It has unique flora, beautiful scenery and the whale watching (in season) from the viewing platforms at Point Anne is special.

Recently we camped for 8 days in the magnificent Fitzgerald River National Park.
This was my second visit in 8 years and the wildflowers were fantastic in their diversity and abundance.
We were at the end of the whale season and only saw one Southern Right whale, however others in the camp were there a month earlier when there were an estimated 30 whales and calves off Point Ann.
Their blowing and flapping of flukes were heard all day and night and by all reports the experience was fantastic.
The Department of Environment and Conservation are currently constructing a 30 km coastal walk track from Point Ann to beyond Point Charles which when completed will be a great walk to experience, especially in August/September when both the whales and the flowers will be in abundance.
This is a get back to nature experience and would suit keen walkers, amateur and professional botanists and those who enjoy camping in the wilderness.
Facilities are basic with long drop toilets and basic camp sites.
Free gas barbecues are available and camping fees are very reasonable.
Highly recommended as an escape into nature.
Bring your own water and all food and camping requirements

For a naturalist this is a special place. Point Ann is wild and good for whale watching; the flora is amazing. Good gravel roads.

We spent four days in the Fitzgerald River national park, staying at Quaalup Homestead, in a rented caravan. Fantastic experience - the range and variety of wildflowers was extraordinary, a visit to Point Anne to watch about 8 Southern Right whales calving a mere fifty metres off shore was fantastic, and to hear the whalesong over the water breathtaking.

The homestead caravan park was an experience - no generators allowed so needed to be completely self sufficient for power. It's a long way to travel ( about 7 - 8 hours ) but worth it.

The down side - Five Star Caravan Hire was not good on the return - complained about non existent 'faults' and refused to refund us for the $10 battery we had to buy for the smoke detector that started constantly beeping in the middle of the night.

We camped at St Mary's Bay DEC campground near Point Ann. I cannot imagine a more secluded, delightful place that is accessible by 2wd. Few people had ventured so far from civilisation and we often had the talcum powder beach to ourselves. A family of roos joined us for dinner one night, and the sight of the full moon rising across the ocean from behind the distant mountains made you glad to be part of the universe. Even saw the rabbit-proof fence.
