“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2011

We stayed here for two nights in a spacious room. Very few rooms have views.
The room is decorated in a shabby chic style. Cheap furniture whitewashed.
The room was very clean and had a large tub.

Breakfast buffet was great.
Roast Beef dinner was two slices of shaved beef.
The duck was excellent. The pool was also quite nice.

The ride up to the hotel and back is like a roller coaster ride,
knuckle white hang on by your teeth.
Some of the restaurants and shops close early.
It is definitely expensive and touristy.

This was the only hotel we stayed at that we could not use our universal adapter.

We stayed at Capri Palace last spring for what was supposed to be 4 days of a dreamlike trip. As soon as we approached the hotel, we immediately realized it was not gonna be the case. The small plaza in front of the hotel was crowded with inelegant tourists and cheap boutiques and crappy snack-bars. But the real surprise came just after, at the hotel reception. Reception? It was actually more like a private party where we didn't feel welcome at all. On the contrary, we felt like we were bothering the senior receptionist. Eventually, someone agreed to accompany us to our room. And when the door opened, we could not believe our eyes. It looked like a cheap charter-like hotel club room. Dirty floor, cheap and far away sea-view (which we had actually booked), it was more like a view over the badly painted roof of the restaurant and heating system. The only thing they do really well in this hotel is charging you for every single step you take. Never again. It is a pretentious place with no charm whatsoever. At least the bar had a large selection of cocktails (very expensive, tough) to help us go through our stay.

Room Tip: There is no best room in this hotel. They are all BAD.

Capri Palace hotel was spectacular. They do everything in their power to establish it as a 5 star hotel. There are about 10 staff members milling around in suits all the time. The room was very nice and large with a view of the garden. The grounds are impeccable. We did not eat in their onsite Michelin rated restaurant but I can say the prices were frightening (45 Euros for pasta?). Luckily breakfast was included and it was phenomenal so we got to see the restaurant that way.

They really should have a porter available where cabs drop you off on the main square because you will have to lug your suitcases up a very long flight of stairs unless you've called in advance to arrange for a porter.

We had our wedding in Capri. We stayed at Capri Palace alongside most of our guests for 10 days, so we got to know the property very well, including most of their staff.
The property is very beautiful and designed in a refined semi classical style full of art. The rooms are very tasteful, although not spacious, most of the rooms had their own small private garden with sun beds which was nice.

My main issues with the hotel was the service. We did extensive research of possible venues and thought Capri Palace to be the most beautiful of what we found online so we went ahead with the booking. An added plus was that an in-house wedding planner was included in the fee, which we thought would be extremely helpful to assist us and our guests. They advertise this included service several places. Unfortunately, we would soon regret having this service as Capri Palace's wedding planner service was not at all what we thought it would be. They were so slow in responding to almost all our mails (which they weren't prior to signing the contract). We could never get direct responses to our answers and constantly had to follow -up with numerous e-mails and long distance phone calls to get answers. When we asked for a list of vendors to choose from such as photographers and florists, we were told that they were the only ones to choose from! We felt forced into choosing their vendors which was strange and it didn't feel like we had the choice of doing what WE wanted to do, but what THEY wanted us to do, which makes me feel that this was all based on commissions.

It seemed like everybody was trying to make money via commissions driving the final price really high. Eg. when, for a part of one of the day-activities, we wanted a couple of boats, we later found out that the hotel had secured us a price almost double up compared to what anyone off the street could get the service for. As Americans we are used to leaving a tip. In this case we gave the boatman a 20% tip after the trip. No wonder he was so happy. Because our 20% tip was based on what turned out to be an inflated price for the boat, which earning him a 40% tip!!

If you are expecting wedding planning services on a professional international level or as one might be used to in the US, I must make future couples aware of NOT using Capri Palace in-house wedding planning services. Even though we had a lovely wedding anyways, I really wish someone could have warned me or I could have used the services of an outside wedding planner which we had considered but thought might not be necessary.
The service in general at Capri Palace was sometimes good and sometimes bad. It seemed to us that the service was very moody. Sometimes the service was excellent in the bar (the bar is almost always empty which is a bit strange as it's really beautiful) and other days absolutely lacking, where you had to search for service on your own.
I felt the same shaky service in the reception as well, which depending on whom was working that day, could be rude or extremely nice and helpful.

As I said before, the design and the rooms are beautiful. The area around the hotel is filled/packed though with day tourists during the day with big tourist busses. They write on the website that the area surrounding the hotel is a tranquil area in a lesser spoilt area of Capri, I wouldn't say that is exactly true!!! It is just as busy during the day as in Capri center. The area right around the hotel is horribly touristy also (not in a good way)!
I guess you could say that you could be very lucky with a good experience or exactly the opposite at his hotel. It can go either way. I just wanted to warn any future couples to be aware of this wishy-washy experience for future weddings at Capri Palace and NOT to use their in house planning services for weddings or events. I would definitely consider using a professional wedding planner separate from this hotel, if I had to get married at this hotel or their restaurants or other properties.

Very touristy location. It's also not on the water, so the views are limited. Rooms are average. The beach club that they just purchased allows access to a beach, but agin it is very touristy and overrated. Caesar Augustus is the best on Anacapri, but their pool isn't much better. One has to go to other swimming holes to have access to the sea. The restaurant is insanely expensive.

We decided to spend our first wedding anniversary at the Capri Palace, having celebrated our wedding their the previous year, so very nostalgic going back. The stay was fantastic. We were upgraded to a suite with our own private pool and lounge area. We could not fault a thing. The service, breakfast brilliant, but have to say the service which was what blew us away.

Travelled to Capri during my pregnancy and found this hotel to be quite lovely -- friendly staff, amazing art pieces displayed throughout the hotel, lovely breakfast, and great bar/lounge area. (Don't remember much about the room b/c it's been too long, but I think it was above average in cleanliness and decor) What I wasn't so thrilled with was the location -- 10-15 min taxi ride from downtown and no good view of the water. Our friends stayed at J.K Palace, which had a fantastic view. All in all, though, our stay was quite relaxing and fun.
