“One of the best family holidays I have had in a long time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2014

We arrived back from a 7 day holiday on 7th August from Greece stopping at the Iris Hotel. We had read the reviews which were largely very favourable and expected to have a wonderful holiday. We were not disappointed the hotel a small 54 room hotel was wonderfully located on a hillside, a 15 minute walk took you to a small very traditional village, which made you feel you were living a little 'real' Greece. The local elderly would sit on their veranders in the evening chatting enthusiastically and laughing with one another and it was just a joy to see. They were also so friendly with the tourists and despite language barrier would help direct best they could. George the hotel co-owner would greet us each morning and clearly valued his guests. Meals were fanatastic, vegetarians and meat eaters all taken care. I especially loved the meal choices (not to much and not too little) Salads were simple, but great, (using dill a lot more so, since I got back lol) I love the traditional touch, There was always a choice of a traditional greek dishes, and as I love greek food it was absolutely spot on for us. Kids really enjoyed the meals, they experimented and found they enjoyed salads as much as the greek dishes. Chips were always on the menu, as was a pasta dish. Desserts were mainly fresh fruit or cake. However we love taking a walk to the village pataserie in the evening and cocktail bars. The room was basic, clean, infact the hotel was kept exceptionally clean. The pool area was never too busy even for this time of year, I especially liked that guests mingled and kids easily played with one another, and sharing pool toys was just a given!! It is the first hotel we have left all pool toys by the poolside and just shared and kids despite language barriers just played with one another. I feel George's friendliness subconciously encouraged this in his guests. The hotel was just a catalyst which just brought out the best in people. This made the holiday truly the best we have had in years. Recommend the hotel unreservedly. Plan to visit again next year.

We stayed at the iris from the 30th July for 2 weeks what can we say, After reading the reviews before we went we were sceptical but peoples opions are different all i can say is about our holiday,The staff were friendly and great George and Isabelle greeted us at the hotel by saying welcome leave your bags and come and get a drink (in spain it would have been oh no english)we then were allocated our room and because our daughter is in a wheelchair every think we asked for ie ground floor acommodation even though there were lifts upstairs our requests were met all the staff including Danielle,Alex,Alan the cleaners and the maintainance man were all very friendly and very helpful.
We stayed all inclusive and can say the food was fantastic breakfast was mainly the same except sausage some days then bacon others with a variety of boiled eggs scrambled eggs and omlette plenty of choice dinner and evening meals mainly contained veal pork chicken but the dishes made up were of different spices and flavour in the whole 2 weeks we never had the same meal twice and if your a veggie salads fried potatoes boiled potatoes veg were a plenty so we had no complaints with the food we talked to other brits with kids so if you want home from home ie pizza chips hotdogs burgers my advice is go to Spain,Greece has its own culture and food and our kids never complained .
The drinks were self service with beer and wine pulls and pop machines so you can help yourself from 1030-2230 even at last oreders just double up or treble sees you through till 0000
The rooms were cleaned 6 times a week and the whole hotel was kept clean and tidy and was kept nice.
Afandou village is a 15 min walk away where you can enjoy food and drink but its very quiet just ideal for us also there is supermarkets chemist souvenior shops and the locals are very polite and helpful.
We caught the bus into Rhodes town for 2 euro 50 for adults kids free and a visit around the old town is a must it is fantastic
Overall our holiday was very relaxing excellent value and will be going back we love the place

Where to start with this gorgeous greek hotel?

The staff were beyond amazing. Very very friendly, welcoming and professional. George and Isabelle are very proud and respectable of their pride and joy and this shows through every aspect. Alex is great fun at night at the bar and having Danielle there for us English lot was a nice touch too. The staff are very hardworking but also relaxed and approachable. Cannot praise them enough.

The pool and seating area is equally as welcoming. The open plan allows for guests to mingle and relax. Also, the views from this hotel are priceless, I was quite happy to sit there of an evening with headphones in and relax watching the sunset over the sea. The hotel is in a small unpopular village but is only a ten minute walk from a beach, bars, supermarket and travel links.

The no entertainment did get a bit boring but a holiday is what you make of it after all. Because of this, guests mingled easily which is nice. Also, we did find that food was highly repetitive (if you like pork, you'll be fine haha) but again, that's a personal bug. The food itself was delicious and the chef tried his best. At food times, the staff really performed and were spectacularly helpful. Another annoyance was that all inclusive alchohal was limited to one type of beer or wine... no spirits. Having said that, was okay and amazing coctails on offer for a cheap 3 euro!

The room was very very basic but it was handy to have the fridge even if all inclusive for snacks and water. I also like how each room had its own outside space which was away from the pool area so guests could choose to do as they please.

I highly recommend this hotel. Say hello to the staff for me :D

We have just returned from a fantastic week in Greece and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you're looking for a relaxing break, the Iris Hotel is ideal. It is a 15 minute walk to the lovely beach and 10 minute walk to the centre where you'll find the most amazing crepes and ice cream parlour (flavours galore). Rhodes centre is also 30 minutes on the local bus and it's a 15 minute taxi ride to the fun water park. The hotel, whilst short on food variety, was lovely and overlooks the beautiful beach with sea views in every room. The owners and staff are extremely caring which outweighs the limited food choices (although meals are tasty). There is nothing staff would not do to assist, even improvising when they ran out of Baileys and offered the 'iris baileys' as replacement (kahlua and milk). It was delicious. We would definitely recommend this hotel :)

Hi fellow travelers....well what to say? They transferred us to a nearby hotel as there was a problem with the room. It was ok, I guess. Except that the food is better at the other hotel. The hotel was clean but they have posters for the room service, how many times they change sheets (3 times a week), etc,...which happen a lot less than claimed it would (it happened once in 10 days)! When we asked about it, the manager was very defensive! We had to pay for the air con and for the internet!!!!! The worst aspect was the food really! Some days it was ok (ish) but some days we would end up eating bread and butter...as it was either cold or disgusting. It was very cheap, so we did budget for eating out if the food was so so. There is not much to do in Afandou but people are very friendly in the village especially Tessos at the Alfa bar. We would recommend Sergio's, an Italian restaurant, where we had the best meal!

After having mixed feelings prior to the holiday after reading some of the poor reviews on this hotel we (as a couple) were gobsmacked to how amazing our holiday was.
First of all the room was spotless and the only fault we found was that the shower wasn't very big and after two people having a shower there seemed to be a lot of water on the floor.
The staff were so very welcoming and made an effort to speak to us everyday which made us feel so welcome.
The food was fresh everyday and there was a different variety of meat/fish/salads, the eating area was looking across the pool area and beautiful view of the sea and surrounding area.
The pool area was clean and every night a staff member would go round and make sure everything was all set for the next day, we never struggled to get a sun bed as there was plenty of them.
The nightlife was brilliant if you want a nice and peaceful holiday, the village is a 5 min walk away from the hotel, there was a few nice restaurants and bars, there was also a very nice ice cream parlour with so many flavours (some you wouldn't even imagine)
Also the all inclusive drinks were brill, with a self service beer pump, wine pump and fizzy pop you cant go wrong!
we would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody whether you are young or old this is a perfect hotel for a great price!
