looked happy and well looked after!
Tip...best rates for laundry here!

I couldn't think of just one good thing to say as the title for this review so I put the key points. Pousada Colibri was the perfect pick for my boyfriend and my recent trip to Morro de Sao Paulo. We were meeting in the Salvador airport from different continents and looking for a way to arrive on the island right away. Helmut was incredibly helpful in helping us determine that we would arrive too late for the ferry, but that flying was still an option. He called for us and made the reservation - even though the company wasn't planning to fly on that day - but he arranged it so that we could be sure to arrive in Morro the same day we arrived in Salvador.

Thank god he did! I cannot tell you how amazing it was to reunite with my boyfriend in such a beautiful beautiful setting. With breathtaking ocean views and a little bungalow to call our own. All of the bungalows are beautiful so you really can't go wrong when making your choice. We went for the cheapest option and it was perfect - with a little hammock in front and the privacy we wanted. We also enjoyed the pool one or two nights after long days at the beach we would come back, rinse off, and soak in the fresh water pool over looking the ocean.

Breakfast every morning consisted of delicious breads, homemade marmalade, cheese, ham, fresh fruit, fresh juice, coffee/tea, and breakfast cakes. We would eat so much every morning that we didn't need our next meal until around 5, when we were done with the sun for the day!

As everyone mentions, the stairs might be a lot to handle. You find yourself re-counting every step as you make your way up. A few times about halfway we both declared we couldn't go any further, and then we'd take a quick break before completing our trek. But to be honest, the exercise was welcome after so much relaxation and food, and it's worth it when you get to the top. Plus the location of the Pousada puts you closer to the local, less touristed beaches which are actually more beautiful and peaceful!

Just a half hour walk along the beach (to the left when you exit the Pousada instead of heading towards Beach 2 to the right) takes you to these giant natural mud baths where we spent much of one morning - it's great for your skin, and it's also a lot of fun! Then you keep walking down the beach and there are all these little beach side restaurants with lounge chairs where we would order fresh coconuts and fresh fruit juice and water until we were ready to head back, and you can pay 3 Reales to take a little boat back to the dock at beach 1 (which puts you pretty close to the Pousada.) Depending on the tide you can walk back to the Pousada, but the boat is a nice option as well if you are feeling tired or a bit lazy.

Definitely ask your hosts for recommendations on what to do - they arranged a horseback ride for us one afternoon through the Mangroves and along Beach 5 which was stunning. If you aren't used to riding I recommend only doing the half hour trip (not the full day) since you will be VERY sore after only two hours. And wear long pants or the stirrups are sure to aggravate your legs. (Just some tips for people who aren't used to riding since we learned the hard way!) We also really enjoyed the restaurant recommendation for Tia Dodei just in the plaza (you walk down the hill, past the Large Fountain and arrive in that main plaza, the restaurant is off to the right tucked away) which had delicious food, our best meal in Morro. It's not as fancy as the big restaurants with balconies overlooking the plaza, but the food is definitely superior.

This really is the absolute best place you can stay for relaxation and comfort. We were so happy with our choice and would definitely return again to stay, and recommend it to anyone! Enjoy your trip!!

Although it's a tough hike uphill from the town, it is well worth it. Porters carry all your stuff to & from the port so no worries. Helmut & Marta are great hosts and there is a welcoming bar area where there is served breakfast (& caipirinhas) although not necessarily together!
Helmut likes a good, smutty, english joke so remember to tell him one.

Great rooms with hammoks on the balconies. Beautiful gardens. We had a wonderful stay here are wouldv return if we are ever back in Bahia.
