“Luxury at the Top of the World!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 February 2014

Don't miss this lovely hacienda steeped in history from the early days of the Jesuits in Ecuador. This place is right up with the best of modern hotels in comfort, service, and excellent cuisine.
It has a very special aura about it. it is a very cozy and welcoming place. I loved setting in the big common room warmed by a huge fireplace. I spent hours gazing out the huge windows at the llama family grazing peacefully in the field beyond the well tended lawn. Two nearby snow capped mountains set the scene and added to the ambiance.
Before coming, I was a bit apprehensive about staying at such a high altitude because I do not like to be cold. Our room which had a huge (California King?) bed, quality linens and puffy comforter was excellent. The room itself had heating in the floor as well as a wall heater. We could step outside to a lawn with ancient trees. The spacious bathroom, with the dual vanity and huge shower, was the nicest we found in any of the small hotels where we stayed in Ecuador.
Maybe it is because the owners have another fine hotel in Quito that Santa Anas has the services of an outstanding chef. The staff were all well trained even the local guides that took us to Cotapoxi and to the waterfall were superb (we have limited Spanish, but we did fine).
This is a very special place. You do feel very peaceful here. You can understand why the
Jesuits chose this spot a long time ago.

I have to say that after a week in the Jungle of Ecuador the night we spent at the Hacienda Ana was absolute heaven. From the moment we were welcomed at reception to the moment we departed was perfect. The chef is excellent. Visit to Cotopaxi was an adventure but that is what we came for. The view of Cotopaxi is 500 Meters up the road from the Hacienda however all the other mountains can be viewed right from the steps of the Hacienda the views are very beautiful.
One of the best Beds and Pillows I have slept on so cozy. Great internet connection near a warm fireplace where we talked with family back in Canada,
Note: it is a bit of a drive up the hill on a cobble stone road not to be discouraged it is more than worth the drive ! I will visit again

We arrived here on a rainy day with our 3 kids (6,8,10) in august, sat around, had tea and relaxed. Food was scrumptious. Hot water bottles were brilliant! (kids still remember those!) The horseback riding was SPECTACULAR. Our guide took us to see Cotopaxi on the way there from Quito- what an amazing park!

I honestly don't understand all of the amazing reviews on tripdadvisor for Hacienda Santa Ana. There is tremendous history to the site, and the surrounding area is lovely, but in terms of amenities and comfort the hotel is respectfully lacking in my view. The hotel does not have adequate heating and our room was quite cold the entire night. The hotel tries to mitigate this by providing hot water bottles for the bed, but at $200+ a night guests shouldn't have to put up with this.

The food was fine and our concierge lovely (I wish I remembered his name), but someone also needs to tell the kitchen staff to turn down the volume on their music when serving meals. It's quite loud and dinner guests are left with an unenjoyable blend of the intended peaceful music in the dining area with the loud pop music in the kitchen.

We loved our stay at Santa Ana Hacienda and it is one of the highlights of our six weeks in Ecuador.

Everything was excellent from devine accommodations, spectacular scenery, yummy meals but most of all the warm friendly staff that made it really special. Both Emile and Patrizio were fantastic. Emile looked after our check in and everything else plus other travel arrangements and even cooked the best chicken dinner on the second night when we were the only guests there. Patrizio made sure the fire was always roaring and was fantastic on our ride - along with Francisco. It was Steves first time ever on a horse and he loved it.

Patrizio later took us to our next destination in Banos via an authentic saddlery so I could purchase some llama chaps and spurs!

We now have the perfect souvenirs to remember our wonderful stay at Santa Ana Hacienda and Cotopaxi.

The hotel lives up to its pictures and all the positive reviews on trip advisor. Our bed was the best of our trip! What surprised me the most is how out of the way it is for how luxurious it it. It was freezing outside but our room was warmed with heated floors and we were given hot water bottles for our feet by the staff. You don't necessarily need a 4x4 to get here, but the road is very bumpy. My only regret is that we arrived much later than expected and had to leave early in the morning so we weren't able to fully appreciate the surroundings.

We had a great stay at Santa Ana hacienda. Beautiful and well preserved 1700 house in the middle of the Ecuadorian andes. Service and food were excellent - thanks to our host Augusto! Day trips including trekking and Andes horseback riding are totally recommended.
