“For all train lovers.”
Reviewed 10 July 2013

On the day we travelled the coaches were pulled by a locomotive 100 years old, very helpful staff, tickets need to be reserved in advance. On our trip the train had a stop were cider and pancakes were served accompanied by local musical players and information on local history. Once at Pontrieux you had plenty of time for a relaxing lunch and visit the town before the return journey. An excellent day out and good value for money.

“The Little Train that can”
Reviewed 7 July 2013

The opportunity to ride behind a 100 year old steam train from Paimpol to Trieux a quaint village that sits on the banks of the river Trieux. The service runs in the summer (Check dates through the web) with various events and also a stop in the countryside and a house surrounded in mystery of the Sezanac case of murder and greeted by Bretagne pipes, cider and pancake. Onwards to Trieux and a 3 hour break to explore, lunch or picnic. Eventually time to return and chug back to Paimpol. A superb day and ideal for families. Our day was spent in glorious sunshine and what cannot be enjoyable riding the rails on a 20km journey behind a 100 year old steam train and not many run in France.

“Interesting Steam Train ride”
Reviewed 26 June 2013

An approximately half hour train ride between Pontrieux and Paimpol (or reverse) in Northern Brittany ( need to book in the high season, English speaking reservation clerk). Lots of opportunity to look over the locomotive and the rolling stock. The carriages were built before modern suspension systems were invented so hang on to the fillings in your teeth !!
A very pretty ride, the views along the Trieux river/estuary are spectacular, with a French and English commentary. It is NOT cheap, 66 euros one way for 4 adults. Take the regular train back for only 12 euros for 4 adults. Both Paimpol and Pontrieux are well worth a visit, so take your time between the outward and return journeys.

“Great Day Out”
Reviewed 26 October 2012

Went on this trip on the first week in September which is the last trip this season.

This was a great day out. Going we sat in a 2nd Class carriage with a coach load of French pensioners and had a great time. They made a fuss of our dog Fritz. We came back in luxury in first class ( no extra the same ticket applies). Tickets are collected by some charming French ladies dressed in 1930's costume. You can take a horse drawn vehicle from the station to the town which is probably worthwhile. There are not a lot of restaurants in Pontivy but there is a nice park with benches if you buy a picnic from the shops.

You can also take a boat ride on the river or just stroll around the streets.
