“Jungle Lodge”
Reviewed 21 July 2014

Spent several days here as part of a tour. Basically an open platform in the jungle, divided by partitions. You sleep under mosquito netting, which I found tolerable but some found constricting. Mosquitos were much less of a problem than I anticipated, since it was the start of the dry season. Food is good, which is nice since you are in the middle of the jungle and there are no other options. We had an excellent and eagle-eyed guide, Ronaldo. Most of our outings were very good, especially going to the lake with giant otters.

We had some problems with the water supply (it is a jury-rigged system with its own water tower), but staff were responsive about fixing them. The hot water is not very hot, but in this climate it is not a major issue. From your room it is quite likely to see dusky titi monkeys, red deer, etc.

A better room lighting solution would be nice: the brightest things in the room are candles, making it easy to misplace things. The floor of the bathroom consists of slats, and small objects can fall through onto the dirt below. The howler monkeys can make an amazing amount of noise, but usually in the distance. SInce the rooms are open at the top and sides, conversations in the next room are easily audible.

Dear Visitor,
Thank you for reviewing Posada Amazonas. We are glad to hear that you had a great time in our lodge and saw quite a wildlife. Thanks for your suggestions about the lights. We try to keep them low and natural in the lodge and always recommend our visitors to bring their own flash light that can be also very useful during the night walks.

In the Amazon, we stayed at Posada Amazonas created by community leaders. We were usually in a group with 3 other visitors and Silverio, our guide who conceived of eco tourism in the area and spear-headed the building of the lodge to preserve hundreds of acres of rainforest, provide jobs for his people and safe harbor for the animals. He is passionate about the protection of all. The Amazon was challenging for us in almost every way, power for only a few hours a day, wake-up calls at 4:30 to see the sunrise over the tree canopy (120 foot tower after a morning hike), unusual food like a box lunch wrapped in a banana leaf, rooms lit by candles and open to the elements. Photography was also challenging… it was always as dark as night under the canopy, and birds were often just out of reach of my lens. To put on a longer lens would mean a tripod steadied in thick mud. In the boat , we were moving. Above the canopy, clouds of parakeets, blue headed parrots, macaws, trees full of toucans arrived and departed before I could move past my awe and focus my camera. We saw tarantulas, bats, at least 3 different types of monkeys swinging along the trails with us, snails as big as my boot, hairy sloths, wild pigs and giant river otters that weighed about 70 pounds, heads as large as melons. Life there was as rich and beautiful as it was challenging. We loved it… after being in the high desert…we felt drunk…life over the legal limit.

Room Tip: All of the fabulously romantic rooms are open air in the rainforest.

Posada Amazonas was a wonderful place to stay and explore the Amazon. The open room had us a little nervous at first, but it was perfect. What more could one ask for than a comfortable bed where the incredible sounds of the rainforest surround you while you fall asleep, and you can watch monkeys play in the trees outside your window. After spending several hours mucking about in the mud, it was so nice coming back to such a comfortable and hospitable place. Our guide, Marlene was fantastic. With her help I came back from my trip with beautiful photographs. Not only did she spot wildlife, but helped me use my new camera. Needless to say we also came away knowing a lot more about the incredible world around us. Meals were quite good and the bar knew how to make a mean pisco sour, etc.

I was worried about our lodging being open to the jungle but that is what made it so special. The sounds of the jungle at night were wonderful.
The guides were excellent and very knowledgeable.
The food was wonderful!

A must see in Peru!! My husband and I stayed for 2 days and were booked through Go To Peru. Needless to say we were not disappointed! The resort was beautiful, respectful of the surroundings and enabled us to enjoy the beauty and sounds of the rainforest. Our guide, Rudolfo was informative and kept us active for our time at Posadas Amazonas! Understand that due to the respect for ecology, electricity is limited but hopefully you won't miss it! The food was good and they were accommodating to various dietary needs

Room Tip: You can upgrade to have access to more electricity if it's a necessity for you

Everything was organized, clean and respectful of nature. The lodge was more than I could have asked for - it was beautiful! The dining room especially at night, as it was lit with candles. Our guide, Armando, was pasionate, professional, playful, and had strong English. We especially enjoyed that he was native to the area and was able to share so many details with us and was extremely knowledgable about the jungle.

We went for our honeymoon and falling asleep under a mosquito net, listening to the sounds of nature was perfect for us. We love adventure!

The food was good. Rooms very clean. Great tours. Would love to go again.

Enjoyed stay. For middle of nowhere in the jungle, it was very accommodating, and comfortable. Negative reviews I've read, well yeah, the lodge is in the jungle, it ain't a Hyatt. Yes, the jungle has hills up from the river, at least your in sea level, a nice treat for Peru! Loved my guide Luis, he had a young man's enthusiasm as if he was working at the lodge on his first day. Loved it. I was so fortunate as to see a rare amazonian otter, even though it was cool temps during my visit. I wish I was a bit more comfortable doing things without the guide, everything was in an organized group, but safety first. Meals were served buffet style to the whole lodge. Food adequate not great but that's what I'd expect 2 hour boat ride from anywhere. They really do a nice job. Rooms comfortable, absolutely pitch black at night so bring a flash light, mosquito netting around the beds works perfectly! PS love love love sleeping to the sounds of the jungle, because it was coolish while I was there it was a little quiet!
