“Disappointment and lowlowlow hostility”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

I do not know how people do not know how to take advantage of the beauty that they have.
My fiance and I booked a hotel through an agency in Croatia. We came to accommodation 22/07/2014. some lady greeted us with a cutout face like she saw our booking for the first time. Angrily, he spoke in Greek and threw us the number of rooms 103. I had to make it even ask where to go. Very inhospitable. SO The "hotel" has 2 buildings- one old and one new.
In the room- a new disappointment. Room 2x2, wooden beds that creak when you look at it, the sight of clean sheets. The walls were full of fingerprints of the batle Killing mosquitoes. Nice balcony but you cannot be on it because there are a lot of mosquitoes. No mosquito nets in the room. How AC costs 50 euros per week, but in village you allways have wind, we thought that you can sleep without it- we decided that we do not pay for AC. Wrong. Overnight the mosquitoes are entering with the wind in our room and we needed to buy spirals and mosquito spray. The maid came every other day and changed only towels. Sheets were each time looked worse- not changed. Breakfast-six days the same (hard croissant, egg, 4 cheese steaks and 4 slice salami that you burp like a pig after that, jam, coffee and juice) . Breakfast is served by grumpy gentleman without any kindness. My disappointment was sooooo great, so I contacted the agency. The agent called the hotel a couple of times and asked them to move us into the new building when they have unleashed room. It never happened. In fact, we realized that the new building housed the majority of Germans, Swedes, Norwegians ... everyone else in the old, poor accommodation. My impression is desperate and can not believe that someone dont know appriciate the treasure that they have. The most beautiful beach in Rhodes is a 10 minute walk, a town 20 min walk. The only positive in all is the POOL!
So if you are not german, sweeden, norwegian, etc...you will be disappointed.

I have not noticed that people love their family business.
It is better to close the hotel if THEY think behave to the guests like this.

In my whole trip through Greec- this is the MOST UNKIND AND UNPOLITED staff ever.

Room Tip: Take a battle for the new building room if you dont want to stay in an old terrinble one! Be right-o...

a real greek place, with olive trees all around and a large pool running. just a few meters to get the bar in the shadow. People who are coming back are pleased and come, and come again.
I came for the first time in 1983 and now I am a member of the family. fair family working hard and smiling, asking for any demand. rooms are wide, air conditionned with a fridge and a furnishered balcony. only two levels, quite place, close to the beach of Afantou and the golf. Easy to have a diner in the village with a lot of nice adresses. a good address for ever!

Room Tip: every room is quite, no trouble with air conditionned, you choose yourself

arrived at this place in the early hours of sunday 26th august no one there to greet us rep had to go looking for the owner got into the "room" no electricity, bathroom was like the black hole of calcutta i refused to unpack and at 9.00am went to get something to eat, a bun, cheese, ham and a boiled egg this in my mind is not bed and breakfast, my husbands egg was raw.
stayed in the room until 12.45pm went to the greeting meeting and imediately asked to be moved and explained to the rep why,had to pay to be moved i had to do any thing to get away from that dump, it was so far from anything, even the tumbleweeds didnt stop there owner was miserable and like previous visitors have stated wasnt fussed with the English, conversed with every other nationality, but was not fussed with the EnglishI wouldnot recommend this place and would say if youhave booked make sure you look for the place before you finalize

we arrived at the hotel for a one week stay, on first impressions i wanted to get on the next flight home.It was all overgrown with a small dog tied to a tree as soon as you walked down the driveway. After a day there i felt a little better it was nice and quiet but there was nothing to do within easy reach of the hotel, no good for teenagers i thought.. The best thing about the hotel was the swimming pool, but you had to be very careful as the steps into the pool were very slippy and i fell bruising both my arms badly.
Breakfast was the same every day served without smiles or politeness. Every evening the family who owned the hotel had quite a few family or friends around and it made you feel you were intruding because they always sat in the bar area. On the last day we were expected to vacate the rooms at 12, at 11.30 the maid knocked the door and i asked for another 10 mins she huffed and said ok but didnt like it. There are 2 parts to the hotel the back appartments are larger and have fridges but at the same cost as the front block.

  • Liked — the swimming pool because it wasnt crowded
  • Disliked — it was set on a main road leading to nowhere, had to catch buses or taxis

Arrived at the hotel on Sunday 12th August 2007. Room was dirty asked for it to be cleaned and was met with a frosty reception from the owner.

Breakfast wa the same every day, bread roll, ham, cheese and no smiles. Couldn't eat the breakfast last couple of days as so tasteless.

Air con was an additonal 50 Euros for the week.

Things went missing from peoples room when the cleaner had been in, when approached she went mental! Then the family who owned the hotel went mental.

Hotel not too bad, quiet, nice pool. The family favoured other guests, manily Greeks, had no time for the English who were all well behanved couples and couldn't work out the owner and his family.

Afandou was OK, no pavements on the walk into Afantou, the walk took about 20 minutes in sensible shoes, longer in heels.

Had to leave rooms at 12noon on the Saturday 18th August coach didn't arrive until 4am Sunday morning. Paid an additional 30 Euros to keep the room until 9pm, then had to sit on sun loungers until the coach arrived. The family went mad and starting shouting when other guests asked to put their bags in our room.

All the English guests called the owner Grumpy and the family and cleaner were very unhelpful couldn't give a toss attitude could almost spoil your holiday.

Would never go back and feel sorry for all the holiday makers arriving as we left.

Just got back from Hotel Despina which we booked as a last minute getaway for a good price. The hotel rooms were clean and tidy (although they have no double beds just two singles pushed together!) and the pool was nice. There were several issues however 1) the hotel is a good 15min walk from Afandou centre and part of the way there are no pavements.
2) you pay 8 euro a day for aircon 3) the maid is absolutely terrifying-will smoke in your room (even if you don't smoke), will hassle you out of your room even if you ask her to come back the next day because you want a lie in, and, from the experiences of other guests will probably steal money and cigarettes.
4) Breakfast is an odd combination of bread roll, ham, cheese, bolied egg, cake and honey 5) they favour considerably their German guests and are on the brink of being downright rude to English guests.
5) If you need to keep your room on longer don't expect them to let you know before departure day if you are allowed. You will pay 20 euro to keep the room on til 8pm BUT do not offer to share that room with other guests as we did or they will shout at you a lot and post lookouts around the apartments to ensure you don't cheat and let other people up to your room for a shower.

All in all for the money the facilities were fine and the walk into town does not seem too bad as long as you wear sensible shoes and are relatively fit and healthy, the holiday was marred considerably however by the hostile nature of the family who run the hotel ( we were the first English tourists to visit and were not badly behaved so I can't see why they disliked us so much), this was also the excperience of the other 6 English people who were there at the same time.
