It's a twenty minute ferry ride from St.Peter Port which costs £6 per adult and once on the island you step into paradise. It's an easy level walk from the harbour around to Shell Bay which on a hot sunny day could rival anywhere in the world. There is a small kiosk selling drinks and hot and cold food but apart from that the beach is unspoilt. The sand is almost white and fine and I would imagine a good bathing beach but on this occasion I only paddled. If you are looking for peace and solitude Herm is the place to go, the centre of the island is uninhibited moorland awash with wild flowers and birdsong. The coastal path from Shell Beach is an easy walk with fantastic views of neighbouring islands but it is steep in a couple of places. Back at the harbour there are a couple of places to eat and drink plus two gift shops and the hotel, the last ferry to Guernsey leaves at 5.30pm. Overall a wonderful day out away from crowds and a chance to relax in lovely surroundings. Everyone we met on the island was very friendly and the facilities very clean.
