The location:
Three minutes from the main place of Morro de Sao Paolo, ten minutes from the small harbor (from where you have to climb up a very steep way to the main place), Five minutes walk through the forrest from the small beaches on the west side of the island (which are flooded during high tide), and 10-15 minutes walk through the small town to the first and second beach on the north-east side of the island. The pousada is situated on the edge of the town, in the evening and the night you won´t hear any noise but the sound of the rain forrest.
The pousada:
Located on a steep hillside inside the rain forrest with several small houses containing 1-2 guest rooms, be aware that every coming home is a little breath taking because of many steps to be done in the warm and humid climate. Every room has its own small terrace. Our room was small, but absolutely sufficient, simple but nice furniture and clean with well-functioning fan and aircon. The whole pousada gives you a bit of jungle feeling.
The breakfast:
Taken on a bigger terrace. They serve always fresh squeezed pure fruit juice, simple brasilian rolls, standard ham cheese, marmalade, fresh scrambled eggs on demand, and a very tasty yogurt with cereals, all in all a fine breakfast clearly above Brazilian average.
The service:
Extremely friendly Argentino, who beside of Spanish and Portuguese also speaks English, who spreads a warm and friendly atmosphere, like the other staff you may meet to the breakfast. Small problems in the rooms was fixed immediately. He gave us a lot of good advices for restaurants, beaches etc. which we found perfectly true.

All in all the pousada with the best cost benefit ratio on our in all 5 weeks travel through Brazil with a price of 90 R$ for a double room, why I think it deserves 5 stars even if the rooms and the breakfast are not luxurious.

The wife and I stayed for 10 glorious days in March 2012. We thought the rooms were comfortable, spacious and ultra-clean - not to mention the verandas with exquisite views of nature. Excellent quality no-noise air conditioner, free room-fridge + wall safe. The owner (Jose) was regularly on hand to offer help/advice or just engage in a friendly chat. Top bloke (must be his Irish blood!!). Thanks, Jose, for making our stay so memorable.

I stood with my father in Pousada Aquarela during our visit to Morro de São Paulo. The place is excellent, with good sized rooms nicely decorated with everything one might need (TV, AC, nice shower). The breakfast is top quality. José (the owner) is a very nice person, always there to ask if everything is all right and to provide help whenever possible. The location is excellent in my opinion: very close to the center of the village, but far enough to let us stay and sleep quietly among the trees. Finally, the price is very fair for what it offers (all basics with good quality without luxuries), making it an excellent option in Morro.

My first impressions of Aquarella were: like the room, not too crazy about the location-i wasn't too sure how it would feel walking back at night. However in the end we felt really safe walking around after dark. It is telling about safety that Jose feels comfortable leaving his dvds out at night!(available for guests to borrow). I really enjoyed the little breakfast terrace, a good view point to see a few birds and monkeys. Jose is a nice, chilled guy and it was nice to have a chat over breakfast and learn a little more about Brazil/Morro from someone that has moved there permanently. If you have any mobility issues it would be a good idea mention it/ request a room at the bottom of the stairs. All in all, a good choice in Morro.

We stayed at this pousada for 6 days. True the internet I made a reservation for 3 days, but after 1 night we already decided to book for 3 more days.

The pousada is situated at a quiet hill between beautiful jungle just 2 minutes from the center.
All the rooms are clean and neat with lovely few from your terras (with hammock)
They serve excellent breakfast.

My husband and I were on our 3-week South American honeymoon. We decided to visit the island of Morro de San Paulo just off the cost of Salvador de Bahia given the island's reviews. This was certainly the highlight of our visit to Salvador! We stayed three nights, but wish we could have stayed longer! Our breaths were taken away the beautiful rocks on the private side of the beach. This beach area was tranquil and we enjoyed a romantic walk along the beach...just the two of us with nobody else around. The walk from this pousada to the private side of the beach was short (about 5 min), but it was not paved and you had to walk carefully down a muddy, slippery and rocky hillside pass a quaint restaurant called One Love (named after Bob Marley). When it rains on the island the dirt path that passes in front of the pousada gets muddy. (We visited during Brazil's winter, so it rained briefly some afternoons and the island was not full of tourists. It was a trade off we appreciated as we got to explore the island without a million people crowding the beaches.) The environment was very organic and the owner that lives at the pousada is a real gentleman. Nice earthy surfer type guy who is always smiling.

This pousada is not located on the beach, but rather on a main street in the village. There are small markets on the street, so it was convenient to buy cheap bottled water and snacks. The breakfast at the pousada was very good and our room was quiet. We stayed at the very top floor and we recommend it because the view from the patio stares straight into lush green trees. The sound of birds was the only noise we heard. The room is not fancy (see photo below), but is clean. There is a small wall safe, a small 13 inch TV and DVD player (you can borrow movies from the front desk), a small fridge, and hot water in the shower. (Just be sure to ask how to use it as I mistakenly changed the settings.) Overall, for the price we paid the room was a good value.

The walk to the more touristy beaches was very short...again only 5 minutes. The stores on that side were much more expensive and there were a lot more tourists crowding the beaches. We really enjoyed staying where we did because we avoided the crowds and were in a central location to walk to all the popular beaches, as well as the more quiet private beach. We hope to return to Morro on day soon and when we do we plan on staying at this pousada again!

PS: When you arrive at the island you have to pay a small tourist visitor's tax. Also, given that there are no cars on the island, and all the roads are dirt, the locals offer a wheel-barrel carrying service. For a fee they will haul your luggage to your hotel/pousada. When you are departing just ask the front desk to call someone to haul it back. This service is worth the small fee as it hard to pull luggage on a dirt road and up the steep hill existing the port area. Also, this is who many local guys earn a living, so your participation helps fund the local economy.

Room Tip: Stay on the top floor so your balcony looks over into the lush green trees.
