“5 bed room is ok, but WiFi and attitude of manager is not.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2014

Last week we stayed for 5 night is the 5 bed room. Room is ok, but too hot. An airco is a must for this price. Satellite tv gives only german channels. Many of the visitors are international guest so why no english/dutch channels? We accepted this, the only thing we indicated to the people at the reception is that Wifi did not work. Reception admitted this was a returning problem and that an engineer was called. On our last day Wifi still did not work. To our surprise the manager told us that we were wrong and that it did work all days. We tried to tell the manager that it really did not work (only for 10 minutes in all 5 days) and that our childern did check this every half hour. Reaction of the manager was that WIFI is just a service and customers cannot discuss about a free service. Unbelievable! Wifi is included just as beds.
So in the end we left this Gasthaus with a bad feeling, mainly because the not customer friendly attitude of the "manager".

Rooms well designed, but bed very uncomfortable! Handmade bed-frame made of cypress were amazing but very impractical. Food was excellent, but service is a work in progress. Staff seem to be new. Location is convenient but could use some development. Some surrounding properties look trashy, which takes away from what could be a nicer stay

Gaestehaus Schmidt is not your standard hotel, it is more of a guest house. If you go with that expectation, it is adequate for a stay near Europa Park.

The Good:
+ Less than 10 mins walk to Europa Park
+ Free parking
+ Free internet
+ Reasonably priced
+ Helpful staff
+ Largish rooms
+ Small swimming pool for a hot day (it was way too cold for us to even venture there)

The not so good:
- I had a child of 5yrs, but was charged for triple occupancy. Normally this would be free as child in parents' bed
- Sleeping comfort wasn't the best.
- Check in after 2pm only. However, you can leave your car behind at the parking and head out to Europa Park. The room will be ready when you return
- It wasn't the cleanest or the best maintained property that I came across while in Germany.

In summary, a good option if you want something basic near Europa Park at a reasonable price.

We stayed here for one night while visiting Europa Park. This visit to Europa Park was part of a long European vacation that included Paris, London, Greece and Germany. We were trying to watch our pennies, and based on the reviews of this hotel online, we decided to stay here for one night instead of one of the much nicer hotels inside the park. I hope we are not deceived by doctored pictures of a trailer-park ever again.

- You cannot check-in until 5:00pm!
- As we walked through the common areas to get to the front desk, we saw ash trays everywhere, filled to the brim with cigarette butts. Nice. All the railings on the balconies had bedding draped over them, airing out. I guess they don't wash the bedding between each guest. The patio furniture had bird poop on it. The tiny pool area was a cluttered, messy hodge podge of different furnitures.
- There was a children's play area on the second floor in a common area between the bedrooms. The furniture in there was stained, and everything looked very old and used. I would not allow my daughter to play in there or sit on the furniture.
- The towels were threadbare and worn - totally ratty.
- Our room was on the ground floor, and it was a warm day so we had to leave our windows open in order to keep the room as cool as possible. We were right next to the common area, and this was very noisy. Also, we killed several mosquitos in our room, and we all were bitten in the night.

The only positives I can report are good, reliable and free internet, and a close walking distance to the amusement park.

Would I stay here again - definitely not. Would I recommend it - definitely not.

We stayed one night here in June 2013. We hit a heat wave and Rust was 95 degrees. The staff was very friendly and we were given a quiet family room on the ground level. The beds are unique and hand crafted, but that said we had a small issue with the bars of the bed. One of them hit the middle of our back. We did manage to get a decent night of sleep by putting the comforter under us. It was a bit humid because of the hot temps. We weren't bothered by other guests or lights outside. Some rooms seem more exposed, but ours was fine. We had been excited by early reviews that said that Thai food was served there and was a big part of our decision to stay there. That wasn't the case, dinner that night was to be hamburgers and various appetizers. They don't serve Thai food. We chose to eat elsewhere. Breakfast was nice and had plenty of selection. Our kids enjoyed the pool, the slide was to hot for them to be able to use, but a having a place for them to cool down was nice. The free parking and access to the park are great. The hotel was a decent price, but the overall property could use just a bit of maintenance. I think this hotel is fine for someone visiting Europa park for a night. Best for couples, not as comfortable for families.

Pros:
-Walking distance off Europa park entrance
-Reasonable price
-good helpful staff
-free parking
-rooms have enough space for a family of 4 though not very large.
-free wifi
-cost includes breakfast

Cons:
- rooms are ready only after 1400 hrs, but u can park safely and leave ur belongings without a worry and head to the park
- bathrooms are dull
- the lunch/ dinner is average, but if u notice around, it probably is the best unless u want to drive into town

We had a good stay here... Most of the time being spent in the Park! I felt the beds to be a little uncomfortable... Probably because we came from a better guest house in Heidelberg.

Nevertheless would surely recommend to stay here as the staff is helpful and kind.
