“Hotel Needs Major Work & Old Beds, Old Everything”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

Our Capri stay was wonderful, natural beauty of the island, great food and people, our hotel was not. Although it has a great location and probably once was a beautiful structure, the hotel is in dire need of a face lift. Our bed was so bad you could feel the old springs in the mattress and although it was supposed to be a queen it was two beds pushed together that were uneven and did not meet equally. Our room smelled terribly of moth baths and the under the bed it looked like it was not dusted in a while. Bathrooms were clean. New doors to the little outside sitting area were not finished so you had left open walls meeting the frame on the doors, not a 4 star hotel level in our eyes. The curtains were hanging unevenly so we could not even close them. In fact my wife and I still cannot believe this place has stars at all (maybe because of its location, pool and shuttle -which was never available anyway). A nice big pool, but the lounge area looked like a road side picnic area, with uncut grass, mismatched bamboo umbrellas and you have to pay for your chair and towels even if you are guests-we never heard of this in any hotel and we travel a lot. Old plastic chairs surround the pool area, a mis match of plastic tablecloths and really bad food from the cafe-again very disappointing. It is sad that such a beautiful building has been left uncared for. Inside the hotel it is dark with mismatched furniture, the sofa was so dirty I could not even sit down and when we told the front desk about our moldy room, they just shrugged it off. Do not go by the photos on the website, they do not represent the rooms at all. We are not fussy travelers, however this was an absolute bad experience and very misleading 4 star category. Shop around before booking on Capri.

We chose San Michele because it was where friends of ours stayed two years ago. They told us about the fantastic views of the sea and Italian coast and we were not disappointed. It was all that and more. It is not your big modern hotel but then that was not what we went to Italy to find. This family run hotel was very cordial and professional. Their restaurant's menue offered a variety of authentic dishes that were always prepared well and were delicious. The reception staff was very helpful with all our questions and often suggested things for us to see on the island. One evening, we enjoyed spending time in their nightclub, where we were entertained by a fabulous guitarist. The center of Anacapri is only a short walk away and gave us the opportunity to explore life on this beautiful island. We couldn't thank our friends enough when we returned and plan to pass on our recommendation to others.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a view, for sure although rooms facing the pool are very good also.

My Husband and I have just returned from a stay in this hotel in AnaCapri.
Having got married in AnaCapri 7 years ago, this Island holds a very special place in our hearts.
The hotel San Michelle is a traditional, authentic, charming, family run hotel ( 3 generations)hotel.
Abundant with period pieces of art and furniture and full of character in a typical Italian style with breath taking views across the Bay of Naples. Breakfast was included in the price and the restaurant has huge windows so the stunning views of the bay can be enjoyed especially if you take a window table.
Our junior suite was very spacious with a lot of windows to let in all the light but there were also black out blinds for when you wanted to sleep.
The bathroom was decorated in a traditional Italian style with beautiful colourful Italian ceramic tiles, gold fittings in places and a large bath with huge shower head and a handheld shower head also. The water pressure was excellent ( important to us)
There is a huge swimming pool in the lovely gardens with a restaurant by the pool. The restaurant served us some of
the best meals we have ever
had in any hotel. We thoroughly recommend that you try out the pool side restaurant. There is plenty of choice available and whether it's simple pasta or local freshly caught fish or just a large bowl of salad, all the meals are absolutely delicious and good value for money. My husband recommends the King prawns salad with the special 'Claudio' secret recipe pink sauce. The best we've ever had!
Even if you're staying somewhere else, you can still lunch here.
There is a bar called Laterna Verde in the evening where you can sit on the terrace overlooking the Bay or if you enjoy live music and dancing they have occasional live singers/bands inside. The regular barman Massimo is always there with a friendly smile and greeting.
To sum up, if you like a more authentic traditional family run Italian style hotel then this is it.

This hotel has beautiful views! Free breakfast that was included was nice. This is more of a classic hotel, which has its own type of charm. Don't expect a modern hotel. It is very close to Villa San Michele and it's not a far walk to the town of Anacapri. In my opinion, Anacapri is much more authentic than the town of Capri. If you're looking to travel around the island, there is a bus stop nearby (EUR 1.80 to get to Capri or to Marina Grande). You can also take a taxi, but this will be more expensive (minimum EUR 20 to get to Capri).

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side of the hotel have the best views.

My husband and I spent the last 4 days of our honeymoon at Hotel San Michele. It was an absolutely gorgeous hotel room with a balcony that overlooked the coastline. Absolutely breathtaking and stunning views from our balcony! The service was nice. The hotel had several weddings and other big events also planned at the same time so the grounds were noisy and our hallway was quite loud at times. The pool was refreshing and the pina coladas were delicious! My husband says it was his favorite part of the trip!

Room Tip: Ask for the large balconies with a view!!!!

A beautiful hotel with a scenic views. A spacious and comfortable room. An attentive and helpful staff. Some regrets: that we should walk through the restaurant to go to our room and a "minima" equipment (you would expect to have a coffee machine, tissues...).

My husband and I went for our 10th wedding anniversary and stayed at Hotel San Michelle for a week, and boy do I wish it was longer.
The hotel is situated on the gateway to Anacapri and has the most amazing views. It is ideally located for the bus back down to Capri which is 1min walk from the hotel and 5mins walk from the centre of Anacapri. In our view it was the best of both worlds. We has the superior deluxe room which was at the top of the island with the most imposing arched window with views so breathtaking. We also had a private terrace with sun beds. The room was clean and cleaned every day.
Breakfast was plentiful, again with the most amazing views over the coast. The pool is open from 9-6pm and has a great bar serving lovely Italian food and any drink you could want. The staff are very attentive and will bring you your food to your sun bed if you wish. The pool is large and clean and warm.
I would say if you want to stay in Anacapri, stay here, but pay extra for a room with sea view, it made our holiday. Missing it already
