We arrived on 26th August 2013. We'd booked a taxi from the airport via the hotel at €50. Taxi driver could not speak English but was a safe driver. Took about an hour. Received an extremely warm welcome from the lovely receptionist and George took our cases up to our room - up numerous steps and part way in the lift. We were prepared for the steps from previous reviews but they did reduce the number of times we might have gone back to the room during the day - for books, dry clothes etc. as we were on level 3 in Room 306. Beautiful room. Quality furniture. The air conditioning was amazing. The ensuite had a shower over the bath but no screen so we took baths instead, which was no problem as it was nice to relax in the bath before getting ready for a trip into the village to the local tavernas for dinner. We stayed b&b and the breakfasts were plentiful, hot and i have no idea how the lovely lady managed to so stealthily top up the dishes because there were never any empty plates. Due to the time of year it was wasp season and anywhere there was food or drink the place was swarming and we accidentally sat in the flight path in the dining room for breakfast on the first day - My husband thinks that it was cbt (cognitive behavioural therapy) for my wasp phobia as i'm nowhere near as jumpy as I was when bombarded and luckily we avoided being stung. We found a local taverna, To Perasma cooked extremely good food, lots of variety, had brilliant friendly staff and gave complimentary cake and liqueurs after every meal. We did a boat trip on the Romantika to the Isle of Itheka. Had got a little windy and at gale force 6 we were unable to dock for lunch but found a calmer village in which to stop. Also hired a car to visit Melissani lake cave - (well worth the €7 per person for the little boat trip in the most beautiful body of water you can imagine). Then drove to the viewpoint for Myrtos beach - breathtaking - and on to Fiskardo - sat on the waterfront with a beer and watched the locals fishing. I can't leave without mentioning Kassi who worked daytimes on reception. Extremely helpful. Very friendly and just all round amazing. Overall I'd rate our experience at the hotel and in Kefalonia as 9/10 - and if we'd gone out of wasp season I am sure I would rate it 10/10. Brilliant.

Room Tip: The main pool is plenty big enough to just float around and cool down or to actually get some daily exercise. The villa pools are much smaller so you can't actually swim much in them. The main pool is quiet, clean and you never have problems finding a sun bed and some shade.

We had booked a junior suite and were very surprised to be shown to a double room with small balcony. We asked if a villa with pool were available and after a half hour wait were told we could have one for five nights at an extra 60 euros per night and were shown to a smaller room opposite reception, which had its own pool and terrace with furniture. It was a shame that the broken chairs hadn't been removed. The views however were stunning. The washbasin was cracked and the shower door came off the runners twice, trapping me inside, but no-one was interested. The pool umbrella broke on our first full day (Friday) and it took until Sunday night to get it replaced. There was no shade at all on our terrace. We were on half board and the dinner portions were huge. I had to ask for half size! The food at both dinner and breakfast was good. When we moved back to a suite (bedroom) on the Tuesday, we had a corner bath, which was minute, and meant you had to sit with your knees under your chin. There were two outdoor lifts to get down to Reception level and one had clearly been out of order for several months. Neither did the lift to the dining room work either. The toiletries were only replenished once during our stay and that was when I complained. The views and the tranquility were fabulous, the staff friendly, but the hotel and grounds were very tired. Furthermore the spa and beauty treatments were non-existent. There was a tiny pebble beach across the road from the hotel, down yet more steps, but no parasols and/or loungers.

Stayed here for two weeks in July with my son whilst recovering from knee surgery. It was perfect.
Arrived on crutches knowing that there were loads of steps! My theory was that the hotel had everything and if I didn't want to go up and down I would have a fabulous view from the balcony and room service. The view was fabulous indeed! To watch boats on the med whilst drinking coffee in bed first thing in the morning was a real treat indeed!

Twin beds and loads of space even for a mum and 20 year old son. Fantastic wet room, decent flush loo, plenty of hot water, air con included, tea/coffee and toiletries replenished daily as were the large fluffy towels.

In practice the steps were good excercise and most evenings we walked into the village to sample the local tavernas. Try a range, they all have their individual charming quirks.

The food in the hotel restaurant was excellent and reasonably priced - what made it more expensive than local Tavernas was drinking wine as they didn't serve local wine by the carafe, only wine by the bottle. Even so, it wasn't expensive considering the convenience of eating in the hotel, and the wine was very good.

The pool area is lovely, and the 'Beer o'clock meze' was always tasty, keeping us going till dinner time.

Pool bar menu appeared quite limited until we learnt that you can eat from the full restaurant menu if you sit and eat at one of the lovely shady tables so we did that a number of times. The 1.5l bottles of water from the bar were as cheap as the local supermarket and you didn't have to carry it....don't assume it's expensive because it's a hotel, and anyway, we pay so little to stay there for what we get, why not support their business? My guess is the busier the pool bar and restaurant the better it will get....

