We booked this holiday last minute, On arrival the hotel was everything we expected for a budget hotel. Rooms were basic but clean, cleaned daily with clean towels were provided daily, we had a very large balcony. We would recommend that you get the air con, as the room gets very hot.
The staff were all very helpful and very friendly and nothing seemed too much of a problem for them although tassos the manger did not seem to speek to me much after i told him his singing on the greek night was bad..LOL
The food in our opinion was better than expected for an all inclusive, drinks were fine, we didnt find the one glass system a problem as why would anyone require more than one drink at a time.
The bar area was extremely hot and the outside seating was on my opinion extremely small and compact, which was a let down the the hotel. The resturant was ok for breakfast, but for evening meal it was a shame as personnally as we like to sit outside when on holiday. The pool area was on the small side, however there was plenty of sunbeds available, so early morning reserving wasnt required like in most places. The pool bar area was plesent and personnal i would like to have eaten all meals there.

Generally the hotel atmosphere was very plesent, we generally keep ourselves to our selves as we are shy and quiet people, although we did meet some very nice people and if you did want to meet people you could do so easily at this hotel.

Out and about, the views from the hotel were beautiful of the village and surrounding area, the hill down to the village and the beach was steep but it was short, but we didnt find it a problem.
The village has a few bars and resturant, it was very small and compact but beautiful and friendly, the peoples bar was good. There was regular buses and taxi's available if you wish to explore further.
We would recommend a visit to 'Anthony Quinn's' Bay, which is located next to Ladikou beach is beautiful and not to far from the hotel about10 mintues by taxi.
We wish the Greeks well with their economic problems as they are hard working and have a beautiful country

Stayed at the Rodos Star. 4th-18th July 2012.
First the good news.
Overall cleanliness is good apart from the pool which after the first week, became a little murky.Maid service every day and they did a good job.
The location is good if you are looking for a quite place to relax, but not suitable for anyone with mobility problems.
The apartments are quite spacious, with the exception of the bathroom which is not suitable for those inclined to cat swinging.
Plenty of wardrobe space and the beds are reasonably comfortable.
The rooms are all fitted with a fridge and A/C payable locally 7 Eu/night.
Also a safe is provided, once again payable locally 25Eu for 14 nights.
The food was quite nice, although became a bit repetitive after the first week, but thats the norm for AI.
Plenty of sunloungers round the pool and also on the grassy area round the back.Incidently this is the best place if you wish to avoid the incessant music played around the pool.Plenty of trees in this area to shade you from the 40c temperatures at this time of year.
Another good point is the friendliness of the staff, they make you welcome from the moment you arrive.
The beach is very nice, shingle and the water clear as a bell;the only problem being that it is 3Km away down a very steep incline. It took us 20 minutes to walk down to the beach and 30mins to walk back up.Not recommended in temperatures so high.
My main bugbear with the place is the bar set up.
Once you have obtained your first drink, then in order to get another you must return your glasses to the bar. This is to ensure you cannot stock up with drinks at the last orders. 11pm.You can drink the "cocktails" all day and all night safe in the knowledge that if you were for any reason to get breathalised you would pass with flying colours.
If you want a decent drink, then go down into Afandou and drop in at the Life bar.Yianni will give you a warm welcome and play you some good music
For those with kiddies, please be aware that no snacks, or ice cream are available between meal times.Nor did I see any sign of a kiddies play area.
Basically the accomodation is full board with "drinks " provided.
We have stopped in AI hotels all over the Med and this place didnt tick any boxes for us.
Would return to Rhodes, but not this accomodation.

Room Tip: 3rd floor room 316

Just returned from the Rodos Star,

The Hotel was clean and the food good. Plenty of choice for anyone.
We did hear a few people complaining but they must live on chips and ready meals.
More outdoor space is needed for drinking in the evening as the indoor bar does get vey hot as Tussos doesn't put the A/Con on regulary.

Our room was typically Greek, very basic but also very clean. The only gripe we had was our bathroom. (I think we has the worst one out of all the rooms) It was multi coloured (pink & white) with a cracked sink and the shower holder didn't work.

The pool was cleaned every morning, however one day the filter and pump packed up making it very murky but being fair to Tussos he got it sorted that day. Sun beds were easy to get as they were plentiful plus we had no Germans reserving beds with towels the night before. We never went down to get a bed before 0800.

The staff were absolutely fantastic really polite and friendly. A big shout out to Yawanna & Mouska, Mimi and Addy. Without whom the place would grind to a halt.

The little incline "Cardiac Hill" as it's commonly known was O.K to walk down but I wouldn't recommend walking up it in the miday sun!! Walking to Afandu only took about 10 mins and once there you had a choice of bars, shops & restaurants. Would recommed Danielle's lovely Pizza and the peoples bar by the town hall was nice, the owner was mad doing magic tricks keeping guests entertained. (Plus a large draught beer was only 2 Euro.)

Thanks two everyone we met between 07/07 - 21/07. We had a great time. Paddy & Deborah - Danielle & Matt - Keep intouch.
Andy, Rach & Amber.

