“Fantastic apartment, exceptional host”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

We stayed here for 11 nights and had a fantastic time. Afroditi is an amazing host, who goes out of her way to ensure you have the best holiday possible. The day after arrival she sat down with us on the balcony with the map and gave us ideas of places to visit, best beaches and restaurants, all of which made our stay that little bit extra special.

The apartment is cleaned to a very high standard, the bed linen and towels are changed every other day and are of high quality. The bed was also one of the most comfortable hotel beds we have slept in. The sun beds around the pool are wooden with comfortable padded matrices on them and whilst we were there the pool area was empty most days, there are only 7 apartments and most people were out and about so were just using it towards the end of the day. We took wine up to the pool and it felt like it was our own private pool!

The apartments do not get the afternoon sun, but the pool is in the sun all day. There are 2 apartments that have sea views, they also face the road. We had the middle floor with sea views and although you also faced the road it was nice to look out to the sea or harbour. You could also see the sea from the bed, which was lovely in the mornings. If you do not want to face the road there is a lovely 'garden' apartment which is off the road to the side.

Agia Efimia is very pretty, especially at night when the boats are in and all lit up. The apartments are about 2 minutes walk to the village and all of the restaurants. There are 2 lovely bakeries in the village for you to get your breakfast rolls or croissants and also 3 small supermarkets. There are around 7 or 8 restaurants overlooking the harbour and 3 or 4 bars. We were surprised at how reasonable the restaurants and bars were, only €2 for a large beer, €3 for a cocktail and the average meal was around €8. You could get a lunch deal with something like a prawn or greek salad or chicken pita and a small beer for only €4. A couple of evenings when we had had a large lunch, we shared a huge seafood platter for 2, which came with 2 large glasses of wine and that was €14.

One of the things we loved about the location of the apartments was that it was in the centre of the island which meant that you could travel to anywhere on the island in around 45 minutes. There are 2 really nice beaches within 15 minutes drive, one being Myrtos Beach which is in the top 20 best beaches in Europe and also Antisamos Beach with free loungers and sun umbrellas. The beaches in Kefalonia are mainly shingle or pebbles so don’t expect fine sand. We actually spent most of our time on the small coves which are dotted along the coast just outside the Agia Afimia, there are probably around a dozen small coves along the road, accessible by steps cut into the rocks. They are beautiful and in our opinion much nicer than the large beaches. We went most days and found a cove which we had to ourselves all day, we took lunch and just chilled. If you ask Afroditi she will give you a beach umbrella and roll up mattresses to use whilst you are on the beach. We kept ours in the car and gave them back at the end of the holiday.

Kefalonia was the Greece we remembered from 25 years ago, the people were friendly, there were no night clubs, no large groups of teenager’s sight and it was not over touristy. One thing that did surprise us was that most of the tourists on the island seemed to be English. The only time we came across other nationalities was when the cruise ships came in, other than that it was mostly English couples or families with small children.

If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing holiday, with restaurants selling good simple food, and boutique style accommodation with a host that goes out of her way to please, then you will not be disappointed by the Greka Apartments.

Thank you Afroditi for making our holiday so memorable.

Room Tip: Sea view is nice, top floor is the best views. For a room not facing the road the garden apartment w...

Having just returned from a 10 day Holiday at the Greka Ionian Suites , we cannot recommend this place highly enough.Afroditi made us feel extremely welcome and with her local knowledge, we were able to visit places and beaches we wouldnt otherwise have known about.OurApartment(Kefalonia Suite), was fabulous. Extremely clean and the views over the harbour magnificent.Agia Efimia is a pretty fishing village with a good selection of tavernas and shops. the apartments are just around the corner from all of these.Food in the Tavernas was excellent and the surrounding area, which we explored by car was breathtaking.
Thank you Afroditi for your hospitality. We hope to return some day.