The breakfast buffet was excellent. OK, it was the same every day, but you could find something different to eat on a daily basis as it covered everything you can think of from French pastries thorugh to rice pudding! For me, honey, yoghurt, fresh fruit...yummmmm.

My son found everything he needed to work out in the gym, so no probs there,.

The staff and owners were all delightful, the room cleaned daily to a high standard and nothing was too much trouble for anyone. We were sooooo well looked after I couldn't begin to tell you .... Efkharisto para poli.

Only slight downside was the arrival of bed bagging Brits leaving towels on beds they wouldn't use till mid morning who would then go off for a three hour lunch leaving their towels on the beds under the brollies while others baked in full sun - during the first week folk just came and went without the 'bed bagging' nonsense and there was always a bed and shade when you wanted it........

Tip - learn to say a few words of Greek before you arrive, however bad your accent the staff will appreciate your efforts.

You don't get views like this at sea level!

If you're a serial complainer you will find things to complain about with the Bay Palace. Yes there are stairs (do your homework), the jacuzzi isn't working (who wants an indoor jacuzzi with a fantastic pool and sea on your doorstep), one step has a broken piece, dinner at the hotel - go B&B and keep the local bars & tavernas alive, and the bathroom can be a wet room due to the shower screen but it dries in minutes.

I agree it's not quite 5 star but then again we weren't paying 5 star prices. At £1300 for the standard twin room B&B for 2 weeks in the high season, this hotel is excellent value.

It has more character than most 4/5 star block terraced hotels and has a very private feel due to the smaller number of rooms/apartments in the complex.
It's a place to relax and soak up a bit of chilled out Greek philosophy on life.
We used the wee private pebble beach in front of the hotel morning/afternoon and the hotel pool from 4 onwards - still warm sun till 7pm. The pool was large, clean, and not busy, and we got free snack food every day after buying a beer. Nice touch.
The pool's quiet and there's plenty of sun loungers morning and afternoon.
Breakfast was great, mixing British and Greek favourites, plus lots of healthy options.
We found the staff very cheerful, friendly, and helpful, and George is especially proud of the hotel having been there from the beginning.
The hotel is only 3 years old and I'm sure will develop to achieve that final star, but we had a fantastic stay just the way it is. Already reccommending it to friends.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 310 which was unique as it was a detached standard room. It felt more private as no adjoining walls to other rooms.

The Kefalonia Bay Palace is the most perfect Honeymoon Destination. We arrived on the 2nd July 2013 and were collected from the Airport by the Hotel. The taxi driver was Demetrius, took us along the scenic route, along the coast line and by Myrtos Beach to the hotel. Demetrius was brilliant, very informative and gave a great first impression of the people in Kefalonia.

We arrived and the hotel and we met by very friendly and professional staff. We had our bags taken to our room by the porter and there was wine and a fresh selection of fruit waiting for us in our room. The hotel is located on a hillside and the villas are terraced. The road to the hotel is steep, should you have any difficulty with mobility you would find it very difficult without a car.

We stayed in villa 103 Artemis with a private infinity pool. The room was clean and spacious with a fridge and flat screen tv. The bathroom was adequate with a power spa shower. The room was cleaned daily by the maid to a high standard, with fresh linen and towels daily.
The pool and patio area was clean and very spacious and included two sun loungers with a parasol, a covered swinging bench and table and chairs. The view from the pool and patio is simply stunning, we spent a lot of time admiring the yachts and watching the sea, it was mesmerizing.

We were on a B&B basis with breakfast being served until 11. Breakfast was fresh and there was a good choice of continental and cooked foods. We did not eat any other meals in the hotel. At night time it was very quiet, due to the location of the hotel and no evening discos or cabaret. This hotel was more than what we had imagined and well worth the 220eur per night a perfect Honeymoon Destination.

The main town, Agia Efima is located 500m along the road, walking in down hill is easy but the walk back, in the heat can be difficult along the steep entry to the hotel. The town has plenty of cafe's and restaurants, supermarkets and gift shops. The restaurants are well priced with a great selection of local fresh food and fairly priced. Our favorite restaurant was located next to the Kefalonia bay palace, Paradise Taverna. The food was beautiful with an amazing selection, very authentic food and the staff were brilliant.

We also hired a motor boat from the Yellow Boats company in the harbor. You receive a 15 min tuition and its costs about 85 euros including petrol from 9am to 5.30pm. You can visit some amazing beaches along the coast that are only reachable by boat. The sea was beautiful and clean and crystal clear, great snorkeling with a surprisingly good variety of fish. We also visited Mrytos beach, highly rated, beautiful water and sand / pebble beach. Demetrius dropped us off and picked us up for a very good rate.

Overall this was a perfect honeymoon, great hotel, beautiful views, amazing location and stunning surroundings. We will certainly return to Kefalonia and we would certainly re-book with the Kefalonia Beach Hotel.
