“Very poor service”
Reviewed 21 March 2014 via mobile

I was expecting a very nice stay at Villa dos Corais however my expectations started to change as soon as we arrived in Morro de São Paulo. Although we had informed the hotel our arrival time and requested the pick up service, Nobody was waiting for us at the deck. Nobody was waiting for us in the meeting point. About the rooms: in mine, air conditioning was damage and we spent the whole night without sleeping. In my friend's room a whole in the bathroom ceiling causing infiltration and full of insects. We asked to tk with the manager - Mr. Cleber- and he was not available. We left our contacts however he didn't contact us to care over our complaints. We made again the complaint and again he was not available. A succession of failures for all the promises that are in the website and for the price we pay.

Villa Dos Corais has a lot going for it: the location is great; the grounds are well kept; the rooms are lovely and quiet; the hotel serves good food at reasonable prices; the drinks and food staff are polite, friendly and speak enough English to communicate with non-Portuguese speakers and/or are willing to listen to bad attempts at speaking Portuguese - it is indeed, as has been stated in previous reviews, probably the best accommodation on Morro. However the level of service from the front desk, while friendly and efficient, was a little too 'relaxed' for an establishment that charges the rates that they do. At those rates the little things need to be done right and on more than one occasion we were left stressed out and inconvenienced due to lax service.
First, having requested a cot when booking, when confirming the booking and reconfirming yet again when checking in, there was no cot in the room. Upon informing the front desk we were told a cot was put in the room that morning.... after convincing them that there was, in fact, no cot they requested one from housekeeping. Half hour later, no cot. Again we requested the cot. An hour later no cot. Again we requested the cot, this time using the correct Portuguese terminology, and was told it would be half an hour. Yes, we got the cot but it was this old metal thing with a warped base barely big enough for our 18 month old. Nonetheless we accepted it and our son put up with being unable to freely rollover for 2 nights until I saw a proper cot being removed from another room and commandeered it.
The second annoying occasion was on our departure. Having enquired 4 days earlier if they could help us with our transportation to Salvador I was told they could arrange ferry tickets for us. When reconfirming the following day I was told the the they couldn't get us on the 9.30 but there was an 11.30 ferry. This was fine. I reconfirmed again the following day and was told I needed to pay them cash for the tickets at check out. When we checked out I paid for the accommodation and cash for the ferry tickets. No less than 5 minutes after paying cash for the supposed ferry, we were informed that there had been misunderstanding and that there was a problem with the way I communicated (in English) and, in fact, the ferry as not possible so we should arrange another form of transportation to Salvador?? It was 30 degrees C, it had just rained and humid, we've checked out from our room, I've just paid cash for transport to Salvador and they're shrugging their shoulders saying we have organise our own way... Internally I was fuming but didn't want to make scene as we needed their help. I understand how things work in Bahia but if they'd just mentioned that they couldn't organise the ferry then I would have organised something my self with one of the many tour providers in the town. In the end, they did organise something for us fairly quickly which involved the hotel jeep, guy with wheelbarrow (standard on Morro), overloaded speedboat, mini-bus and rickety commuter ferry. It was a relatively smooth experience, and a venture which I would have relished with a backpack (as a backpacker), but when it's unexpected and you have an 18 month old pissed off toddler it is stressful.

Such a beautiful place. Very quiet. it's a bit of town at end of 3th beach but that makes it perfect for relax vacations. The staff is very friendly en helpful. Only they don't speak English but at the service desk they do. Good food too.
Ask for the massage ;)

this place is absolutely fantastic, close enough to easily walk to the bars and restaurants on the 2nd beach yet far enough to feel secluded and peaceful. the pool and facilities are excellent and the rooms are huge and extremely comfortable. our only regret was that we wish we could have stayed longer! make sure you bring some insect repellant because there are mosquitoes around

If you want to have a relaxing time in a beautiful hotel, this is the place. The hotel is well located in between the 3rd and 4th beach (the more quiet and beautiful ones from my point of view). You can easily go to the 2nd beach to have few drinks. It's also close to the villa! In case you don’t want to walk, the hotel offers a jeep every hour from 6 to 11pm.
The swimming pool is great, as is the food! The staff is super nice. I am the customer care agent at CAT Travel and I've never heard anything but rave reviews from our passengers, so it's not just me this hotel counts as a fan!

Wow what an amazing place to stay! But first things first, I tried to book by e-mail and as my native language is not Portuguese I wrote in English and got the response (And very short) was in Portuguese. So I had a Spanish friend write the e-mail in Portuguese/Spanish for the confirmation. 2 Days before we were due to arrive we had someone call to ask if everything was ready and they had no record of our conversation.Sorry but you must have someone who controls the booking and they should speak more than there own language! Also thou-out our wonderful stay the staff (with one Male exception) were very rude, unhelpful and NOT customer Service friendly. this was very disappointing as the hotel it self was absolutely wonderful and in such a fantastic location.

This was our favourite stop in Brazil – the beaches here are far nicer than Buzios, the town (although geared up for both local and foreign tourists) nice and the people friendly.

The hotel is walking distance (along the beach) from town and is in a lovely spot. The food at the hotel was really nice and mojitos strong! Our rooms – although pretty basic – had such a lovely position looking out over the gardens to the sea that you forget that they are not more luxurious. This is a great little spot for a quiet retreat after the hussle of Rio/Salvador.

We arranged all the transfers/hotels ourselves for our trip around Brazil and it saved us a small fortune – so we booked a flight across to the island and then through the hotel arranged the boat return.

Travel tip for the boat transfer– take sea sick tablets and sit outside if you can in the fresh air!!

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room facing the sea.