We stayed at the Rodos Star Hotel between 7-17 July. On arrival we were welcomed and checked in efficiently and offered a toasted sandwich as we had missed lunch. Our room was basic but comfortable with clean towels provided daily.
The pool is small and can get quite busy but was refreshing in the 40+ temperatures we experienced. If you want a sunbed you should get there early(only to be expected) although even on days when we went out all morning we usually managed to find 1 or 2 when we got back. Ady worked like a trojan in the bar making sure everyone was served quickly. The food was fantastic with plenty of choices and the 2 girls that worked in the restaurant were always happy and polite and worked extremely hard. In the evenings we had bbq, a Greek night and karaoke. The rest of the time the barmen (Nick and Ady) kept us entertained with thier banter and choice of background music. If you want to go out, the beach is beautiful but pebbley and the village is small but friendly. There are buses from the village to Rhodes Town, Faliraki and Lindos and taxis are reasonably priced too. The hill back to the hotel is steep but managable even in 40+ temperatures and on some days we managed it twice.
Tassos and Moska where always around ckecking everyone was okay and most mornings Moska came and chatted to us while we waited for the rest of our group to arrive ready for a day out. On our final day Tassos and Moska made a point of coming to say goodbye with friendly hugs and kisses and Moska even waved us off as we left on the coach. The holiday was great value for money and I would definately consider going back.

Just returned from the Rodas Star. The hotel is at the top of a very steep hill so not suitable for those who are not fit and healthy. It may be easier in a cool climate but in 40+ degrees it is a killer.

We arrived at the hotel to be told that our room would not be available until three days later. In the interim we were accommodated in a small bed and breakfast establishment across the road, run by the hotel manager's brother. The room there was adequate but contained none of the facilities we expected e.g. fridge, television, hair dryer. The inconvenience of having to unpack and then pack to move to our hotel room, and the walking backwards and forwards in the heat for meals etc was off putting.

We were particularly annoyed to discover that some guests who arrived at the same time as us had only booked the week before yet were accommodated in the hotel whereas we had booked in March and were relegated to the over-spill area! We couldn't fathom out the rationale for this.

The food was repetative but generally good. The rooms are very basic and one of the beds in our room was really unfit for purpose. It was very lumpy and should well have been replaced. We discovered from talking to other guests that they too had experienced similar problems.

The bar staff and waitresses were very polite and helpful and worked incredibly hard.

The hotel is off the beaten track and would not in our opinion be suitable for young people. There is hardly any entertainment apart from a weekly visit from a greek dancing troupe and one night of Kareoke.

Room Tip: Rooms on side of hotel, second floor with sea view.offer the best option

We booked this hotel for five of us,a family room for three older teenagers and a double room for myself and my husband as a last minute booking at our local Thomas Cook. When we arrived home after booking I read a lot of the reviews on here that were negative and was really worried that the hotel would be really awful! .... We flew out with stragetic airlines chartered by Olympic holidays. We arrived and easily found the olympic coach for what the rep told us would be a 30 minute transfer to Rodos star hotel, this 30 minutes turned into a 90 minute trip which would of been ok but it was 5am before we arrived at the hotel!
We were greeted by Tassos who was very pleasant and could see we were tired and checked us in swiftly and with no hassle. We were told the meal times, given the option of air con which was 7 Euros a day per room
Our rooms were very clean, bathroom was clean with a bath and shower over it, plenty of clean towels (Which were not soft and fluffy but rough and dry...Fantastic to see they were outside line dried in the day along with the bed sheets, environmentally great and so fresh and a fab exfoliation!!)
I would say that you need to bring towels for use by the pool as you are not allowed to use these due to the amount of suncream that makes them difficult to wash (understandable really). We bought some from the hotel shop at 8.50 Euro's but you could get them for around 5 Euro's at a lot of places outside of the hotel.
Meals were at set times for breakfast and lunch (7.30-9.30 Breakfast, 12.30-14.30 Lunch) Breakfast was a buffet in the dining room, lots of choice from fruit and yogurt to hams, cheese, bread, cereal, or a full english with either boiled eggs or fried but one day we had scrambled which were very good ! Lunch was again buffet, served by the pool and was always very good! Lots of choice. Hot meat dishes and a veggie option, great salads, feta cheese and breads, amazing water melon and ice cream was available everyday.
Evening meal was served at 19.30 most nights, although on one evening we had a bbq by the pool that was served at 8pm and on Greek night it was 8.30. Again buffet style with a good choice and very tasty!! I am shocked on here to see people complaining about the food, we had three very fussy teenagers and they all loved the food! I can only imagine that people complaining about the food must live on tinned or ready meals as it is all very fresh greek home cooked food!
We ordered lunch baskets to take out for the day and this was cheese sandwiches and biscuits, it wasn't great but it kept the kids happy in the back of the car. In hindsight, it wasn't ideal to take out as the heat at 40 degrees meant it wouldn't have lasted until lunch time.
No snacks were served during the day, but we didn't really need them. I can imagine small children would get hungry between lunch and dinner though. The hotel shop did sell crisps and snacks so that was an option.
The hotel was on a steep hill which if in the UK would of been fine but it is the hot weather that makes it difficult to climb, we did it one evening and it wasnt really that bad!
The local beach at Afandou was very nice not really a pebble beach but not sand. It was kind of half and half. Sun loungers on the beach and nice amount of cafes, resturants and shops
We wanted to see more of the island but travel options were difficult as there were five of us so two taxi's would of been needed. Buses are not reliable and with it being so hot we didn't want to be waiting at the bus stops for hours and travelling on a crowded bus.... We had a chat with Moska the manager and she arranged a hire car for us for 30 Euros, which was a lot cheaper than taxi's and less hassle than the bus. She even drove my husband to pick the car up as they are normally ordered the night before and brought to the hotel for you in the morning, but as usual we left it until the last minute!
We visited Rhodes Old Town, with a lovely harbour and market stalls, well worth visiting!
We also, on another occasion visited Lindos and swam in the bay with fish swimming around us in the clear water! This was amazing but you need to be fit to walk down to the beach and up the steep hill back up. We took the car right down to the beach front but had to do a bit of wheel spinning to get it back up the hill!
All of the staff at the Rodos Star were fantastic and always pleased to help us!
I would definitely go back again and recommend this hotel to anyone!
