Lovely French antique furniture in modern room; parking and a couple of outdoor areas to relax. Quiet. We ate at the bistro for dinner and lunch, and had breakfast included with the booking. All very good. Accommodating staff were patient with our small group. Well situated close to shops and galleries.

Cater well for GF; included both soy and cow milk in room fridge.

I wanted to take my mum somewhere relaxing and beautiful for her birthday and a couple of nights at this beautiful boutique hotel was perfect for us. Our room and the gardens around it were peaceful and gorgeous, the breakfasts were heavenly and the owners were kind, helpful and welcoming. It was very clear that a great deal of love and attention had gone into the smallest of details. I could not recommend the Empyre more highly and look forward to returning very soon.

We ate here on a Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. It is a lovely bright space that retains a number of historic features. The menu was difficult to choose from because everything sounded so good. I was very happy with everything I chose. Unfortunately, my partner was disappointed with the snapper dish he chose for main; the accompanying was far too iverwhelming for the fish and the accompanying mussels and prawns. Highlights were the tasters served between courses, and menu items such as the angus eye fillet, quail San choy bow, blood orange sorbet and the pear baba. Service was always present but never in our faces. Would happily travel to Castlemaine to eat here again.

The rooms are stunning but it is really the owners who make Empyre so amazing. They quickly took on board my allergies and rearranged the menu so I could enjoy the amazing meals on offer.

Read an article in the Melbourne Age newspaper about the Empyre being one of the top 7 luxury hotels in Victoria and booked it on that basis for my wifes birthday - they were right. The attention to detail in the renovation is amazing and the beds and so comfortable you want to take the mattresses home with you. We stayed on a weekend 2 night dinner accom and breakfast deal in one of the balcony rooms.
We loved it and will return soon - we also ate in the restaurant in the dinning room and the food and service did not let this place down. It was as good as if not better than a lot of good restaurants that we have eaten in in Melbourne they found out it was her birthday and even put a candle in her dessert - we were made to feel very special on what was a busy night in the restaurant. Castlemaine is a really quaint country town and we loved our weekend.
