Reviewed 31 March 2014

Stayed just one night in the Terracotta Room.
The hotel was in a change over period so the front was closed. No staff present however spoke to the Manager who was very helpful.
The room itself was very clean, the bed very comfortable.
Had a great night sleep here.
Small TV mounted on the wall with a DVD player.
A table and two chairs in the corner which was useful. Good only for two people but I travel alone so no problem.
Toaster etc and fridge with the all basics in the room.
Bathroom has a great shower and good quality shampoo. Towels of reasonable quality too
Only had to wait a few minutes for the water to warm up which was OK.
The price I paid was very reasonable. The reason I like it is because its quiet and just a km out of town. If you want a good basic modern room at a reasonable rate go no further. Ticks all the boxes.

Room Tip: Terracotta room is excellent, parking at the front door of the room Is easy.

Spent two nights here on two business trips in October.
Found it so really comfortable, clean, really well appointed. It was a pleasure to stay.
Went across to the local market on Sat before leaving, glad I did.
Had a great sleep as it was so quiet.

We needed a place to stay for one night in Castlemaine, and found this place to be just perfect. We stayed in the "Shiraz" room, which I believe is one of the better rooms. Beautifully fitted out, with a good bathroom. Bed was comfy too.

It's not in the centre of Castlemaine, but if you have a car, it's very convenient. Would highly recommend.

One note, however - I did notice that the premises have recently been sold, so there may be a change in management at some stage soon?

We had booked and prepaid online, so rocked up expecting to be greeted. Not only was the way to reception poorly signposted, when we finally found it all was closed and dark. The note on the door advised us to call one of two numbers - blithely assuming that we had a mobile phone (it was fortunate that we did, because we didn't see a public telephone anywhere). The first number had an answering machine, which directed us to a mobile number, but it was inaudible, So we tried calling the second number - which had been disconnected! After 5 more calls to the answering machine, we finally deciphered the number to call. We were directed to a room with the key in the door. I asked what time the bistro would be open, as the motel was much further out of town than I had been led to expect. No, it's closed.
The front of the motel didn't resemble my memory of the online pics, and the parking space is very cramped, making it difficult to get our stuff from the car without risking damage to neighbouring vehicles. Difficult, but we managed. It also requires very good reversing skills - one cannot turn the car in the car park.
The room was okay, if small, but the doona was not big enough - while it covered the double bed, it did not adequately cover two people in the bed. We needed the additional blanket provided to cover the gap on one side of the bed.
I would not recommend this establishment.

Booked a studio unit online with breakfast included for a reasonable price. Arrived early to find the location further out of town than I'd have liked and the surrounding area looked a bit scruffy. Unfortunately the owner was absent due to an emergency but we finally gained entry.
Our end unit was compact but well thought out, with a small fridge and microwave, great bathroom and topnotch toiletries. Tiny outdoor patio backing onto a lane with the Castlemaine gold diggings opposite. Parking at the front door.
Would have loved to have stayed when the bistro was open and for the Saturday Wesley Hill Market held opposite. As it was we took our main meal in Catlemaine at lunchtime because of the limited cooking facilities and lack of nearby eateries.

I stayed here for 3 nights with my daughter in Nov 12 while my hubby and son were competing in a sporting event in Maryborough. Couldn't ask for more for the price. We had the room at the very far end and it was spotlessly cleaned, sheets were changed daily and always smelt very fresh. Each morning we woke to a gorgeous breakfast waiting for us in the fridge, even the jam was homemade, delightful. We will be back again this year as we were so impressed.
