The hotel le Provence is a budget priced hotel but is incredible value for money. First of all its staff( Gregory and Bryce) . they are extremey friendly and helpful. We tend to go to the local Auchan supermarket and have a picnic style meal in their garden out back . They also let us use their covered patio dining area at the front of the building. They offered us use of their fridge microwave etc. They speak some english and ringing them up to make a booking on the phone is not a problem. The rooms at the front are ok but try and ask for a room facing the garden as you will have some beautiful views of the mountains. The cheapest rooms have a shower and wash basin only and you have to walk down the corridor to the toilet. This was not a problem as they were immaculately clean. The reason we stayed there is because the village of Gemenos is only a 20 minute drive from Cassis. We visited Cassis to get a boat trip to see the Calanques( fiord type creeks) and take in its atmosphere. The bonus of Gemenos is that 1 km from the village center is the Parc de Pons. This is a very green natural park where you can walk for threequarters of an hour each way to an old cistercian monastery. There is a lot of running water even in high summer. Drive 5 minutes above the park and there is some wonderful limestone mountain scenary. If you can find the right place to park on the road there is a great haf hour walk down to park( to Cistercian monastery)Gemenos itself is a pretty village and the hotel is approx. 15 minutes walk to the village centre.
