“Marmite - you either love it or hate it”
Reviewed 23 August 2010

We stayed for two weeks in this hotel and yeah sure the hotel room was a little bit cramped but you don't spend too much time in your room anyway so we didn't find it that much of an inconvience. The staff are amazingly friendly and seeing as they mostly work all day it was a shock to recieve such a good service from them 24/7. Even the bar staff, Nic and Julian, who had to deal with rude children were still happy to serve customers. The area was lovely and the town is close by. The hill however is a lot more steep then you would realise so if you do decide to travel on foot rather than a cab do travel after 2o'clock as it would be a lot more cooler at this time, although it is perfect exercise for you to work off all the food that you eat there. There is alot avaliable and it does vary from time to time. They have entertainment such Greek night and karaoke which everyone can get involved in. The pool is clean and there are loads of sunbeds avaliable. It's a good holiday for people with younger children as the kids can spend the day in the pool and the parents can sit laze about all day. It's a good place to relax and they do make you feel very welcome. I think many people do forget that this is a 3* hotel and compared to some of the reviews for 5* say in turkey, this is a blessing. Faliraki in near by so those who are older teenagers have some entertainment in the evening, you can get a cab there and back. All in all i think it was a good holiday, a nice place to relax and worth the money you pay. But like the title says, you'll either love it or hate it, but i think it's worth the chance to find out.

Family run hotel , we were made to feel like part of the family from day 1 . Food was simple but delicous and a different selection every day . Room was clean and comfortable .
Fantastic for kids , pool was lovely , Greek night was a good laugh .
Hill was a bit of a killer , but when you got to town it was lovely , locals so freindly , a proper Greek village .
We highly recomend the Rhodes Star , it was a fantastic holiday .

Thassos the owner of Rodos Star is a nightmare if you are travelling in female only party.
I visited Rodos star with my daughter and from the moment we arrived Thassos could not keep his hands and lips away from her ( daughter is 30) When talking to other women travelling without men they said the same.
Thassos needs to realise that British women DO NOT want to feel uncomfortable and intimidated whist on holiday.
We called Thassos sister (manager of the Rodos Star) THE COMMANDANT. At breakfast time I asked a waitress if I could fill a small bottle with water and she said Of Course. COMMANDANT caught me and told me off in front of the whole of the breakfast room. She said that if every body filled their bottles with water there would not be enough to go around. I felt very angry about this as My daughter and I had been put over the road at Helgas Paradise which belongs to George the German (lovely, lovely gent).
One evening my daughter asked for 2 lagars (helf pints only) and was told that she could not have 2 as there would not be enough to go around if every body had 2 !!!
The rodos star is NOT all inclusive It is full board with very diluted drinks available.
Thassos has a very unprofessional attitude towards his staff (shouting at them infront of guests)
We met some wonderful and friendly guests and If a good pint of lagar or a decent gin and tonic etc is required go over to Georges bar at Helgas paradise. Also we used the pool at Helgars Paradise every day as it was very quiet and extremely clean with plentiful sun beds and parasols. Only problem is you have to carry drinks over from Rodos and we were told after 5pm we could not do this !!! (however we managed but felt like criminals doing so as we had to hide the drinks)
We called the steep hill up to the rodos start "heart attack hill".
The temperature got to 48c on a couple of days and air con is a must to survive.

This hotel is good value for what we paid but Thassos and his overpowering sister spoilt what could have been an excellent time.

We visited the rodos star Aug 2010 for a relaxing break. This is exactly what we got, We met some great people and made some new friends. This is only a small hotel so it doesn't get busy or rowdy, you can always find a sunbed by the pool and mealtimes were relaxed and friendly. The food was good with lots of choice although it did tend to be the same most days but there was always plenty of it. The village of Afandou is very near although the Rodos Star is set on a steep hill which means you have to climb back up it if you visit the village. However Taxis are available and only charged 5 euros to bring you back. The staff are great and very welcoming, owned by a brother and sister who were very socialble and helpful. The bar during the day was manned by Julian a great young guy from Romania who was brilliant with the kids, All the staff were good and worked very hard but never complained and always seemed happy.
The Rodos Star is ideal if you want a quiet relaxing break , The rooms are basic but clean and tidy, The restaurant is very nice and well laid out, the pool is adequate and always seemed clean, there was a problem with water frrom the pool making the floor very slippy in the bar which is where lunch was served and Tassos(owner) did get a bit irrate with the kids constantly running in and out. I would suggest perhaps some signage may be useful to help remind the kids. Overall we had a very enjoyable holiday.

as a family who travel abroad every year i can make this statement confidently! From the minute we arrived the staff could not do enough for us! On one particularly hot day at the pool bar the owner noticed that my husband was uncomfortably hot so insisted the staff rolled up the sides to the restaurant area, to make it cooler. This is a family run hotel and as guests you are made to feel part of the family.
Food is excellent, fresh and varied. I was impressed that every meal had a fresh vegetable(even sprouts!) available. Desserts were lovely and I don't usually like these!
Drinks are available to 11pm as part of AI package. After this you can pay for them if you wish to. Would recommend the wine..the best we have tasted on an AI holiday. Bar staff are great..especially with the children and Julian played my daughter's CD at the pool bar when she asked him to..he's an absolute star!
Rooms were cleaned daily and towels and linen changed as needed..I left dirty ones in the bath and they were changed(means that things are not being washed when they don't need to be)
If you have a late flight(as we did) you can keep your room until 6pm on the day for 20euros. Would love to return next year.

This is the 1st time I have been all inclusive and this hotel is fantastic for a 3 star, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food is good and the drinks even better. Already booked to go back next year.
The only downside is that the hotel is on a steep hill.

First time we have done All Inclusve and for a 3 star hotel you really could not fault it.
Food was varried, plentiful and Greek but there was something for everyone. I especially enjoyed and constantly raved about the gherkins much to the amusement of my family. We definately needed the air con as it was 38-39 degrees when we were there and very humid for many of the days. Everyone who worked there was very friendly and helpful. Julian the bar man at the pool and the two young Romanian waitresses worked very hard but were always smiling. Cleaning ladies lovely and friendly. Muskoula and Tassos brother and sister who run the hotel very friendly and helpful always checking if you are ok. Thassos always comes and chats to you during meals times. Muskoula sat and had a well earned ice cream break with us. Greek night was terrific while we were there. Lovely BBQ plenty of food. Greek dancers were great mixture of dancing and humour had us all in fits. Got called up to do most of the dances which was fun. Made lots of friends as you see people at meal times and get chatting with them and spend evenings having drinks together. Went down to Scala Bar at bottom of hill on a few occasions 2 very friendly brothers run it. They make you very welcome.
The hill is steep but it was a great talking point and it did provide some much needed exercise. We thoroughly enjoyed our week there and were made to feel like part of the family. Very good value just remember it is a 3 star hotel and we defiinately got what we paid for and it was money well spent. I would recommend a taxi from the airport as it is only a 20 minute drive and cost us 31E money well spent as we did not have to hang around for transfers.