Where to begin? The accommodation was superb. Beautifully furnished and cleaned every day with fresh bedding, towels and even bathrobes provided. We had booked the garden view apartment which had a lovely large terrace, then at the beginning of the second week, the owner,Aphroditi offered to upgrade us free of charge as a room with a sea view had become available. The views of the harbour were stunning and although the room faced onto the road leading down to the harbour we were not bothered by traffic. As for Aphroditi herself, we have never met a more helpful accomodation provider. Nothing was too much trouble and when she saw we didn't have a car, she took us in her own car to Antisamos Beach which is a beautiful beach about 15 mins drive away then she picked us up again and refused to take any money for petrol. On another day she had promised to take us to the Melissani Caves but because she was busy had her handyman take us as she didn't want to let us down. How many accomodation owners would do that? As for Agia Efimia, it is the most beautiful location with little white pebbled beaches, turquoise blue waters, lovely tavernas on the harbourfront and the friendliest people you are ever likely to meet. Don't go to Agia Efimia if you like nightclubs and amusement arcades; you won't find them. What you will find is the most relaxing chilled out holiday you are ever likely to experience. We don't tend to go back to the same place twice, but next year we are not only returning to Agia Efimia but we are staying with Aphroditi again. Only difference is next time we will be hiring a car; you definitely need one if you want to see the rest of the island.

Room Tip: Beautiful views from the rooms at the front but the garden room is nice if you like a bit of shade i...

Lovely clean apartments in a good central location on the Island. Small selection of shops, bakery, restaurants (Paradise Beach Restaurant was the best) etc just down the road from the apartments. Apartments are within easy reach of a couple of beautiful small stone beaches which in May were very quite, had one of them to ourselves - wonderful!

To get the best out of Kefalonia you need to hire a car and Afroditi, the owner, can arrange this for you (pick up and drop off at the apartments or airport) at very reasonable rates.

Afroditi goes out of her way to ensure you have everything you need and is on site to advise on restaurants, car hire, places to visit etc etc.

Would happily stay here again.

We stayed for one week at Greka Ionian situated in the pretty fishing village of Agia Efimia.
The apartments are in a great location just around the corner from the shops and tavernas. Our suite had a brilliant view of the pool and also the sea from our balcony. The apartment was absolutely IMMACULATE and kept this way EVERY SINGLE DAY; it was cleaned with fresh towels and bedding when we arrived back each day after we'd been out exploring the island. I understand the complex is four years old but does not seem it at all. The highest levels of care are obvious. We had everything we needed within the apartment facility/utensil wise this place is the absolute best of the best in the whole of Greece. I would challenge anyone to find better with the same facilities and cleanliness at the same price!!

The owner, Afroditi, is one of a kind. We exchanged emails before our stay where she kindly arranged our transportation from the airport. During our entire stay there was not one thing that was too much trouble; she arranged a car for us, drew directions on our map, gave great advice on what to see, where to eat. She is the kindest most genuine person and the best host. She made our stay a memorable one!

Do not hesitate to book up you will not regret it. We can't wait to go back!

Stayed for a few days in October, and it was fabulous.

Lovely apartment that you could not fault. The owner, Aphrodite, was wonderfully helpful, directing us to places that we would not have discovered otherwise.

Agia Efimia is a great place to stay, central for the island so nowhere is too far away, sufficient bars and restaurants, but still retains the sense of being a real place and not just a tourist resort.

We last visited Aghia Effimia 9 years ago and always vowed to go back.
Well we finally managed it and could not have found anywhere better to stay. The apartment was fantastic. Lovely furnishings, fully equipped with a full cooker should you need it , pure white cotton sheets and beautiful thick white towels and bathrobes. And they were cleaned to a really high standard every day.
The bathroom was lovely and even had a power shower. We had a double balcony with a sea view.
The pool area was well kept and clean but we were amazed to be the only ones using it all week. Also very efficient free Wi Fi.
Aghia Effimia has spread out a little since our last visit but still retains the village feel and has some excellent bars and restaurants where you can just chill with a glass of wine ( or two ! ) and watch the world go by and the beautiful sunsets.
The village still is a busy yachting stop and it's great watching them all come and go.
And last but not least, a big big thank you to Afroditi for all her help, care and advice. She is amazing.
We do hope to return and will not leave it as long next time.
